This one I am frankly impressed by, though I must say two minor things regarding to some of the instrumentation. One is that FBZ is a Cube Corporation track and Cube instruments weren't used by the other music programmers as they are their own organization with their own bank of instruments. Secondly, Blue Spheres (The Special Stage theme) Is a stock track that Sega games could utilize as a placeholder meaning that utilizing its instruments (unless its a stock instrument for all music programmers to use) is also inaccurate, theres a theory going around that it wasn't even meant to stay in this game, though need i digress. Here is a listing of what each music programmer did as far as tracks go: Masayuki Nagao - AIZ2 (Speculated) HCZ1 (Speculated) HCZ2 (Confirmed) CNZ1B (speculated) CNZ2B (highly likely) LBZ2B (highly likely) LRZ1&2 (Confirmed) DPZ (highly likely) CGZ (highly likely) CompetitionB (highly likely) Jun Senoue - No Way! (Confirmed) KnucklesB (Speculated) Slot Machine (Confirmed) Gumball Machine (Confirmed) Act Complete (Confirmed) Masaru Setsumaru - S3 & S&K Title (Confirmed?) Data Select (Confirmed) AIZ1 (Speculated, Could also possibly be Nagao) ICZB 1&2 (Speculated) LBZ1B (Speculated) MHZ (Collab with Cube Speculated) SSZ (Confirmed) DDZ (Collab with Cube Speculated) BPZ (Though Senoue composed it, its speculated Set programmed it in) EMZ (Speculated) Unused theme (Speculated) Cube Corp almost all confirmed (They all contain custom instruments that are edits of each other) - MGZ FBZ SPZ MHZ (Highly Likely) DEZ Maj Boss Minor Boss Final Boss DDZ ALZ EMZ (Unlikely) Yoshiaki Kashima - Unnamed Stock Track (Blue Spheres)
as someone whos interested in sonic 3 proto stuff, this list is intriguing! thanks for sharing. although, i have a little question, does the "B" in tracks such as CNZ stand for Buxer or Beta?
I think Mushroom Hill Zone and Endless Mine Zone were definitely both CUBE Corp. tracks. I wouldn't say that's unlikely. The instrumentation in MHZ is fairly similar to that of Marble Garden Zone, and uses a few of the same patches, some with slight differences and adjustments to them, especially in the prototype. The same can be said about Endless Mine Zone. It uses a lot of instrumentation from Flying Battery Zone. Its also worth mentioning that the Glowing Spheres special stage was a CUBE Corp track (I didn't see it on the list). That being said though, I don't think that kind of accuracy is really what we're going for here given that most of the Sonic 3 composition styles and programming is speculative anyway and no one actually knows who did what. It would just be a bunch of unnecessary effort to replicate that and it would limit what we could actually do with the soundtrack. Some of the tracks don't follow any of the s3k voice banks at all. I appreciate the small details though like you, and maybe its something to consider closer to release
this is a much better track for New Blue Spheres* i love the use of some Competition Mode instruments, and the Blue Spheres motif at 1:00 is SO GOOD and also at 1:16 is that the Desert Palace bass?
0:00 Dude, this song even referenced the character selection music from Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Sonic and friends really wanna take me for a ride with this one, huh...
Damn, this track spits bars. I wonder if I could use this track for a semi-final stage in a Sonic 3 AIR mod?

This is CRAZY, but What If SEGA Fixed Origins and added mods to consoles it would be cool!
Mods on consoles? We can only dream!
when the blue sphere is perfected
Definitely getting some 3D Blast vibes out of this.
