plot twist: the garbage advice is garbage because vaush is interpreting them in the most bad faith way possible. "Set your house in order" isn't about being perfect in absolute terms, it's about doing what you CAN do, which is obviously a very good idea. I work in mental health and am in school to get my masters and become a therapist. What you said was accurate, Peterson "advice" is a mixture of vacuous nothingness and obvious things most people understand without being told it.
His self help on the surface is relatively benign, but when mixed with his solcial commentary and ideology is dangerous. Most people don't just stop listening to Peterson after 12 rules for life, they find his lectures and interviews. Also listening to his lectures it is almost unintelligible, a lot like some of his responses to questions. His debate with Matt Dillahunty has some great moments where Matt asks a question and Peterson just rambles meaninglessly.

In personal use, it's especially not for other people because it's usually not put on when other people are around (and thus is inherently based on personal preference). As for people using make up when they're home alone, do you have a source for that? Just consider for a moment the claim you made. Changing the world or a society is an extremely daunting task that requires a extreme amount of patience and resilience. If you’re not taking care of yourself or your mental health, you are not going to make it far. Look at the leftist discourse on mental health, it’s almost like we’re more inclined to excuse, cuddle and massage mental disorders instead of finding ways and advice to cope with them. If you’re experiencing major bout of depression and anxiety, your first priority is yourself. it’s less related to the overall point but i have to mention how insane the conversation with that old man was. he had like ten pomeranians (which is how the convo started - they were all very mean to any approaching dogs, but when my pomeranian approached they were chill. these were some very racist dogs.) and he talked about his dogs, how he bred them, how he had MORE AT HOME. and then the convo drifted to just. the craziest stuff i just stood there and nodded so he’d keep talking. he said he isolated the exact part of the brain stem where the soul is located and that this knowledge could cure autism. an objectively awful take but the experience was FASCINATING

Being hooked on benzos while telling ppl they shouldn’t engage in any type of activism or political outreach (JP’s whole career) until you’ve gotten your own house in order (a goal that is never truly attainable and he knows that) makes him a hypocrite b/c JP’s house is *FAR* from “in order.”

He preaches an ideology where addicts and poor ppl should be dismissed or ignored because they lack the discipline and strength of character to be taken seriously. Meanwhile JP’s own life is a goddamn mess. By his own logic, no one should listen to him.
It’s a good thing most leftists don’t agree with this approach. I don’t think being addicted to benzos makes JP unworthy of consideration, I don’t think having a messy personal life invalidates someone’s arguments or worldview. But Jordan Peterson does.

ah yea, adhd has "now" and "not now" when it comes to time management. my advice is to not see it as a future goal, but instead a bunch of right now goals. if you can make healthy eating and working out enjoyable itself (which it can be), you dont need to fight your adhd and try to plan for the future. i use this for school. i want to be top of my class with really great grades, but even a few months feels like too long of a goal to really work out. so instead, i give myself the goal of doing as good as i can on every project, which has the same effect as doing good for the entire class but its more digestable for my brain. if youre struggling with something, try breaking it down into smaller tasks, even if it means breaking your essay down sentence by sentence. another comment suggested making that thing a hyperfixation, which also works great
dont try to fight against your adhd so you can pretend to have a neurotypical brain, because itll just be a constant battle and end up making you feel exhausted. work with what you have, use your weaknesses to your advantage. having adhd is like driving somewhere just to find out a tree fell on the road. you can give up, or you can try to drive through the tree, but neither will help you get to where you need to go and itll feel like the worlds against you. just remember that you can take the scenic route, and sure itll take longer but its better than trying to overpower a tree blocking your way

Yes and no. There is a difference between looking respectable and looking sexy. It´s kind of unfair to women, because most of their fashion choices are on the sexy side, even if they try to just look respectable. Skirts, tight blouses, push-up bras, heels, lipsticks etc. are all designed to directly elevate their sexual characteristics (and in case of the heels, also to destroy their feet, lol). The closest male equivalent is a tight tank top on a muscular dude, or tight pants to show a nice-looking ass, none of which is usually a part of a male outfit at work. What REALLY got me to the point where I can talk to anybody was becoming a bartender.
Among the best lessons I’ve learned is that I can get along with pretty much everybody. Even a person who i totally disagree with on pretty much everything. I just have to find the level where we DO agree and stick with that.
Although some of the best conversations I’ve had were with people who I don’t agree with who were willing to exchange ideas in a civil way, we didn’t have to change each other’s minds, just sharing thoughts. Not everybody is capable of that, in which case I stick with talking about weather or music or whatever.

JPs position on working with women has real "what were you wearing when the man sexually harassed you in the workplace" vibes.
The idea that no king has assaulted a scullery maid is laughable.
Also, not to be harsh, but the maid that the Govenator cheated on his wife with, wasn't exactly a glamour model. More she was, proximate.

Honestly, shonen anime actually saved me and helped me construct a more compassionate masculinity for myself, no joke. Then again, I was also reacting against the dipshit misogynists online and was trying to stitch together something else that fit with my already-held values. That, the isolation of COVID, and the sheer self-hatred I had to work through finally allowed me to make peace with myself, construct a healthy self-concept, and become a leftist.
EDIT: I also came across Vaush on accident while looking for UA-cam takes on the Smash Bros sexual assault stuff.

I don't think the rules in themselves are the issue with Peterson. If you watch Jake and Hannah's review of the first book... what he writes in each chapter is very yikes.

I straight up don't know how to be confident anymore. I spent my entire childhood building up this idea that everyone near me had these massive expectations because I coasted through high school. I destroyed any hope to meet those expectations (due to things in and out of my control) and now I live in a future that didn't exist in my mind. I fear that it will take another childhood-length of time to get back to the point where I think I deserve to take up space, and my physical health suffered so much from my depression I fear I won't live that long. Idk why anyone would still be reading this cause I mean who cares, but I don't have anywhere else to say it. I wish the thing making me worse wouldn't make it so hard to do anything to get better.

it’s so funny to see Jordan Peterson’s character arc from “Be precise in your speech” to “Do not hide unwanted things in the fog”. Like damn creative writing class take it down a notch

So... Jordan Peterson doesn't want women wearing high heels in the workplace? So... wouldn't he be in agreement with the feminists fighting against women being *required* to wear high heels in many workplaces?

    • @justalostlocal
      @justalostlocal 2 роки тому

No. The difference is JP wants to *limit* women's choices of professional wardrobe and makeup vs feminists wanting to *expand* women's choices to wear more casual clothing or no makeup and not be devalued in workplace.

Some advice for my fellow aspies and other people who need help with social skills; try working or volunteering in aged care or disability. I'm an aspie and I've been working in aged care for six years. It's helped me develop my social skills, confidence and small-talk skills tremendously. It's hard work and intimidating, but so worth it.
That and you build relationships with people who are really interesting, but ignored by society because they're old and/or disabled.

One thing I will say - and I think this is why it’s so popular - the little things like “make one room as beautiful as possible” and “do one thing and try to see how it goes” is really good for people that have depression and anxiety, where tasks can seem daunting and overwhelming. Sometimes compartmentalizing that can make it easier to actually follow through with, over taking on your entire home all at once. Especially if you have let things get bad
