    Thanks for the QSO and being featured in your video. I was using the Bencher straight key. I am an active SOTA chaser and activator. For my SOTA activations I use the SW-3B (5w) rig or an FT-818 (6w) to end-fed resonant wires or linked dipoles.
    Stay well & 73! Mike, WB2FUV

      Mike we all flock to the same areas! I see you got Hunter this month too! Can’t wait till winter bonus starts. I’ve exhausted all the summits within 5 hour drive time of my QTH but will go after the bonus points before years end!

    Great QRP outing Tom, you did just fine. I like that you do not edit your mistakes. lets everyone that's thinking about doing what you are doing but afraid to screw up, know that we all do it. I've been on cw since 1960! and I still screw up ! its human nature. No one will chatise you for it. anyone with any kind of salt will appreciate you for it. As for the 1.3 SWR now you know why I've said in the past comment here and there. that a resonant antenna is better off than a non-resonant one with a tuner to load it up. you are getting more power to the antenna without the tuner. I'm not disputing tuners. on the contrary. but if I got my druthers of using one vs not! I'll take the not each and every time. especially running off 9v batt. and qrp the way you were. not having the tuner in line, added few more milliwatts to the antenna for sure. and at QRP! every little bit helps. great job Tom thank you so much for doing it and for sharing. 72! gud dx de Ellis WA1RKS

      Hey Thanks for the nice comment. I truly agree about not using a tuner, but sometimes it's hard in the field to get a tuned antenna. This whip allows you to modifiy it easy so I'm going to be using it more and more. 73

      @@hamradiocq Keep doing it dude... most folks don't really think of what is happening here, a small circuit board with a few components, a few volts and a wire and the world could be at your fingertips. I can't imagine the thoughts that went into the head of our founding radio fathers, when they made contact and had a reply... what magic!
      And to put it all together, a georgeous day, freedom of a Jeep that will take you just about anywhere nature thrives... thank god for magnetism.. 😊

    I’ve watched your videos for years… I learn from your field deployments. The equipment, the tips & tricks, the mistakes, the fails, and the successes. It’s how we best learn… thanks for Field Ops 101! (At the graduate level).
    Now it’s time to get out, and teach someone else what I’ve learned… make some QSO’s, improve my skills, and have fun.

    You are the man. You have the patience of Job, but fortunately not his luck. Always good to see you out doing what you love to do and are good at doing. It seems that you have been under stress the last few months. Perhaps I am mistaken.

    Great qso tom . ..you probably already know this but it helps to have a little cheat sheet with things written on it that you want to say, it takes the pressure off

    Really a nice video Tom. Loved the intro with the camera shot of the undercarriage of your Jeep......that was neat. Great job with the MTR3B. I had one, but sold it . I might just have to look for another one. Keep on keeping on! Love your videos. 73, George K2WO

      Ha thanks, well my plan was to run over the camera without breaking it. I had it aimed high and that what turned out. I love the jeep but wish it had more storage.

    Thank you Tom, great video, I have the same problem when I try to ad-lib and sometimes get mixed up when using the crib sheet, but it’s great fun, as your video shows, it is really exciting when you get a call strait back. 73 de G4ISS john

    Great QSO, I have the same whip(s), I bought the Chameleon CHA TDL (Tactical Delta Loop), when I setup the anteanna as a vertical I use their transformer with the whip and one 25' counterpoise. It tunes up on 80 down to 6. When I use it in the delta loop configuration it's NVIS with 80 and 40. I'm glad you're having great success with the 17' whip as a stand alone with no tuner. I have seen that you can adjust the whip to match impedance to 50 ohms without a tuner. 73 de AI5DD

    Simply Outstanding !!! Just one question for my info, did you tune the radials properly or just cut em roughly for 20m..TNX

    • @hamradiocq
      @hamradiocq  3 роки тому +1

      I cut them as best I could for 20M, so roughly, so when they splay out they are NOT exact. Just do your best.

    I looked at the Mountain Topper rig. The end of that was the word “kit”. My hands have age related tremors. Can’t hold an iron steady. I will purchase a kit someone has made already, but can’t make one anymore. I even have big trouble with connectors so I but already made pigtails and runs of coax. Enough complaining. I do read about your equipment mentions below your videos and try to purchase what you use.

    • @hamradiocq
      @hamradiocq  3 роки тому

      No, this is not a put together kit. I bought this at hamvention already built. Just remember it doesn't have a speaker or tuner so it's kind of a pain.
