Listen to Maurice Andre playing Carnival of Venice....Every note he plays is musical, not like somebody who is rushing along at top speed like so many others. He makes this difficult piece sound leisurely and unhurried.
His articulation is sooo beautiful. It's what makes it sound crisp and clean compared to others who play it.......not that they play it bad or anything like that.
@clinnyp There is an old saying that many attribute to Abraham Lincoln that you might want to remember...." 'Tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."
That very same concert was an awful mess for MA: His trumpet case had been stolen the night before, and the only thing he had been able to borrow locally was a Scherzer piccolo. First time he ever played on a rotary picc., with an unfamiliar mouthpiece, a substitute organist who had arrived late so no previous rehearsal... just a matter of "Let's go!". Together, they made an awful hash of things. MA insisted on the tickets being refunded, and as it was a charity gig, paid for that himself...
Manuel Teixeira Halo there everybody I Iwant to give thanks to the musuciens, who have put such an effort, to perform this good piece of art. let´s also behold other wonders, like what someonne did, about the bigest debt tha he payed for me and you, please. Because music is about victorious love and Faith, Truth and Perfection. There are about twenty astronomic physics constants that keep the entire infinite universe as one balanced reality, in wich we are without asking to be born in! I, rather chose to be alive and exist then not to be, of course! I truly believe on the good purpose in life, dispite evil existence. There must be an explanation for that! My mother loved me, and her love doesn't come from the rocks. The main reason being, that geologists don't even know the granite's origin! The greatest Love is God's Love, revealed in giving His Begotten SON, to live, suffer and die, as a man of sorows, with a sinless life. Jesus came into our world, to reveal and vindicate, God´s Character and save mankind from evil and death's condemnation, I mean, whosoever accepts jesus's life as a mean to be pardoned and stay on The Way, tha Truth and the Life, Whom He is. There was a man named Simon, who once, invited Jesus to have dinner, at his house, on Betânia. This man, wanted, just give a fair retribution, for being healed from leprosy, by Jesus. There, came in also a prostitute! Simon thought to himself, that if Jesus were, realy, a prophet, he certainly would know, the kind of women she was, while receiving her attention and care! Jesus, didn't repulse the women following the social standards accepted on those days, in palestine. Instead, he accepted the women's attention, and kind behavour, on pouring an expensive alabaster ointment into Jesus's head and feet, and drying them up, with her hair. The disciples, including Judas, condemned her, saying:- « this ointment shoud be sold and the money given to the poor ». Jesus answered them:- « why are you being harsh to her? She is doing a good thing, preparing me for my burial! Judas went out from there, to betray Jesus. Simon kept a strong impression from the Holy Spirit, Who inspired Jesus to give such a deep meaning, to the women's spontaneous love expression. He also heard an Eternal Prophétic declaration, from The Divine Master: - « Verily I say unto you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in whole world, that this women hath done, be told for a memorial of her.» Faith, love and acts of spontaneous kindness, go alongside with true testimony, revealing The True disciple, and the Truth Who Jesus is. Ámen! It's important, while we are on life's trip, to know where are we, where did we come from, and where are we going to! There are aroud twenty constants in the Universe's fisics, which mantain it on a fine, very precise tune, preveening life's colapse! I prefer to be thankful, having faith, hope and love, like Jesus's Way offers! To know Jesus is all we need! If we truly look for Him, as Llife's water.
Most other soloists would have stopped and restarted. Not MA. he fought to the end, smiled, and commented to the audience that he was sorry that at his advanced age he was not a speed merchant anymore...
@clinnyp Comparing these two trumpet players is truly very stupid. They are different players and cannot be compared as such. Different players have different influences, ideas, and goals. Once you get to this level its no longer about being better, it's about being who you are as a musician. I personally prefer Maurice's sound over Wynton's, but I would never choose one over the other as a better player. Being better for amateurs; the pros just be themselves.
The difference between and every other trumpetist is, he lives the Trumpet. Trumpet + André seemes to be kind of a symbiose. As skitrumpet already said, there is no need for show at all, if you are as skilled as he is... just amazing
@SchwarzeDose21 Even though Maurice André was the greatest trumpet player of the 20th century, he never behaved like the typical "star". To be able to reach more people, he accepted gigs with mediocre orchestras and even more mediocre conductors... always deferring to the conductor's wishes and ideas. That led him into trouble more than once. I remember a concert of his iwhere the organist started off at racing speed, and accelerated until MA just could not follow any more....
Am I the only one who thinks this is a tad too fast? He plays it perfectly, he is a brilliant trumpeter, but I think the speed at which this is played is just a touch too fast, so it loses some of its musicality. That is just my humble opinion however.

Listen to Maurice Andre playing Carnival of Venice....Every note he plays is musical, not like somebody who is rushing along at top speed like so many others. He makes this difficult piece sound leisurely and unhurried.

The speed, the clarity, the tone...what a master he was. (I do like the phrasing by Alison Balsom on this piece, too.)
When I show my students Maurice Andre, I follow it up with '...the Godfather.'
Le talent récompensés par le travail. Patrick Grüss.

Maurice André You're my favorit trumpetplayer
It lookks so easy to him. It s like he is playing the notes before he pushes the vave for the note. Incredible!
Stupendous. Perfection.
He makes that look effortless. Check out use of the 3rd valve turning slide at 1:18.

@clinnyp fat chance not ever
Baby seal fat :D
Maurice Andre's ability was astonishing.. one of a kind....but he's not at pretty as Tine Thing Helseth. lol
SpeedyNeutrino43 DON'T YOU THINK THAT'S AN UNFAIR COMPARISON?!!

IAlreadyHaveAKey fast or not hé was the best ever. When you listen to alisson balsom it seems too slow but with a great sound.
IAlreadyHaveAKey "...you can't please EVERYBODY!!"
this is way freakin better than the chick that did this song
i think its too fast, not really enjoyable in this tempo
too fast. not very musicaly.
Baaderino ...WELL, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT- YOU DON'T HAVE TO EAT IT!!!
Way, way too fast!
