I can’t believe how noisy this game is - did you used to own one? If so, were you ever allowed to actually play with it?! I can’t imagine it being very popular with anyone’s parents! 😂
I didn't have this one, however many of these games were popular when I was 12-14 and a speed swimmer. And pretty much every one of us had a game like this or two that we would swap amongst us. Football, baseball, hockey ... both single player and the "head to head" versions. I can't even fathom how many batteries we went through each weekend.
@scotthodgins7975 We did the same - I remember the ‘rich kid’ at school who had all the latest, most expensive games but would never swap because he didn’t want to play our cheap knock-offs 😂
The algorithm be blessed. Never owned one but I have memories playing this as kid. Tomy just one motor to drive everything is really slick. Btw: Subscribed! I love honest repairs.
I didn’t have one either - far too expensive for my parents I imagine! Really ingenious engineering by Tomy for a toy. Thanks for the subscription - appreciate the support 😀👍
My older brother had this exact machine. We played the crap out of it. I own a 1980 Xenon Pinball I restored myself. I'm an arcade technician and arcade machine collector for the last 30 years
Wow, that’s awesome - restoring an original Bally is way more impressive than my little repair of this game, well done!👍 Would love the space for a collection of arcade machines - I grew up in arcades and spent far too much pocket money on Scramble, PacMan and Spy Hunter 😂
@@DistinctlyAverageRepairsI tried to repair exactly the same flipper today. After opening, cleaning and checking I closed it again so I was wondering how to play without the flippers 😂 saw them again after closing.. so I laughed as I saw your flippers being in the wrong direction.. But after nearly 3 hours I am tired and the machine only makes a constant beep-sound without that motor-noise and action. I didn't know about that function until I watched your very good video.. 👍🏼 But for today it's enough for me. Maybe your technical knowledge is better than mine - is it possible to install a new motor here? Would be sad, not to get this old machine running.. but there is one difference between your and my flipper, my only needs 4 big batteries. But everything is the same. Happy new year!
It’s an easy mistake to get the flippers the wrong way! 😂 You can definitely fit a new motor and it isn’t that hard but these little motors tend to be quite reliable so it might just need a bit of help to get it started. If you look at the pinball machine as if you were going to play it, the motor is on the right-hand side under a plastic cover. I would try turning the end manually and see if that gets it started. If you have a multimeter, you could check if the battery power is actually getting to the motor (in case the switch is faulty or there is a break in connection somewhere). Again, if you are able, try connecting power directly to the motor to see if that starts it up. As for the different number of batteries, you have a slightly newer model and I have worked on one of these before - check out my other videos - but they are basically the same in terms of motor/gears etc. Good luck, hope you can get it fixed 👍
More than 35 years later I still have it here in Argentina. It worked well for the first few months and then the counter, music and bounces stopped working.
That’s awesome! It might be something easy to fix - have a watch of this video which looks at another Atomic pinball - it was a really easy repair, your one might be similar? ua-cam.com/video/nBLvRD9Ibwo/v-deo.html 👍
@@DistinctlyAverageRepairs I saw it. Great videos! Congratulations on your work. As far as I'm concerned, changing batteries is already a challenge. ☺️
Oh cool - I actually wasn’t sure if it was worth using TikTok and I’m still undecided - it’s all a bit frenetic for me over there! 😂 Glad you found us!
Damn. This brings back some old memories. I remember having a similar one to this. It was pretty neat. I dont remember it being as loud. I had a different version of this. It was made by Tomy. I think it used 3 D cells though. Very neat!
Tomy brought out a newer version of this game which was black and ran on 4 D cells. I’ve actually just purchased one which will be featuring in a future video - I have a little ‘upgrade’ planned for it… watch this space 👍
Really noisy! And yes, they went through batteries super-fast. In my latest video, I converted one to run on USB-C - no more batteries! (But still just as noisy!)
Memory unlocked! That is crazy! This thing was awesome. I would play until I rolled over the score. This reminds me how much I want to find a working triple arcade by Fisher's price.
I had an improved version of this (Tomy Astro Shooter). I like how the whole thing is powered by a single motor, all compounds are linked together with rods and gears. The electronic board is just for sound.
Yes, I know the version you mean - was it just as noisy? 😂 These were really cool games for their time, even now I had some fun playing on it. Very cleverly designed with the single motor driving everything. And yes, the board is just for the sound 👍
I used to have one I think it was my older brothers I’d always play it when they wouldn’t let me watch my show or it was raining outside and I was bored

@@DistinctlyAverageRepairs That whirring noise is very distinct, especially when the batteries run low, it starts to get scary 😳
@@namco003 Ah man, you mean it’s going to get worse?! 🙄😂
As a divorced father of two, these were the types of toys I would buy my kids to take home to their mother's house.
@johnsimpson99 😂 Brilliant!
"Did you own this?" I did and my mom threw it out within a week.
Sorry to hear that - I guess she couldn’t stand the noise any longer 😔

I must admit that thing looks really good for being an old toy.
Definitely one of the best old games out there… (if you can tolerate the noise!) 👍
8:27 I was like "Oh no, the flippers are the wrong way around and you're already putting it all back together again!"
Haha, good spot - I don't know what I was thinking! 🤦♂️

It’s not always calm behind the camera but I try to leave the stress out 😂 Thank you so much for your support, it is really appreciated.👍

It’s part repair and part ASMR. Perfect!
I almost forgot I had this exact same model years ago. Thank you.
You are most welcome - thank you for watching 👍

I have directly connected a 9v power brick into mine, I have saved a fortune in batteries 🤗
Is it even louder with the extra power going through it?! 😂 👍
@ I can only hear it when I take my earplugs out! 🥸👍
😂

I remember this from my childhood. It's fun to play, but it was so loud.
So loud - I almost jumped out of my chair when I first applied power to the motor and it fired up! 😂
Yes I owned one back in '81. Yes it was noisy. Yes it took too many batteries, but lots of fun.
De donde sacas esos juguetes, ni de niño lo veia, son fantásticos, ni de broma ahora juegan así si.
Thank you, I buy everything on eBay, it’s full of wonderful stuff! 👍😀

Now there’s a challenge - can I roll over the score before the batteries run down! Ah the Triple Arcade - another memory unlocked! 👌
I once had it, but lost it somewhere
Yo aún lo conservo. Me lo regalaron a principios de los años 90, en España. Sólo me faltan las patas de plástico. Algún día las imprimiré en ABS.
Yes, the legs are often missing - I have another version of this game in black with one missing leg…

I used to have one of those a long time ago.

I'm sorry but how could this device possibly need that many batteries? I'm so confused.
I know - I paid more for the batteries than I did the game! 😂
That constantly running motor needed plenty of battery to keep it running for a reasonable amount of time
I used to have the pin ball machine
i had that exact toy. but mine was from the 90's
one of the best none video game toys i ever had.
I think they actually made these up until the early 2000s. I would’ve loved one as a kid, as you say, one of the best ‘not a video game’ games 👌
No, but I had a Mortal Kombat one. It was a cheap one that didn’t have bumpers like thst
Yes
yeah i had one
