You have 5 years on me but my story is similar starting in 96 to about 2003 or whenever the scene went to hell! At least where I'm from in the Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit, and Ohio. Nothing will compare to warehouse parties in the 90s and dnb was like heroin for my ears! I listen to dnb absolutely everyday at work making brass instruments. And I live the lifestyle still. Everyday junglist baby!
Eeeeyeaaahhh ! 46 here - those were the days! Feel privileged as well to be a part of such a fun, supportive music scene. 90's rave parties were incredible!
52 and still into the club seen, yes old man dad dancing, but lucky to experience the music from late 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s music. None of the modern stuff comes close to the variety, originality, and feeling it gave us in the clubs, raves or on holiday of experiencing the new styles first time round. Get a time machine and go back to the early days of dance, club, house, rap, hip hop, acid, jungle and raves in the UK and clubs scene in Ibiza when it first started, then you know you have lived.
The reason you feel that way is because when your body is young it produces much more dopamine when you experience new things, your body simply can't do that no more.
Then you are not going to the right clubs, underground events or festivals. You will only get the experience you seek, if you are going to generic clubs, then don’t expect anything other than club, pop dance music. Have to run in the right circles to get the good raves. The world is plentiful of talented underground artists and good raves. The underground is still underground, you need to know where to look.
