- Sometimes we take risks.
This piece of rough opal is a broken rough opal Nobby that has a very large and/or thick color bar, which makes me think outside the box and go for two gems instead of one. I am taking a risk with this piece because I can't see through it and it could be full of potch, but hey, life is too short to always play it safe. So, I'm going in!

AMAZING! As I sit in the break room at work. I started up this video and I had the volume a little loud and thought I was being bothersome to my co-workers so I turned it down a little bit. Mind you I'm here at work an hour early so I can get something in my stomach that starts at 9pm lol. A quarter way through the video I hear a voice behind me " hey man, can you turn that up a bit? " lol I turn around and all the guys have collected at the table directly behind me 😂 and they're all watching you cut and polish these amazing stones ❤. Thank you for sharing this journey of two amazing gems coming to life ❤. Lol btw, I work at one of the major soda pop companies out there. And to see a bunch of dude's sharing in my geek out session was awesome 😊🫶🏻
Hey James, that's so cool!
Thanks for watching and sharing what we love to do with your work crew!
That's so cool!! Thanks for sharing. Justin has a special way of putting a smile on people's faces.
@@blackopaldirect Hey Justin,
Missing Tamika and some of your colab videos. :(
❤
I love this💜
Episode after episode, month/year after month/year, you give us wings. Please, please don't ever retire Maestro!!!
Nothing is forever but ill try
😮 Wow! That was my favorite video since you uncovered that script pattern stone that you gave away a while back! When you revealed that cut, my heart skipped a beat! What a brilliant pair! Someone is going to be really lucky to own those! Spectacular! One of my favorite opals I have ever seen you cut. 👏
Agreed! I still dream of that script pattern stone, and now this exquisite pair join my imaginary opal collection 💖
I don't know how are you able to sell them after... It seems like that part is even harder after all the emotional rollercoaster of cutting it... So beautiful, and how fun video of the color flashes... You bring so much joy and positivity with your videos. Thank you! ❤
Thank you
No guts, no glory! What a beautiful pair! So glad you made them pair shaped. ❤️BOD
Thank you so much!
Yes. It’s a pear-shaped pair!
OH WOW! They look like butterfly wings!
Haven't visited your channel for a long time. What a transformation from a backyard operation to a professional set up with editing, production and great music. You are way on the way to 1 million subscribers. Congrats
Awesome, thank you!
The beauty in these 2 twinsies made me cry!
When you did that reveal, I literally said “whooa” that literally looks like something from out of space!
If there is one thing that I've learned from watching you, Justin, it is that every opal is a gamble. Even the most straightforward looking stone could turn out tragic. As you are fond of saying: "You just never know." You're like the Bob Ross of Black Opal. 😉 Only you're WAY funnier!
You have built up an intuitive knowledge. That is apparent. Thank you for sharing this with us.
God bless you and all there at Black Opal Dire🎉ct.
I’m so happy you didn’t try to make ovals! These look fantastic!
Thank you
@@blackopaldirect Sorry to say this but given the things I've seen on the internet I would recommend not using the word "woke" as it tends to be associated with left-wing extremists here in the US and possibly elsewhere, I'm not sure. I encourage you to do your own research about this since my conclusion may be skewed.
@@engineer84-w8x describing someone as 'woke' means that they are aware and sensitive to the prejudices (based on race, gender, disability, sexual orientation etc) that others face. So in essence, someone who is 'woke' is empathetic - they can put mentally 'walk in someone else's shoes', and they care about injustices that affect others but not themselves. The fact that anyone would consider that being empathetic and alert to injustice makes a person a 'left-wing extremist' is truly mindblowing and very sad to me. It is an indictment on the heartlessness of the social circle that they are in. I do commend you though for your self-awareness that your conclusion may be skewed. Perhaps mine is skewed, too? All I can say is that from my perspective outside of the United States (but as someone who has lived in the US in the past), the current polarisation in American society is truly frightening.
That’s what I was worried about too! 😂
@@lisacrandall409 Yes, the American populace is being polarized, the word "woke" is, as far as I can tell, being used by genuine extremists in multiple industries to spread their derogatory agendas, and right in the middle of a cost of living crisis where many people simply cannot afford homes due to convoluted, systemic issues beyond what the average joe can comprehend, and I'm stuck in the middle of it all, unable to get out of it or do anything about it due to the lack of influence I have. I can also understand why you would be concerned about this from an outside perspective because 1, the US has a very large military and 2, a significant portion of the world economy goes through and takes place here, so if either the US goes to war, Wall Street crashes, or both, it's bad news for everyone on this godforsaken blue pebble.
I have seen you cut and polish a lot of pairs, but this one is fenomenal!! A beautiful black opal pair. Thank you Justin for sharing with us your hard work. We really appreciate your expertise and your time!
Well there ya go , you and Mother Nature giving us all something so beautiful and very special. Thank you for sharing this.
I like the opal roughing videos and the opal presentations. Very relaxing watching the beauty of the stones revealing their secrets. ;-)
Glad you like them!
If it wasn't such a risk , it wouldn't be so rewarding .
Absolutely stunning Justin 👊
Thank you for sharing the photo. Such a handsome family! Stunning opal.
You are so kind
Justin...
Yesterday was father's day here in the states. So Happy Father's Day to you!! You're a good son and a great dad. You're dad would no doubt be very proud of you.
Awesome video!! A perfect pair. I watched the video on your gems channel earlier today. I love the stones that are dark and mysterious like that.
Have a great week. See ya, bye.
Randy in Des Moines. 👍
Thank you! You too! you are one of the spoilers too haha don't watch the other channel 🤣
Wow!! What a beautiful pair of opals! I think these may be some of my favourite from you! Absolutely stunning 😍
Happy fathers day! That's a gem cut i'll never forget.
Thank you
They turned out amazing!!! You are a very gifted storyteller. Thank you Justin, please don't ever stop!!! You bring so much joy to people. ❤ Thank you😊
To me, they are the most beautiful opals I have ever seen.
Beautiful pair! One of my favorite sports quotes is 'the better you are the luckier you get'. I think it applies with this risky cut. Well done Justin! : )
Beautiful pair, two individual stones and you can clearly see they are twins and not to be separated! What great rewarding work you do, I love it!
They are two of the most beautiful stones I've watched you cut Justin.
✨Absolutely 🌟SPECTACULAR🌟 Thanks for sharing your amazing work!
I have seen this done with black walnut wood on hundred year old furniture. Split down the middle and open into mirrored pieces for accents. Drawer front inserts, pedestal and post trims on the edge of the box with doors between, so many ways but so beautiful. This is the first I have seen in gems like this but just as awesome for mirrored pair. Flying high there Justin!!!
Thank you Justin for the adventure and seeing some amazing Opals !
Wow, just wow! They were so beautiful. Whoever gets them is quite lucky!!!
My heart stopped for a second when you reviled it
Mine did too at the time
I don't think you meant to write "revile"?
"Revile (v) criticize in an abusive or angrily insulting manner.
"he was now reviled by the party that he had helped to lead""
The misspeller that has inhabited your keyboard is hereby "revealed", and must therefore move on to someone else that has to write something important quickly, and will be more easily embarrassed 😊
Why is it, I've got no vested interest. But I punched the air when those two were pulled apart.
Hahah I love that
Me too!!!
Absolutely STUNNING!!!
Yes!!
High Justin, short and sweet, two words.
Absolutely stunning.
Les.
Thank you
You've always had a knack for making high quality videos with music and speaking but wow you can really tell you've gotten even better over the years. This one had to take awhile shooting and editing and it really turned out great! These would look great as earrings. I don't know what the pattern would be called, but I really like it. It reminds me of my time in the military, almost like camouflage (if it was only patterned like the elusive checkerboard). 😁
Thank you
What an incredible, abstract pattern Gaia gave you in those two gorgeous gems!
A belated Happy Father’s Day, Justin. So glad that one worked out. Smashing! Nice job. Thanx fer sharing.
Such a stunning pair of gems, Justin, they look magnificent!
Thank you
Spectacular.
That's the blackest black in those opals.
Really makes the blues, greens, and purples pop.
Beautiful gems! This is one of my favourite “mindful” activities, watching what you come up with from an uncut stone from the ground to a polished masterpiece!
My goodness that was amazing! I did not expect that on the cut and the pair came out lovely! 🤘🪨⚒️
i just went "WOW" on the first look and was speechless for the rest of the video xD what a pair of stunning stones!
Absolutely stunning, Justin! Wow. 😮👏
Absolutely stunning! That was fantastic! thank you for sharing that with us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Justin does it again. An absolute stunning pair of earrings. Love you work!

They turned out absolutely fantastic. The colours are beautiful.
When you opened up the two halves aafter the slice it was like a butterfly opening its wings ❤❤❤
Wow those colors and patterns are incredible! Great job taking the risk, I’m really glad it paid off.
Thank you! Greg
Those are two amazing twins! The color is insane. I can only imagine how beautiful they are in person. 😊 Good gamble Justin!

Omg dude that was I think the scariest thing I’ve ever watched u do! So glad it turned out sooo beautiful! You’re the man! And then we’ll have Saxon ❤

I love the look of Justin cutting opals 😊
Wow…. This is a piece of art made by nature…. And you made it into 2 pieces. They are absolutely stunning!
Many many thanks
Goodness! 😮 I've seen pairs, I've never seen TWINS. This opal was so blessed to find it's way into your hands. The opportunity these beauties could be cut was laid down a loooooong time ago and it came to you to make sure the job was done right. Fantastic work, Justin!
Oh my word!! Those turned out to be absolutely gorgeous gemstones! ❤❤. Amazing!!😮😮
No wonder you love opal .... freakin' WOW! The tears of an ancient ocean! ❤❤❤❤
You have unleashed two of the most beautiful things ever seen on earth.
Wow! When you initially revealed/opened the slice, I thought the pair looked like psychedelic butterfly wings! Nice video. Nice gems. Thanks again for sharing!
The pattern on these is incredible. It reminds me of stained glass. So beautiful
Ah mate, they are awesome, they would look fabulous on my wife's ears😊. Transfixed by your craftmanship and they aura of positivity you exude. All the best, a big fan from England.

Magnificent pair of black opals, Justin! Probably your most dramatic video yet.
Thank you
Beautiful stones well done team opal ❤️❤️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️😎😎 smashed it again
When you revealed your cut it instantly made me think of a set of church stained glass windows. Cracking job mate, don't ever stop
as a person who also never gambles sometimes you know when to take one but your gamble was an educated one through years of experience so happy it paid off for you love the finished gems, also great that Saxon is following in your footsteps i'm sure with your guidance he will be as good as his dad, also i take it Saxon does the editing if so love the close up shots at the end nice touch.
WOW, like looking into the ocean depths!
Sad that I missed this happy that I saw this on replay oh my god what incredible stones 😮😮😮😮 well done Justin ❤
BEAUTIFUL just beautiful.. i love the teardrop style.👍👍👍👍👍
Glad you like it!
I am sad I will never see the happy person wearing those beautiful earrings.
I was thinking the same thing. If we could only see the persons that buy them and what they do with them.
I am sad that I never will be the person wearing them 😂 thoug I would rather make them into a bracelet or necklace pendant 😊
The gambler seems to have won this time. Absolutely amazing pair.
Absolutely beautiful.congradulations to the owner..they are wow.. thank you for posting
Our pleasure!
What a spectacular pair of stones congratulations mate. I just wanted this video to keep on going, someone is going to be extremely lucky and happy with those. Well done again
That's the most stunning pair of giant flagstone patterned ultra black opals I've seen in a long time.
Hi Justin, these are sooooooo beautiful, I absolutely love the colours and brightness, the feeling of deep ocean in them 😍 and as I am a Gemini I love that they are a perfect pair 😊 oh and from the moment you opened it I repeated "please, make them a drop shape, please..." And you did! And they are stunning ❤ greetings from Czech Republic to you and your family, including your dad, as he lives in your heart 😘
Far out those opals are outrageous. So perfect. The patterns on them make them look like a pair of butterfly wings. Mate, if I only had $8000!
I reckon your Dad was there to share it with you. When you think of him, I reckon it connects you to his spirit or energy. Sounds whack, I know, and I know a lot of people think the idea of an afterlife is a thing we made up to make ourselves feel better. But I still believe it anyway. I reckon your Dad would be pretty darn happy and proud of what you did with that stone!
I love these they are I think my ultimate favourite opals so far, I'm so happy you made a leap of faith
Beautiful work, as always and a gorgeous pair of black opals!! ❤
The colour to start with is exceptional!
Those are going to make a nice set of earrings. Well done!
Thank you! Cheers!
