Great Video, I just ordered a FT-450D. These radios are very inexpensive now selling for 680 bucks. You cant beat an export radio for 680 that does 100W, has built in ATU and IF DSP.
Nothing like the thrill of cracking open an 800 buck rig and taking a soldering iron to it.... Mod worked great. I didn't have diodes, I had 0 Ohm resistors. I simply lifted one leg. That way, should i have to, I can put back in place. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. I've just followed your instructions
and unlocked my radio no problem at all.
Great video on how to Modify radio,,I just order my new radio today, will be here in a few days, lookin forward to it much so,and
to have it changed over.....!!...Looks very very simple too do...Great video,,Thank you much...Very helpful.....Rich
I just did this on my radio, it worked fine thanks. The jumper is soldered to the large ground pad so it takes quite a bit of heat to de-solder it. Also, when you turn the radio back on, be aware that it's done a factory reset so any settings you had will be wiped and it'll go back to how it was when it was new (but will now transmit on all frequency's in all modes).
I'm getting mine FT-450D tomorrow... I bought it second hand (close to mint condition), but I think it hasn't been TX-modded yet... So this video comes in very handy. Thanks! -AP!
Whoah! I never thought this would be so easy to do!...Got mine done using only a pointed blade and its fast as 1-2-3! Happy days it is! :) Thanks for the tutorial vid!
thanks i think you have helped me make up my mind to witch radio to get.
Worked a treat, Thanks : )
Awesome just followed you video and worked a treat
Omg,it works great,I also changed my swr1. 2. 3 to 135 from 85 it's a true 80-10 meters on my antron 99 with no antenna tuner, awesome job 👍 Thanks my friend
And the MORONS that gave your video a (thumbs down) are the same ones who police all the Ham radio forums. GREAT VIDEO!
cant understand pple saying this vid is not clear..... simple and very easy to follow thanks .... just did mine and it works a treat
cookie bear Are you for real? He points with a veritable hammer handle of a soldering iron, it is out of focus and then when it is in focus he tells you what to do without without accurately pointing to it.
He pre supposes everybody knows as much as he does also.
This is a terrible video - poorly planned and executed even more poorly.
ThePaulv12 just watched it again and saw no problem following his instructions , you must have no tech ability at all if you cant follow this simple video lol
cookie bear The opposite actually, but I admit not in the area of electronics. Thing is I have the gear and skill to do this confidently but FIIK if I can see what he's on about; I need clear, exact instructions, and it seems so do many others.
Worked perfect on my older model 450 too. Thanks!
"Excellent work, thank you for the details.
All works corect , thanks for Yours QTC :o) Best 73 !!
pretty easy, thanks for the video!
Thanks great visit
Hello. Great mod! Will this mod limit the radio to 1-33mhz and remove 50mhz tx/rx? Or will this mod just add 11m and mars? Thanks
tell me your take on the FT450D is there receiver really good and how is the transmit audio can you get it to transmit 100 to 3000 HZ is there a mod to get it to transmit wider or transmitted just what I wrote to you give me some input thinking on buying this radio happy new year
Does doing this mod still allow for it to go up to 6 meters? or does it restrict it to 1.8 - 33.00 mhz?
Know this is a really late comment, but does this remove the usb/cw restriction from the 60m band? We have a MARS test coming, and I drive my data using the data line. Can't recognize ptt if not in data mode.
Couldn’t really see what one you was pointing too.need to use something thinner 👍
Do you jumper that gap where the diode was with solder? I've seen a few guides online that say to do this, and it's also in the video by Yvo Muniz that you see in the related video section. Ideas?
FlyBoy276 all I did was just simply remove the diode all together and reset the radio
Hello! Is there a manual explaining the Service Menu of the FT450D?
When I'm trying to transmit more than 50W in CW (35W in SSB), it blocks itself ... Like a security... Maybe one of the previous owner did a change in this menu, It happens even with a swr of 1.1 ... (I hope, else it's a PA's problem)...
Legend....thanks pal
After the mod. It will only tx up to 33 mhs? What about say 34-49?
This modification actually works if you take out that second resistor jumper.
nou ik heb het ook gedaan en het werkt perfect, dank je wel voor de uitleg...19rfhje henk
Hi will this transmit in the AM mode as well after this modification? Thanks
How do you get to service menu on a 450at. ? the top diode has been removed
I have just done this mod thx and would you mind if I included this video in my next episode?
Awesome
got a problum the cable that connect fount pannel both ends to transceiver came out pushed it back in thes sound when i switch on but now the fount pannel wont light up have i not push it in another
Is it the same mod With e.g. FT-450AT and FT-450 too?
same for ft 450(without "d") older model ?
piece of cake
hi could you do a video of it
expanded transmit. of Yaesu DR-2X Repeater. thanks looking forward a video of the mod
Hola saludos tu sabrías abrir el xiegu 108g para transmitir 27mhz?
Nice video, could you please make one on how to change the earphone Jack? It would be a big help to me..... thanks....
Hello
its a long time ago you put this video on youtube.
i have a question. you talk about A type Amateur mode. I have a FT450 AT and he is comming out of the box as 6 or B type. What is that???
Cool mod .
Here's a idea for a video .
I have a FT 450 non D the buttons are red I can't see them unless in sunlight makes operating awful .
Has anyone ordered the button pads in white for 450Dvand replaced the red buttons so one can see his radio functions ? Amazingly enough I googled subject to the bitter end no info or posts out there. Can it be done?
VP8PJ is booming into the NW on 60m and the FT-450D will not transmit (on a LEGAL ham band). Very tempting to get out the soldering iron and void my warranty!
Yes I watched your video I have a yaesu ft-450d. thanks for the information. How do you unlock a yaesu ft-991a. And if so can you do a new tube video about it thanks
I have seen three videos on how to do this now but I've seen no videos on them using the radio afterwards. How do we even know that the radio works Maybe by doing this you just scrapped the radio.
Tried the mod, Removed the second zero ohm smd chip ,didn't work. The A Type would not change to T type. Thoughts
How about a mod for transmitting 460-520khz?
nice youtube .. going to do the mod soon ... but my question is why are you calling it a Diode??
Can you point me in the right direction to figure out similar mods to other radios?
thanks a lot .. found the text version of the mod online, but its waaaaay better with video. 73 PA2RY
On another video the guy was moving a switch underneath the face plate. .??
Thank you so much!!!!!!
Useful for 5MHz band if you're a ham and for the CB guys but illegal for everything else! 5 mhz can also be enabled by a software hack which is published in a PDF on the Yaesu site and for that you don't need to open the rig!
sorry ! 60 meter band is programed in the radio from the factory. no need to modify unless you are mars affiliated. or you to talk illegally on the cb band
@@robertmethia7080 How the radio is factory configured depends which country you live in.
Hi, did this mod on my ft450d and set to t type and saved it but mine wouldn't transmit at all anywhere!!.....so ended up putting link back in....By the way it is not a diode but is a 000 link which is the same as a short.....cheers Kev G7ILP
I dont have audio now, what setting could it be ?
I'm worried about what this would do to the finals 😁
if your worried thats a good indication not to do it, besides why do want to wreck a perfectly good working radio
If I do this mod can I TX on the AM broadcast band? Hypothetically speaking.
What are other jumpers for?
My radio only have max 40 watt out put. RF power setting is 100 watt
Dear friend forgive the daring to write to him on his channel but I would like your opinion
technique of the problem of my Yaesu FT-450 equipment.
Now I explain the history of my Yaesu FT-450.
I will tell you that the radio was in perfect condition and works without
problem, about 15 days ago a friend brought me an FT747 to measure
the power because he had changed the rf out transistors. I connected the
my friend's radio and I put cw and when I press PTT I realize that my FT-450
it was on it has a burning smell but no smoke only smell.
At that moment I turn it off and realize that I had an antenna on that is
two meters from the antenna that I was testing the FT-747, the conclusion that
serve is that with the proximity of the two antennas my FT-450 got a lot
RF and something was damaged or burned.
When I turned it on again it was another radio, I had a lot of problems like:
-ALC does not work in any gang
-The power goes down to 40 or 50 watts in cw and FM and when I transmit in ssb the power
it drops to 20 or 25 watts in almost all bands except 80 and 30m which outputs almost 100 watts
in cw.
-In the 6m band the reception has problems, strange noises are felt and only
it outputs 5 watts in cw and when I transmit in 6m there is a noise in the radio horn
It is the band that is worse, in the other bands the reception seems to be ok and
it has good sencibility.
-The internal tuner antenna of the radio goes crazy and does not adjust correctly, I will
disable the tuner antenna (INT TUNER) and continue with the same problems which
It shows me that the internal tuner antenna of the radio has no problems.
-When I press the ATT button, the RF OUT power in transmission decreases even more and
This cannot happen because ATT and IPO do not work in transmission.
I physically checked all the components to see if any were burned
or they had another color but visually all the components are in very good condition
physical.
I reset the microprocessor manually with POWER-HOME and also reset it by
sofwear with a program that Yaesu has for the FT-450 that updates in
microprocessor and there was no change.
I have no idea that it may have been burned or spoiled, it strikes me
that the radio's ALC does nothing and this may be the problem, but I don't know
which component in the ALc may be wrong.
I have all manuals and diagrams of service and adjustment.
With all this information that I have given you, I would like you to study the problem and I
give your opinion or idea that the radio may have affected so that it has so many
problems. My mistake was testing the FT747 with the other antenna attached to the FT450
I think that RF entered through the antenna and something burned, but I don't know what it could be.
If you have any questions tell me I can do the measurements you tell me or check
some components, I measured some diodes placed on the board and they are in good
state.
I await your opinion, a million thanks in advance.
Greetings .- Eduardo
how do you remove it ? what is removed ?
after shot of mod?
I don't see being locked down to only ham frequencies as a problem
I've yet to set my 450D up yet but reading the manual the 60 metre band UK channel frequencies seem out of date so this modification could be useful for that.
Having said that I will not be modifying my 450D with this mod.
Robert, that is because you were born with a functioning brain.. while these other clowns are cross polarized.
If you are a CAP or MARS operator, you would have to settle for the real thing, like a MOBAT radio which cost about $8k brand new which have parts unavailable for civilians to fix it if something goes wrong. And THIS is a problem!
It's locked down to amateur frequencies at the time of that radio's release, which is a problem since we've gotten new bands since then.
Truth be told, I'd rather have a way to add the new bands, but we have to make do with this.
How about a mod for transmitting 69.1875 MHz
When you do this you lose the 60 meter memory channels and the Alaska emergency channel. It is also illegal unless you are a MARS affiliate.
He did nt tell you this but you will VOID your warrenty.
mykenwood830 Nope doing this WILL NOT void your warrenty..... I ph'd yaesu and asked ;-)
Yeah it will. And before you start calling someone dumbass it's spelled does okay ? hahahahaha
Tell me why would you want to do that to your radio just give me one explanation
Well isn't that just dandy.. now you are a Felon.
pretty much anyone who has CB these days is buddy, FCC cane enforce CB regs anymore.
A felon ?
That's a bit harsh.
IF you TRANSMIT then you might be but making the mod won't make you a 'felon'
Just done this mod on my new 450d...only prob I had...when I got to the part of the instructions where you get SMADJO on the rigs display....I was rotating DSP/SEL looking for type A...where TYPE A should have been I had B TYPE instead...thought I had done it wrong but I looked a few more times still only B TYPE came up after the previous number 41 on the display.
I followed the instructions from here and it went straight to Type T.
Transmits across the whole band but the AM broadcast band wont now tune properly on the VFO...no big deal but I wonder if anybody else has found this.
Drop me an email please if you have had similar results....it wont transmit on the broadcast band by the way.
My email is nickjaxe AT ntlworld.com
I need open band for marine use in case anybody is wondering why I did the mod.
I did this mod as I need marine TX.
FYI to you or anyone else wondering about this: When you do the reset it reverts back to the factory default which I believe has FM and AM modes tuning via the DSP/SEL knob instead of the main VFO knob. The way to enable tuning those modes with the main knob is to go into the rig's settings, and look for 'A&FDIAL' and toggle it over to ENABLE. 73 from W5SMS

If this was as simple and straightforward as implied, why was it not done ON the video. Truthfully, it was vague as to which diode was being cut, due to poor focus and never actually putting a pointer ON the component, it was more like .......uuuhhh, its one of these over around somewhere in this area here. Nope, not gonna risk cutting what might be the right diode on a transceiver I just spent $700 for and then $100 for a power supply. For what? CB?
Frank Elmer funny, funny. what crawled up this Dave guys pants leg. holy crap, he just can't calm down. maybe he was dropped on his head when he was a baby.
dont do it then, I wouldnt . spend $30.00 on a cb and after 5 minutes of that, you have only wasted $30.00
It will be a fine day when these guys all go to the slammer, or get fined and lose everything they own. Fitting end for scoff-laws. When a radio working legally is a "Problem" the world is in sad shape.
I see you posted a couple of years ago, then again a month ago, so maybe you'll see this. I'm a HAM, 40 years now, and I'm also a prepper. In a true emergency, communications out of band would not be judged so harshly. If i have a rig which is capable of OOB use, great. Doesn't mean i WILL use it, or even WANT to use it OOB. Same logic as having a car that'll do 140 mph. Where can you drive it that fast? I have other licenses as well, including GMRS! Who bothers with GMRS licensing these days?
Sorry but I am just not seeing it. Why do this mod? Once you enlighten me on this mod I will be like WTF did I not see that but until then ?????
not detailed and clear enough for me to understand what you did on the circuit board sorry shane uk
shaneweightman He removed the Resistor on the top set of Resistors.
**Edited to reflect correct information**
I'm Bill N0LRY and I have read this UA-cam posting for about three months now .......
So I gave it a try , and wouldn't you know it, the mod I performed did came out very well
uesd my soldering iron and just lifted one end of the 0 diode up, then put the unit back together and followed the rest of your video and poff ! Two thumbs up good to go
