Props to Samsung for giving an impressive low light performance, but bigger props to HTC for finally making a very competitive camera for their flagship. The HTC 10 is the first HTC phone that got my interest. In fact, I even prefer the HTC 10 most of the time. Dynamic range seemed to be better on the HTC 10 (managed to expose the sky correctly without underexposing the foreground too much) and even colors look more natural on HTC. Low light is brighter on the S7, but I was impressed and surprised that HTC is sharper. Both are great cameras, but if I were to pick one, I'd go with HTC 10. Build quality, software, audio, and almost everything. Only thing that is better on Samsung is the display
HTC 10 wins for me, The S7 is little bit brighter and HTC gives a great effect to the background which I personally prefer. Front camera of S7 is horrible, it gives that beauty effect which I don't prefer

htc 10 auto mode in bad lighting condition or very poor, software preferes to get an higher iso instead of a longer shutter speed, that's a real shame.. in the manual controls you can "fix" it, but still a max of 2 sec shutter speed compared to the 10 of the S7 and the 30 of the G5 is a little bit poor, I really like the phone and the hardware is great, the camera software isn't just right at the moment
I think the S7 produces much less realistic pictures. Yes, it looks nicer to most people but it's oversharpened and looks like a fake HDR shot all the time. The 10 represents the scene much better I think
Very true! I shot some pictures with my sister's S7 of some dull colored books and was surprised to see a completely different color on the screen. I prefer true colors to an over saturated /over sharpened image.
Its kind of crazy how they both are excellent, yet both have some quirks, where the other device is seemingly better. The detail in the first in-car test was greater on the HTC then Samsung, but then the Samsung had better outside lighting performance and audio. Either way though I think both devices seem to be top of class and waaaay better than what we've seen in the past. Great vid!
I think after watching all the reviews on UA-cam so far & seeing the results, it's safe to say the S7 have the best smartphone camera on the market to date. Owning one & being able to test it myself I'm also impressed with my findings. I love my S7. Samsung is tough to beat. They did a great upgrade especially with the camera on the S7. as much as I want the HTC 10 to be the better of the two. the duel picture auto focus is killer. both of these cameras have strengths and weaknesses but for those that need a good point and shoot camera right out of the box than you can't go wrong either way. the GS7 does seem to do a great job. For where HTC cameras have been over the years falling just short in this is good because HTC is back in the conversation.
do remember the video and audio quality will also be compressed uploading to UA-cam, so what you see isn't actually the real quality of the video or photos. But again the HTC 10 has the best amazing hi-res microphones, I have compared the HTC 10 and S7 and the audio quality in the videos recorded by the S7 is junk compared to the HTC 10. So the fact that the S7's microphones or audio in nits videos are made out to see better in this video which just isn't true. I don't know if it's due to the compression of the HTCs hi-res audio, or what but in reality the HTC 10 records amazing audio, due to its microphones recording loss less audio.
i think both phones were doing great. Just as i thought S7 has more vibrant and brighter colors than HTC. But i really amazed about the focusing in HTC 10 even not the same as dual pixel of S7. Another great comparison video by the way.

HTC lunch a new update for the camera, and now the dinamic range is better and the low ligth too. Why they didn't use the update for the comparison. I watched other comparison and the cameras are really close. Pls repeat the test after update to see the real difference
You just can't go wrong with these 2 phones. I liked the S7's camera much better than the 10 but camera isn't my only basis on phone selections. I'd go with the 10
you're right man. although I do enjoy the tweaks on HTC audio, comparing it to s7 edge, I like the lows on s7better. and everything else, I'd go with s7e. the screen is amazing g when comparing the two side by side. images mean a lot so I use the s7e majority of time.
can you do another video after you update the software.. you using like version 1.30 the new version is like 1.56 I just just looked it up so you have to update
You know what? Kudos man, excellent review. One of the few I've seen that took the time to make sure everything was properly updated before making comparisons, you never disappoint me :D. To be honest probably the 10 would've been pretty on par just by raising exposure a bit (there's a control in auto mode close to the focus point) but that wouldn't be completely untouched on both for the full auto test; probably better irl if you care a bit about it as an user, but fair enough for the test. Both rear facing cameras are great, I like the colors a bit more on the 10, same for audio but S7 is better at handling light on day light shots and indoor shots out of the box and the front facing camera of the S7 seems to take better shots as well. As a whole package I like the HTC 10 more, specially after seeing the camera it's pretty competent this year and will take pretty decent shots flagship level, but this year Samsung has the best camera overall again, it's getting close and fast though :)
Great comparison, I love the HTC10 which is a personal choice. But S7 is best in the rear cam especially the post processing front. i wish you can capture raw images and process them both using similar software tools and then showcase them for better understanding if the problem space is hardware or software. Thumbs up for the videos...Keep it up

well u could also use the raw picture on the htc u did not use that mode. maybe the picture is better its not the same pixels i rather like the sound quality with recording that the edge dont have.
the selfies from the S7 make it look like someone photo shopped a beard on you. I think the HTC 10 selfies are much more natural and accurate, as the S7's selfie images look fake and doctors up.
The comparison at 4:39 is not completely fair. Because by decreasing the distance of the HTC 10 and the flower you could have achieved the same field of view. The flower is larger on the S7's image.
S7's camera is better, but HTC 10 has also a great one. And it gets updates really quick, so who knows what to expect any time soon! Thanks for the comparison.

Looks like +SuperSaf TV gave up on comparing devices with Nexus 6P, I would have loved seeing a comparison between the 6P vs S7/HTC 10. Looking at older videos I still prefer the image quality of the 6P, despite its video not being as great. After all in a way the 6P with the big 12MP sensor kind of set the the way for these other mobile cameras.

I'm very surprised you concluded that the HTC 10's audio was better. What struck me from the very beginning was how much louder and clearer the audio was from the S7, versus the muffled result from the 10. Maybe something got lost as the audio was filtered through UA-cam and my desktop system. Who knows. As for the actual cameras, I was surprised at how much the S7 dominated in the comparison with the 10. If you look at the smartphone market right now, Samsung needs to make a better phones than Apple, and I think it has with the S7, versus the iPhone 6s - especially on the camera front. Similarly, companies like HTC and LG need to make better phones than Samsung, and I just don't think the 10 and the G5 cut it. They're very good phones, in comparison with the S7, as well as the 6S. But not better, and maybe not even as good.

No the 5X camera holds up well to the s7. But I think it's a downgrade to go to the HTC 10 from my 5X because the camera on that phone is better than the 10 especially in low light
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I spent an hour with the LG G5, HTC 10 and S7 at the store. The headphone sound on the HTC 10 blows everything else away. I was using Westone 2 IEMs and a variety of music. And without headphones the speakers also blew away the others due to the richness of sound.
The HTC 10's camera is amazing. It's just the S7 is the best in the market

No the 5X camera holds up well to the s7. But I think it's a downgrade to go to the HTC 10 from my 5X because the camera on that phone is better than the 10 especially in low light
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I spent an hour with the LG G5, HTC 10 and S7 at the store. The headphone sound on the HTC 10 blows everything else away. I was using Westone 2 IEMs and a variety of music. And without headphones the speakers also blew away the others due to the richness of sound.

did you have the after market software update that was given to the HTC10 for this video?
Why not incorporate this benchmark as part of camera comparisions -> How long does it take to open the camera and take a shot/record a video.
