Both front and back planetary gears in my fy03 and binding up, it's not too bad a problem as all 4 wheels are locked for traction. Out of the box I had to take the car apart as the pinion gear was jammed up into the spur causing the motor to run slow and hard. I also changed the connectors on both fy03 and my wltoys to xt60's so I can use my pro charger on them.
The TX for the 12428 uses 'trim-pots' for the main trigger and steering controls ( no, I don't mean the for the trimmers). Predictably, these wore out after 3 months of use. Replacement pots are not readily available, so expect to need a new TX every few months.
Please can someone help me. When you turn on the rc with the wheels turned it turns them straight again ok? Mine thinks that all the way left is straight. When I start with my wheels straight it turns it left all the way because it thinks the wheels are pointing right. When I try to turn all the way right the wheels are straight. This is absolutely frustrating and I need help bc I don’t know how to fix it.
Thank you for answering so many questions I had. At least WL admits they sell toys. Love all my toys. Almost happy when I break them, that's when the fun begins,
Are the cages interchangeable? I've got a 12423 (shortcourse version of the 12428, same chassis different bodies) and i want to swap it to a buggy so i can take it off road without having to worry about the tires rubbing. I like the fieyu cage better because it's black, but i'm not too sure it'll fit.
The wltoys cage is taller than the feiyue one so the feiyue doesn't sit properly on the wltoys. It is pretty close though, I believe most of the attachment points fit except for the screws on the bottom of the chassis as the feiyue cage doesn't reach down far enough.
hello, whats slipper clutch function??? i think i choose feiyue no problem with a speed can upgrade to brushless, and the cvd change to metal?? answer my question ok thx :)
I'm about to order the skyrc cheetah 4000kv brushless motor esc combo with program card. what's your opinion honestly if known about the product. I really like the power switch built rite into the esc and the ability of timing. it has sensored motor. or should I spent a little more on something else
Your right and I had meant to! The WL toys plastic is definitely softer by a fairly good amount. I can't say for sure as I haven't had enough run time with it yet. But I don't think it will be a big problem. I've bent a couple of it's pieces to 90 degree angle a few times and it's returned to its normal shape no problem. I will be getting quite a bit more run time with it soon and I will make an update about it.
I've managed to fix binding gears by sanding them down. you usually don't have to remove too much material to get them working well. does it feel like the gears are binding or in spot or binding everywhere? I do wish they had better quality control on the parts.
@@basketballcoachmike a friend of mine, a mechanic, used to use toothpaste which is mildly abrasive to break in fishing reels. That might work in this situation? w the high RPMs me thinks it has a good chance, or that is if the quality isn't too far out of specs.
@@kevincody8391 i bought the plastic gears for up front and i bought the whole rear axle that is already assembled with the metal gears for the back. it is up and running and a blast to drive. it only took 2 months thanks to the slow shipping, but for the price what a great car. thanks for your idea about the tooth paste. i will try that the next time i am waiting a month for the replacement parts to show up.
@@basketballcoachmikeeye am thinking that a mild abrasive might be step #2 or 3. The imperfections you and others have described are so bad an Xacto knife is sometimes step 1? hi mate i need your advice gearbest shipt my wltoys to the wrong address and wanted me to pay for their mistake after a lot of trash talk I got them so far to give me a full refund but did already by spare parts lol knowing the rear and front diff fails a lot and that's why i'm thinking about getting the Fy03 kit and do a brushless upgrade but I see a gearbox in the FY03 and wonder how well that works? and can it handle the power of a 540motor? which of the two cars do you thinks is better quality and can handle the most speed? by the way, how do you control the gearbox is done by a servo? really wonder how to set it up on my radio (turnigy 9xr pro) yes I'm old skool I grow up with 2 channel stick radio.. no steering wheel never liked it and never while lol
The feiyue is not built for a 540 motor, it wouldn't be able to handle the power. The feiyue as has no controllable gear box, it's just a single speed. The Feiyue can handle speed/power better because it has better diff, the wltoys12428 has plastic diff gears that create problems easily. Setting it up on the turnigy 9x pro shouldn't be a problem as long as you have things on the right channel.
Thanks mate for helping out I bought a 3650 4300Kv Brushless Motor and 45Amp ESC for 3S but start Running on a 2S for a week and see how the parts a holding up before trying 3S
I have a question ? I just bought a FY-03 and love it, except it got very, very hot on a 8ish minute run on a soccer field grass (not damp at all) and CAUGHT FIRE !! Not the battery, the battery was fine, it just fried the innards ? I was not hard on the throttle at all, just driving around having fun, I doubt i had it over 6-10 mph at its fastest. Do you know of this problem ? Thank you very much
Oh damn that really sucks! To me it sounds like there might of been a defect in the speed controller/receiver unit, that'd be my best guess. Since it's so new you should still have some kind of warranty I'd think?
Well, i bought parts to fix it, most of the innards were OK, but it brain is fried ;- (. They gave me a little bit of a deal on a new one, but not much, I'm not overly happy with the seller,, we will see. Got to tell you though, I love the FY-03 .. it was a blast driving around in the desert and on the soccer field (where it caught fire) .. it's like walking your dog but it goes exactly where you want it to, and you don't have to pick up any poop, LOL, LOL. Thanks for the reply and keep your vid going, I have learned a lot.
I agree it is fun! One of the things I like doing is just going for a walk with an rc on near by trials. I've had quite a few people comment on my "walking" my rc toy hehe.
Would it be posable to replase the esc so it can run brushless but with out needing a new transmitter and reciver ? Thanks agin mate your advice is spot on
The wltoys has plastic diff gears. The gear will strip on the axle shaft which has two sides flattened so as the gear won’t turn on the axle. The screw holding the gear onto the axle is LocTited into the axle shaft so removing it is impossible without breaking the head of the screw. I bought two 12428’s for my kids and both had this problem on the very first day. Ordered steel gear kit but I guess the axles are no good as screws are broken off in them. Any solutions??? Heard the FY03 axles and diff doesn’t fit????
I had the same problem with the screw breaking off and ended up using the vehicle for other things. I'm think that the fy03 rear end fits physically, the problem is the gear ratio is different so the front and rear wheels would spin at different speeds. I'm not sure how much of a different though. I kinda of just gave up on it after I broke the screw off and use some of the parts on another project. Sorry that isn't a more helpful answer
bigkiang plays Hi , just got the 12428 from eBay , it came with a metal skid pan on the bottom of the front of the car and when I disassembled the diff it had metal gears ! Maybe there’s been an upgrade from Wltoys for the 12428 , I’ve since seen both 12428s with and without the metal skid plate at the front in numerous UA-cam videos , anyone have any input ?
I have the WL Toys I really like it...I'm curious if you were going to swap out the 540 motor to a better 540 brushed motor for the wltoys can you make a recommendation? I know there are different turns 10 turn, 12 turn, 15 turn...if You were going to upgrade the car with a better 540 brushed motor a new servo and esc....can you give me a list of what to get? Thanks...I really like how fast it is...even a bit faster would be better.
I'm probably going to keep the stock motor but remove the stock receiver/speed controller and servos and replace them. I'm not sure how many turns the stock motor is but If I was going to replace it I would most likely go for something in the 10-12 turn range. I don't really think the gears in the WL Toys will handle more speed though. For the speed controller I'm most likely going to use a castle creations sidewinder 3 as I have a spare one sitting around.
If I swap the entire front diff and axles could I run feiyue axles and the front diff from feiyue in my wltoys because I keep wearing out the front cups on my diff?
To swap the front diff takes a little bit of modification to get it to fit, the other problem with doing so is it will have a different gear ratio than the back so the tires will spin at a different speed. How big of a difference I am not sure, it may be enough to make the vehicle behave weird or it might not be.
what about backing off the timing thru the card and or on the back of the motor. it has a program card and sensored on back of motor. I plan on backing everything down for awhile to break in the motor easy, plus I'm always easy on my rc's most I jump is curbs that's all and I try to never use the motor brake unless emergency needed. like to put brake system on both my rc's. from my understanding motors use the forward turning stored energy to brake the motor so there's no extra load on the battery or electronics while breaking or no extra wear on the motor but I still feel like it's bit hard on the motor...
just noticed in a pic of the toro esc I ordered besides the fan port and programming card port on right side hidden under the 12 awg wires input is a A , B , & C, ports marked with + and - marks... yep my missing added extra ports for fans, winches, light bars, ect. lol ohwell I was goin to buy the light kit anywho and I do feel better pulling the extra voltage load somewhere else other than esc. Figure even though it's fan cooled it works hard enough turning the drive motor and servos. ordering all the rear and front blue anodized aluminum links, turnbuckles, rear links and rear link frame mounts along with aluminum servo mounting bracket and steering slide rack setup. also the front shock 45° bracket pieces all from China. little worried now for the plastic gearing once the rear links are replaced with metal and no longer will there be the plastic ones to bend and flex to absorb the tourqe load stress. once everything is solid without flex the torque load will focus on the next weakest points, the plastic gearing, twisting driveshafts which I've already done once after the synthetic grease job, melting rubber off the wheels, ect. lol won't go that far huh....
Hi there . Im waiting on my wl12428 to get delivered. I know it comes with the 540 brushed motor.but have any advice on what BRUSHED motor i could buy what would have more power than the standard 540.id like to go brushless but i cant aford to do a brushless transplant. Exelent vidio btw u got me subed haha
I'm not sure how many turns the stock 540 motor is in the 12428. I'm also not sure of how many amps the ESC can handle. So while it is possible to put a lower turn motor in I do have a bit of a feeling that the ESC won't really be able to handle it. I've seen a few people saying they burnt out the ESC with the stock motor. I'd advise not putting in a more power full motor.
Void X RC yeah I follow the links after asking the question and it’s to short😒 only issue to have black body is to find the 12428c but since now I never found it. So I will keep the green tubular body 😕 thanks for the answer and the links because I was about to buy a fy body for my wltoys !!!
Void X RC even with cooling fan hey! what about changing motor pinion and remounting the motor, which actually I plan on drilling slots in the motor mount so I can slide the motor side to side. simple problem fixed! Idk I also do don't mind staying close to stock tire size, even next size up should be ok, motor pinion should help I would think. I've ordered a flir infared thermometer for checking temps, also use it for my job when I get back to work. this week I'll order the front and back metal links and stuff, hope it all fits together nicely. sure I'll have to use my pneumatic grinder somewhere along the line.
I should say I'm not saying it won't work, I tend to run things conservatively. Also you are using good 1:10 scale stuff in a pretty light 1:12 vehicle so it's not like it has a ton of weight to move either. 3S on a 4000kv is not unheard of or anything like that either. One thing I do know though is the plastic diffs won't last that long under hard 3s use. I should also add that when I said I run things conservatively I meant basically just the electronics. My driving style/throttle usage lends it's self to long life of parts. I hope what you want to do does work cause that'd be awesome! The only way to really know is to try it out!
Void X RC I'm the same exact way as far as being easy on the throttle and the overall vehicle itself. surprisingly the center and rear diifs I checked don't even look like they been used so as of today they been holding up real well to the 540 motor but I knew all that would probably change soon as I go brushless. I do really want to get another good high discharge 2s lipo for probably my daily driver fuel and only use the 3s on the weekends, lol. that and timing and throttle punch will be left down maybe once I start weighing it down with more aluminum upgrades and wheels I can than turn it up some. I'd rather get longevity out of motor and lipo and run slower trail runs than high speed just slamming it into everything under the sun. hate spending all that time building just break it the same day ya know. crap I don't even like using the motor brake. Yeah I think you sold me on a easier lipo for the majority of my trail runs and such, think that will help the gearing till I can get fiayue or some other crawler front and rear diffs. anywho appreciate it once again.
Thanks! I knew there were a couple of things I forgot to mention in the video. The slipper clutch will definitely help make the Feiyue better for bashing as there is less chance of grinding up the gears on impacts. Now that the weather is finally getting better here I will be taking the WL toys 12428 out for some good bashing soon and will have more information on how it performs.
Does the feiyue have full metal gears? I got the wltoys and the front suspension got stuck when I tried going over something small. It bent the metal plate and destroyed the gears. I want to get the feiyue and convert it to brushless with a racer star system from banggood.
hi, my fy03 radio controller was broken and cant fix it, can you suggest any other controller other than its stock controller? If i change radio should i change its esc too? what are the other parts that i should change? tnx
The thing with the feiyue is if you want to change the radio you have to change the servo and ESC, you could keep the brushed motor and get a brushed motor ESC. If you are going to do that though, I would suggest getting a new brushless motor and brushless esc so you can have better performance out of it. This is a great radio for the price, I would definitely recommend: bit.ly/2vmagut For the servo I use this one in my 2 feiyues, I recommend over the servo banggood has listed as an upgrade as it has more power and is faster: bit.ly/2siIpXW For a brushless motor/esc combo I use the 3600kv option here: bit.ly/2tajwOj You could also use the 4500kv option and get a lot more top end speed. But it is prone to flipping at higher speed when turning. If you just want to replace the radio and esc but keep the brushed motor here is a brushed esc that would work: bit.ly/2wCb9yB If you have any other questions just ask.
The 12428 weight is more because it has metal ballasts opposite side of the motor. Fy03 doesn’t have the 4 L shaped metal plate stacks opposite the motor.
- the wheel on the radio of the eagle 3 can flip to the other side for left handed control. the Wl toys is labeled waterproof (resistant) I wonder if the electronics from the wl toys can be used in the eagle 3.
Yes you can use the WL toys electronics in the eagle 3. Question though, where have you seen the 12428 labeled waterproof? Genuinely curious as the manual says to never run it in the rain or let it run through puddles or near lakes, rivers and ponds.
Thanks! I did see that thread already as I had linked it in the video description. My be I should take the 12428 down to the creek and see how waterproof it really is!
I've heard rumours from others online that the 12428 isn't waterproof. In my experience, it technically wasn't because I did get some issues after some running in the rain...however, I would still say it's "water resistant", because it didn't start giving me trouble until about 4 or 5 full speed passes through a very big, very deep puddle (like, 20-25 ft wide, and at least 2-3 inches deep). I will say it did start working like normal after it dried. So I wouldn't recommend submerging it completely or anything....but I think it'd be fine in a little bit of rain, damp grass, or even crossing a shallow creek on the trail or something.
sweet thanks but only one question i know i asked like "can i put other bodys on it" but can i put a 1/12 scale body any body on it? cause im use to swiching up my trucks once in a wile and can i upgrade it so if i hit a tree or my barn it wont explode into parts "what i mean is it wont get busted as easy"
I've never personally put a different body on it so I can't say for sure but I'm pretty sure you can just get the body posts for the feiyue fy01 and use them on the feiyue fy03, then you'd have good mounts for swapping bodies.
ok fy03 few thats nice cause i can get one on amazon thanks oh yea and i need to ask something what parts are more likely to brake or need replaceing "cause i dont have a lot of cash" so if you can tell me what spare parts i will need that will be nice
The only parts that I have broken so far on my feiyue was the rear diff, and that was only because it rolled down a very steep hill and hit a tree. I can see the front a arms being one of the weak spots though, but like I said I haven't broken anything under normal use.
On this Feiyue I had a spare axial driveshaft that I used. On my other Feiyue I have one of the upgraded Feiyue drive shafts. www.banggood.com/Feiyue-FY-01FY-02FY-03-Upgrade-Rear-Wheel-Transmission-RL-RC-Car-Spare-Parts-p-1084002.html?p=AF261224072852015082
Hey, It's more for speed. The brushless motor is the big one, it's just not good for crawling as they don't have good low speed performance. The metal body panels do look pretty nice though
@@VoidXRC Thank you for your promt reply. I've discovered that there are 2 slightly different FY03H models on banggood.com: with brushed motor and with brushless motor. Which one is more interesting or durable to your opinion? I don't have any experience in such rc buggies.
I have owned 2 of the brushed versions(both I converted to brushless later on) and I have not owned the metal bodied brushless version. with that said I would think the brushed version is going to be more durable. The reasons are a brushed system doesn't have as much power and will be easier on the drive system. Also the brushed version should be lighter with out the metal body panels and the smaller tires, so less weight when crashing. You can also do some crawling with the brushed one too. As for interesting I'd personally think the brushless one is with the metal panels but I'm biased as I had the brushed ones before. I'm actually gonna be converting my fy06(6 wheeled version) back to brushed so I can crawl better with it. It is a bit of a tough call to make, also sort of depends on what you want out of it. Brushless would be much better for going fast. Though also when you add in the cost the brushed one does look good again too. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
@@VoidXRC Ok. I am more inclined to buy the brushless version because of the durable and fast motor. In addition, most RC cars owners, as a rule, update their brushed systems to brushless.

Anyone having issues with the FY 03 390 motor? burned out the stock 390 cooling fan melted. just burned out another motor. While waiting for a replacement 390 (had to buy) I found a 6 volt motor out of a toy ATV vehicle (son out grew it. so i tried the motor. Lacked the speed but made up in power, burned it out. New 390 motor arrived so i'm spending a lot of down time replacing motors with very little run time. Very happy with the car itself not impressed with the motors (390) Will a 540 work in FY 03?
I haven't heard of the 390 motors burning out like that in the fy03 before. Are all of the wheels free spinning fine? It sounds like the motor is having to work harder so it's overheating. Did you change out the wheels to bigger ones? If no to both of my questions then I am not sure. I will pin this comment though so other people can see it easily in case someone knows
@@VoidXRC i have changed the tires but only to the WL green tires. I've run 2 stock lipos 1500 mah batteries and a 2200 2s lipo as well. All 7.4 (burned out ESC on a truggy with a 11.1 lipo so im sticking to 7.4's. Its had plenty of cool down time in between each battery. running it no different then what ive seen on UA-cam. the running its self is basic fields and grass tip overs means it stops while I walk to reset car. i also now have a heat sink with fan hoping it will fit under plastic cover. thanks for the quick reply. im changing out motors today. ill keep you up to date on new motor.
Well the tire change won't affect it but running the bigger lipo will heat up the motor more because of the longer run time. It still seems excessive to me though given what you have described. The motor heatsink and fan will help, I hope that it's enough to keep the motor from burning out.
Use another different motor not just this one you can buy the racerstar one right here ---D www.aliexpress.com then type rc car racer star 4500kv 35A brushless motor like if it worked thanks.
I am very thorn in which one to buy, I like them both a lot. Can someone please answer me on these questions? Which one have upgrades and spare parts widely available? Which one is more suitable for crawling, as that's mainly what me and my boy wanna use it for, but same time wont mind a speedy bash about :) I have also considered the WLtoys 10248 as I like the bigger size and the remote that comes with it. Thoughts on that one? and any other model? Please help me out before I use my money on some junk :) I like to spend between 60-140 British Pounds (up to 170 USD roughly) Thank you very much, good day to you all.
Since I did this video the wltoys 12428 has more options available for it now in terms of parts. I ended up wrecking the diff gears in my 12428, but since then there is now metal gears available for it. I would say that both the feiyue fy03 and the 12428 are pretty equal right now. I do personally like the bigger wltyos 10428, probably a bit more than the 2 smaller vehicles. There are more upgrades available for it as you can use vaterra twin hammers parts on it. I think any of the 3 are a decent choice. if they is anything more specific that you would like to know, don't hesitate to ask!
For crawling the wltoys 10428, It is easily the better crawler. It is also going to be the strongest one out of the 3. The 2 speed transmission it has is very nice for crawling or for a bit higher speed. I also personally think the bigger size is better for crawling. The whole drive train will be stronger on the 10428 too. The one thing I would say is do not shift while moving fast as that could damage the gears.
hey brother, maybe you can help me ,i got a wltoys 949a warrior truck i boight a goolrc second generation cool throttle linkage. engine sound generator, not sure how to hook it up,would you happen to know how to or could you steer me in the right direction to someone who can...thanks
From what I understand I don't think that sound unit can be hooked up to the stock electronics of the wltoys 949a. The stock electronics are a combined receiver/speed controller. To hook the sound unit up it needs to be plugged in between the receiver and the speed controller which you can't do with a combined unit. The only way I know to make it work would be to get rid of the stock receiver/speed controller and replace them with separate hobby grade ones. You'd have to replace the servos too though. You can get a new radio/receiver, speed controller and servos for about $60US.

DIMITRIOS GYLTIDIS @ Glad you posted this Dimitrios , just bought the same part for the 12428 , I was hoping the part would fit the 12428 and now you have confirmed it for me , thanks 🙏🏻
Very good review and comparison ... I think I will be getting the FY03 because of run time, a few of the design features and the features of the controller
Thanks for watching! The fy07 is about $11USD more than the fy03 on banggood. I think the fy07 is a better buy. It would cost a lot more than $11 to turn the fy03 into a brushless one.

I believe the esc on the Wltoys 12428 over heats because it has no heatsink on it. I and others experience the buggy just cut out after a hard run. Also it's too bouncy cause the shocks are not oil filled. I tried putting some grease in them but that doesn't dampen them any so the shocks would need to be switched out for oil dampen ones to be a decent runner..
The stock 12428 shocks are actually oil shocks but there's no seals in them. I put seals in mine and filled them with oil and the car is no longer bouncy.
Thanks man .im just trying to get as informed as i can as iv been out of the rc game sins 2005 and last built rig in 2001 which was my tl01 .o have times changed haha. My bro is getting the egal03 and i the wl version .thanks again and please more vids man haha
Hrmm, there shouldn't be any wobble with the tires. Mine has zero wobble on the rear wheels and just a little bit of steering play on the front. Have you tightened down the wheel nuts?
the wltoys automaticly cuts out around after 6 minutes for the safety of the motor...(i does get preety hot)...if you stop running for 5 minutes you will have a lot more battery to use..
You don't need to put in a 540 to get some speed. A good 390 size 3600kv - 4200kv brushless motor will significantly improve top speed. I run 3100kv motors myself because I prefer to have more torque. Even just switching out the stock brushed motor and a faster brushed motor would give more speed too. Although I'm not sure how fast of a motor that the stock ESC could handle. That said I have seen one fy03 that was modded for a 540 motor, not the most practical mod but cool non the less.
I just finished installing this ultra cheap combo and on 3 cell lipo it easily does 50mph www.banggood.com/2845-Motor-31003930KV-Sensorless-Brushless-Waterproof-35A-ESC-RC-Car-Parts-p-1059800.html?rmmds=myorder
My wl toys goes 50 km\h and my battery lasts for 6mins at full speed and 30 mins at mid speed The other regulator below the steering regulator, is for the speed regulator It's the same buggy not another one!
@@zombie.cycles I changed its wheels which are probably lighter and its front and rear diff which may have a different gear ratio. And that's probably why it goes till 50 km/h in a very flat and straight road. It usually averages at around 45-49 under full load. It might have been a newer model at that time. And i rewatched the video and mine has a different motor.
Thanks man . Think ill just use it for a bit then rip its guts out and put a brushless setup into it. Thanks agin .more vids on ya 03 and wl please haha
How fast does the feiyue go? And how fast does the wltoys go? Which is better? I’m not sure which is more durable and long lasting. But I still like more speed. If the feiyue goes 20mph or more, than I’m happy. If the wltoys goes more than 25 or 30mph that is even better. Because I have an rc car that goes about 10 - 15mph and it is just too slow for me :( I need a good rc car. By the way, I think the feiyue is cheaper than the wltoys on eBay. I’m still not sure though. Can someone please help me choose which one is the best? THX :)
It's been quite awhile since I have had a stock feiyue, but going off the top of my head I think the feiyue did around 33kph/20mph. the wltoys is about 40kph/25mph if I remember correctly so it's faster. The feiyue is more durable than the wltoys though in my opinion.
I'm loving my fy03 with it's full metal gears in both diffs. In my opinion that's the way to go and just slowly upgrade it. Mine's going brushless soon that kit is on it's way.
Aaron Wiggs this one can take take a nice beating. been using it everyday since purchase and its absolutely fun and durable. tons of crashes and nothing broken. hell i dont even clean it and still works like the first day.
Thank you very much for watching! You can also find me over at twitch! www.twitch.tv/voidxspaces
pro trick: watch series on Flixzone. Been using it for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Javier Kannon definitely, been watching on Flixzone for years myself :)
Finally someone made a vid of feiyue vs wltoys
Thanks!
Almost happy when I break them, that's when the fun begins,
Yes I agree :D
Are the cages interchangeable? I've got a 12423 (shortcourse version of the 12428, same chassis different bodies) and i want to swap it to a buggy so i can take it off road without having to worry about the tires rubbing. I like the fieyu cage better because it's black, but i'm not too sure it'll fit.
The wltoys cage is taller than the feiyue one so the feiyue doesn't sit properly on the wltoys. It is pretty close though, I believe most of the attachment points fit except for the screws on the bottom of the chassis as the feiyue cage doesn't reach down far enough.
@@VoidXRC thank man!
*thanks*
hello, whats slipper clutch function??? i think i choose feiyue no problem with a speed can upgrade to brushless, and the cvd change to metal?? answer my question ok thx :)
The slipper clutch means that the spur gear has some slip in it, so on a hard landing the gear is less likely to be damaged.
Void X RC thx so much
I'm about to order the skyrc cheetah 4000kv brushless motor esc combo with program card. what's your opinion honestly if known about the product. I really like the power switch built rite into the esc and the ability of timing. it has sensored motor. or should I spent a little more on something else
Hey there. Any link to the taillights you've mounted to the FY03?
nice review ! you didn't said nothing about the quality of the plastic , witch one is better ?! I heard that the wltoys plastic is very elastic ....
I will be getting quite a bit more run time with it soon and I will make an update about it.
i love the value and price of the wltoys, but the gears all broke and the metal replacements are binding up. kind of a bummer. any suggestions?
I've managed to fix binding gears by sanding them down. you usually don't have to remove too much material to get them working well. does it feel like the gears are binding or in spot or binding everywhere? I do wish they had better quality control on the parts.
@@VoidXRC it is binding all the way around. i will try sanding them down with a file this weekend.
@@basketballcoachmike a friend of mine, a mechanic, used to use toothpaste which is mildly abrasive to break in fishing reels. That might work in this situation? w the high RPMs me thinks it has a good chance, or that is if the quality isn't too far out of specs.

I'd take the feiyue fy03 over the wltoys 12428
hi mate i need your advice
gearbest shipt my wltoys to the wrong address and wanted me to pay for their mistake
after a lot of trash talk I got them so far to give me a full refund but did already by spare parts lol knowing the rear and front diff fails a lot
and that's why i'm thinking about getting the Fy03 kit and do a brushless upgrade but I see a gearbox in the FY03 and wonder how well that works? and can it handle the power of a 540motor?
which of the two cars do you thinks is better quality and can handle the most speed?
by the way, how do you control the gearbox is done by a servo?
really wonder how to set it up on my radio (turnigy 9xr pro) yes I'm old skool I grow up with 2 channel stick radio.. no steering wheel never liked it and never while lol
Thanks agin mate your advice is spot on
Unfortunately you can't as the ESC and receiver are one unit. I don't know of any other receivers that would bind to the stock transmitter either.

Hi , just got the 12428 from eBay , it came with a metal skid pan on the bottom of the front of the car and when I disassembled the diff it had metal gears ! Maybe there’s been an upgrade from Wltoys for the 12428 , I’ve since seen both 12428s with and without the metal skid plate at the front in numerous UA-cam videos , anyone have any input ?
Have you found a source for printable 3d parts for either of these?
@@VoidXRC thanks man
what about backing off the timing thru the card and or on the back of the motor. it has a program card and sensored on back of motor. I plan on backing everything down for awhile to break in the motor easy, plus I'm always easy on my rc's most I jump is curbs that's all and I try to never use the motor brake unless emergency needed. like to put brake system on both my rc's. from my understanding motors use the forward turning stored energy to brake the motor so there's no extra load on the battery or electronics while breaking or no extra wear on the motor but I still feel like it's bit hard on the motor...
the Tamiya blackfoot and subauru brat bodies fit perfect on the feiyue !!
Nice! Might have to look into getting one of them.
just noticed in a pic of the toro esc I ordered besides the fan port and programming card port on right side hidden under the 12 awg wires input is a A , B , & C, ports marked with + and - marks... yep my missing added extra ports for fans, winches, light bars, ect. lol ohwell I was goin to buy the light kit anywho and I do feel better pulling the extra voltage load somewhere else other than esc.
I'd advise not putting in a more power full motor.
hi I just want to know how do it turn and how do the a arms work
Hi ! the tubular pipe on feiyue is compatible with the wltoys ?
Do you mean the body/roll cage? I think they are a big too different
Void X RC yeah I follow the links after asking the question and it’s to short😒 only issue to have black body is to find the 12428c but since now I never found it. So I will keep the green tubular body 😕 thanks for the answer and the links because I was about to buy a fy body for my wltoys !!!
Ciao, sono interessato all acquisto di una rc...quale delle due mi consigliate?Grazie
haven't gotten bigger tires yet. you think 17 tooth pinion will work out ok with 4000kv on 3s?
I personally wouldn't use the 4000kv motor on 3S, I think it will probably heat up too much. Specially if you are going to put on bigger wheels/tires.
Which one should I get?
the feiyue has a slipper clutch and the wltoys did not! is the feiyue more durable for bashing ( with other shocks?)
Toni L 「案
one has a 390 and the other a 540
Toni L which is better for off-road?
does the eagle 3 automatically come with the lights installed or did you have to install them yourself
The eagle 3 doesn't come with the lights, I installed them myself.
hi, my fy03 radio controller was broken and cant fix it, can you suggest any other controller other than its stock controller? If i change radio should i change its esc too? what are the other parts that i should change? tnx
The thing with the feiyue is if you want to change the radio you have to change the servo and ESC, you could keep the brushed motor and get a brushed motor ESC. If you are going to do that though, I would suggest getting a new brushless motor and brushless esc so you can have better performance out of it.
This is a great radio for the price, I would definitely recommend: bit.ly/2vmagut
For the servo I use this one in my 2 feiyues, I recommend over the servo banggood has listed as an upgrade as it has more power and is faster: bit.ly/2siIpXW
For a brushless motor/esc combo I use the 3600kv option here: bit.ly/2tajwOj You could also use the 4500kv option and get a lot more top end speed. But it is prone to flipping at higher speed when turning.
If you just want to replace the radio and esc but keep the brushed motor here is a brushed esc that would work: bit.ly/2wCb9yB
If you have any other questions just ask.
The 12428 weight is more because it has metal ballasts opposite side of the motor. Fy03 doesn’t have the 4 L shaped metal plate stacks opposite the motor.
- the wheel on the radio of the eagle 3 can flip to the other side for left handed control.
the Wl toys is labeled waterproof (resistant)
I wonder if the electronics from the wl toys can be used in the eagle 3.
Yes you can use the WL toys electronics in the eagle 3. Question though, where have you seen the 12428 labeled waterproof? Genuinely curious as the manual says to never run it in the rain or let it run through puddles or near lakes, rivers and ponds.
Void X RC whoops, I must have been misinformed. I'm almost certain just read it in a review somewhere. I'll see if I can find the link
Thanks! I did see that thread already as I had linked it in the video description. My be I should take the 12428 down to the creek and see how waterproof it really is!
Just found the waterproof logo on the box too. How odd that the manual says something completely different.
Do both model have progressive / proportional steering & speed control please?
They are both proportional in steering and speed.
with the feiyue could i put a diffrent body on it like a trophy truck one?
You can straight up get the feiyue with a short course truck body: bit.ly/2sYxplO
sweet thanks but only one question i know i asked like "can i put other bodys on it" but can i put a 1/12 scale body any body on it? cause im use to swiching up my trucks once in a wile and can i upgrade it so if i hit a tree or my barn it wont explode into parts "what i mean is it wont get busted as easy"
I can see the front a arms being one of the weak spots though, but like I said I haven't broken anything under normal use.
i notice that you changed the shaft on feiyue, what shaft do you use?
On this Feiyue I had a spare axial driveshaft that I used. On my other Feiyue I have one of the upgraded Feiyue drive shafts.

This has helped me a lot my rc bro am gonna go with the WLTOYS thank u dude ;).
Thanks for watching!
I saw in another video about the WL toys buggy that the reason the car cuts out is because the esc or motor is getting too hot
Yes most escs these days have a thermal shut off point for when it is too hot.
Hi bro! What do you think about FY03H (metal body shell, brushless motor, bigger wheels)?
Is it more for speed racing or crawling?

I've been waiting till I wear out my stock gears before I look into getting metal ones. So I haven't really looked into it yet.
The motor heatsink and fan will help, I hope that it's enough to keep the motor from burning out.
use a 2838 brushless -4000 kv - or a more speedy 4500k

Can someone please answer me on these questions?
Which one have upgrades and spare parts widely available?
Which one is more suitable for crawling, as that's mainly what me and my boy wanna use it for, but same time wont mind a speedy bash about :)
I have also considered the WLtoys 10248 as I like the bigger size and the remote that comes with it. Thoughts on that one? and any other model?
Please help me out before I use my money on some junk :)
I like to spend between 60-140 British Pounds (up to 170 USD roughly)
Thank you very much, good day to you all.
I think any of the 3 are a decent choice. if they is anything more specific that you would like to know, don't hesitate to ask!
thank you, which one would you say is best for crawling, slow and strong?
For crawling the wltoys 10428, It is easily the better crawler. It is also going to be the strongest one out of the 3. The 2 speed transmission it has is very nice for crawling or for a bit higher speed. I also personally think the bigger size is better for crawling. The whole drive train will be stronger on the 10428 too. The one thing I would say is do not shift while moving fast as that could damage the gears.
Thank you, I just found the K949, and looks it been replaced by the 10428A.
Yes the k949 version was discontinued. They do have a few different versions of the 10428 though.
Are the body shells compatible ?
They are close to compatible but not quite, with some modding they can probably be made to fit
hey brother, maybe you can help me ,i got a wltoys 949a warrior truck i boight a goolrc second generation cool throttle linkage. engine sound generator, not sure how to hook it up,would you happen to know how to or could you steer me in the right direction to someone who can...thanks
Void X R... cool thank you. could you put a link to where i could buy that on here and thanks again bro..
Here are some parts:

I've actually replaced my Wltoys 12423 shaft with a Feiyue FY02 shaft and it was fully compatible and in fact it works better than the original Wltoys shaft
DIMITRIOS GYLTIDIS @
Glad you posted this Dimitrios , just bought the same part for the 12428 , I was hoping the part would fit the 12428 and now you have confirmed it for me , thanks 🙏🏻
What suspension is on the eagle
This is the suspension on the eagle:
Front shocks: bit.ly/2hV13SY
Rear shocks: bit.ly/2gflEkM
Very good review and comparison ... I think I will be getting the FY03 because of run time, a few of the design features and the features of the controller
Thanks! I do think the fy03 is a better overall vehicle.
Just ordered the FY03 and two extra batteries too, thank you !
which is better wltoy or the other one?
+Rico Ami the feiyue fy-03 is the better vehicle overall.
Can I put a 540 motor in the fy 03?
Nope it's motor mount is too small.
If i was to by one which should i buy
I would personally get the feiyue over the wltoys one. You can also get a Feiyue version that is brushless, The Feiyue FY07.
Void X RC. Is it more expensive? I love yoir video and thanks for reppliying
Thanks for watching! The fy07 is about $11USD more than the fy03 on banggood. I think the fy07 is a better buy. It would cost a lot more than $11 to turn the fy03 into a brushless one.
Would u reccomend a redcat blackout sc?
Also what would your top5 rock crawlers for under 150£ be. Also i subbed
resolveu o problema??????
And finally what is the best?
I personally find the fy03 to be a better overall rc rig
JJRC Q39 can you tell me if its the same car as feiue?
Yes from the looks of it, it is a complete copy of the feiyue.
Ev0ltion i know its a while ago but got the jjrc, its not even a copy! Its a fy03 rebadged! The polystyrene box has feiyue and fy03 moulded into it!
why Win ,feyiui or wltoys?
Feiyue for sure.
Is there any metal diff for the Wltoys?
Btw nice vid :D
There are a couple that I have seen recently, however the front metal diff doesn't use dog bones like the stock one does(at least going from the pictures of it).
Rear diff: www.wl-toys.com/Wltoys-12428-Car-Spare-Parts-00133-03-Upgrade-All-Metal-Rear-Differentials-Assembly-Wltoys-12428-Rc-Car-racing-car-Spare-Parts-Replacement-Accessories-On-Road-Drift-Racing-Truck-Car-Parts-26441.html
Front diff: www.wl-toys.com/Wltoys-12428-Car-Spare-Parts-0092-Upgrade-Front-Differentials-Assembly-All-is-Metal-With-Fan-Shape-gear-Wltoys-12428-Rc-Car-racing-car-Spare-Parts-Replacement-Accessories-On-Road-Drift-Racing-Truck-Car-Parts-26450.html
Nice thank you.
Now I can try the new 4500kv motor :D
I believe the esc on the Wltoys 12428 over heats because it has no heatsink on it. I and others experience the buggy just cut out after a hard run. Also it's too bouncy cause the shocks are not oil filled. I tried putting some grease in them but that doesn't dampen them any so the shocks would need to be switched out for oil dampen ones to be a decent runner..
I agree, specially about how bouncy it is. I actually ended up using part of the chassis from the 12428 on an RC dump truck build.
The stock 12428 shocks are actually oil shocks but there's no seals in them. I put seals in mine and filled them with oil and the car is no longer bouncy.
you're doing exactly what I everytime wanna know! what difference is between both!
Thanks!
Thanks man .im just trying to get as informed as i can as iv been out of the rc game sins 2005 and last built rig in 2001 which was my tl01 .o have times changed haha. My bro is getting the egal03 and i the wl version .thanks again and please more vids man haha
Always glad to see someone get back into RCin! And thanks for watching.
Are any of this Waterproof ??
The wltoys 12428 is water resistant but not waterproof.
nice comparison my friend have fun RCing
+Budget Guy RC Thanks!
are the batteries the same.
Yes they are.
umm does that car still work or no
Which one? The Feiyue is still in great shape, the wltoys is currently partially dismantled for repairs.
i have the wltoys, but tire seems to wobble a bit.
Is it all of the tires that wobble or just the front or back?
All
Actually when i speed up, i cant see any difference? is this normal??
Hrmm, there shouldn't be any wobble with the tires. Mine has zero wobble on the rear wheels and just a little bit of steering play on the front. Have you tightened down the wheel nuts?
I have done that.. But anyway. From your understanding? Which has better built quality feiyue or wltoys?
Can a feiyue body fit a rc 12428
The feiyue body doesn't fit the 12428, it's a bit small
the wltoys automaticly cuts out around after 6 minutes for the safety of the motor...(i does get preety hot)...if you stop running for 5 minutes you will have a lot more battery to use..
Guys witch one should I Get?
I'm leaning towards the Feiyue fy03. Just yesterday I opened up the rear end of the WL toys and it's _all_ plastic gears.
Void X RC Its just so slow though. Is swapping a 540 into the fy03 possible?
You don't need to put in a 540 to get some speed. A good 390 size 3600kv - 4200kv brushless motor will significantly improve top speed. I run 3100kv motors myself because I prefer to have more torque. Even just switching out the stock brushed motor and a faster brushed motor would give more speed too. Although I'm not sure how fast of a motor that the stock ESC could handle. That said I have seen one fy03 that was modded for a 540 motor, not the most practical mod but cool non the less.
I'd just like something a little quicker. I like the WL 12428 but the plastic gears scare me a little. The fy03 seems more durable but is much slower.
My wl toys goes 50 km\h and my battery lasts for 6mins at full speed and 30 mins at mid speed
The other regulator below the steering regulator, is for the speed regulator
It's the same buggy not another one!
How did you get 50??? Mine runs max 38
@@rishgaming9374 thank you for the replay. My 12428 has metal diffs, everything is greased. Motor is the stock 540.
Thanks man . Think ill just use it for a bit then rip its guts out and put a brushless setup into it. Thanks agin .more vids on ya 03 and wl please haha
I want to the fy-03 because my wltoys keeps bracking I have replaced the diffs 5 times so I'm selling it
Yea the diffs are very weak in the 12428
Vietnamese here
The wl toys has a low volt cutoff
mine don't
How fast does the feiyue go? And how fast does the wltoys go? Which is better? I’m not sure which is more durable and long lasting. But I still like more speed. If the feiyue goes 20mph or more, than I’m happy. If the wltoys goes more than 25 or 30mph that is even better. Because I have an rc car that goes about 10 - 15mph and it is just too slow for me :(
I need a good rc car.
Cool. Thanks
I would go for more durable. At least the feiyue can go at least 20mph. Thanks :)
Void X RC could you please explain why feyoue more durable than wltoys?
I'm loving my fy03 with it's full metal gears in both diffs. In my opinion that's the way to go and just slowly upgrade it. Mine's going brushless soon that kit is on it's way.
Thnx for putting
*I still prefer Wltoys 12428*
Awesome :)
Me too
Ihave one
bought the wltoys for looks and bacause is faster. the motor looks sick
Awesome hope you really enjoy it!
Void X RC im enjoying it so far.. its really fun but havent had the chance to take it to the park or to an open area..thanks.
arai Smith how is it running
Aaron Wiggs this one can take take a nice beating. been using it everyday since purchase and its absolutely fun and durable. tons of crashes and nothing broken. hell i dont even clean it and still works like the first day.
arai Smith ok thank you im buying one now
isn't it called feiyue and pronounced as few we
I have no idea how to properly pronounce it. so it's really few we ?
for the love of god!
Stop the video and get yourself a drink...
