Hi Ovidiu's Tech, thank you for the detail and for using the same test case and test specs for other videos! I appreciate you testing both PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 3.0! I've watched many reviewers but they rarely compare the PCIe 3.0. However, I have a question for this video, you are using the 2TB version against all 1TB versions. Are you sure the comparison is valid? The specs on the website for 1 TB and 2 TB are different.
    WD_BLACK SN850X 1 TB
    Sequential Read 7300MB/s
    Sequential Write 6300MB/s
    Random Read 8000004KB IOPS
    Random Write 11000004KB IOPS
    WD_BLACK SN850X 2 TB and 4 TB
    Sequential Read 7300MB/s
    Sequential Write 6600MB/s
    Random Read 12000004KB IOPS
    Random Write 11000004KB IOPS

Thank you for taking the time to remind me the specs. In Price vs Performance I've specified: '...I will consider the SN850X 1TB as having the same performance as the 2TB model although it may perform a bit worse'. I consider the tests results are valid and transparent. Anyway, If I had the opportunity to test the 1TB model, we would have seen weaker reading results and similar writing results.

@@OvisTech Thank you for responding, I just subscribed to your channel. I'd like to hear your opinion about my laptop. My laptop is Legion Y740, it's using 256 GB SSD PCIe 3.0. Do you think it would be a waste of money if I buy SN850X 1TB PCIe 4.0 to replace my main C drive SSD 256 GB? If not, I'd like to buy WD SN850X 1TB for my laptop.

@@ZkyMaster Assuming the CPU can handle Gen4 drives do you think is there enough cooling capacity inside? Better pick something cooler just to be safe it operates within specs without the risk of throttling.

@@OvisTech I will buy a thermal pad and stick it to the SN850X. I can't find another reason to buy an SSD other than the SN850X, seeing your test, the SN850X is very good! Even though I'll install it on a PCIe 3.0 laptop.

Can we extrapolate this to assume the 4TB would also perform better than other brands in most benchmarks?

You can safely do that, it's a reliable drive.

I could be wrong, but you tested a 2TB drive against a 1TB drive. The 2TB drives are all faster than the 1TB drives. You should have tested all 2TB drives against each other and all 1TB drives against each other.

I cannot do that due to budget constraints. However the results are still valid and can be used to inform purchasing decisions.

The 2tb ones are faster then smaller size ones, nice that you did gen 3 tests as I have x370 motherboard still
just got 5800x3d about to install so was looking for a larger ssd to replace the Toshiba xg3 1tb nvme witch does go slow under high write loads

Hello friend, how are you? I have the same ssd, but it is the WD SN850X, I use it on an Asrock x570 Steel Legend motherboard, but in the Dashboard app in the "INTERFACE SPEED" part shows
    Interface speed
    Capacity:
    Gen4 (4 Lanes)
    Connection:
    Gen4 (2 Lanes) instead of “(4 Lanes)”
I also use the SN750se, and this one shows
    Interface speed
    Capacity:
    Gen4 (4 Lanes)
    Connection:
    Gen4 (4 lanes)
It's correct as it shows in your app as well.
This sn850x I'm using is like this, and the speed also doesn't go more than 3600 mb/s
And yours that is practically the same model, is correct, (4 Lanes) and the speed almost 7000 mb/s.
    What can it be?

The manual of your motherboard states that both ports support Gen4x4 M.2 drives. SN850X running on Gen4x2 will perform like a Gen3x4 SSD. Try reversing the discs in the M.2 slots. Also update the BIOS to the latest version. All the best.

@@OvisTech Thank you for answering, my friend. I've already tested it in both slots, and the bios is already in the latest version. And ssd only works with two x2 lanes. I'm thinking of returning this SSD for an XPG S70 Blade 1TB. Do you recommend this model?

Should I remove the sticker on the ssd to improve termals?
