Loving this, so glad I stumbled upon this album. It's rare to find albums like this anymore that aren't played to death!
one of the most important album of the 80's
Totally agree
I absolutely adored this.
I was a big Bauhaus fan but I played this more
Flipping Hell - I am discovering a whole diamond mine this morning! We need a TV documentary about these fantastic bands, I cannot believe something as well crafted as this slipped the history of music net - there again the industry is about pile em high (even if it's rubbish - like the big screaming non talent of today, "A"...). Thankfully we have UA-cam and the power of association recommendations😍
Agreed. There is great music hiding from every generation. You just have to spend a little time to weed through all the 'noise' to discover ~ or rediscover it.
I was little too young and lived in Japan when they were most active, but knew and had albums.
There were several bands like those along Virgin Prunes or Gene Loves Jezebel or Bolshoi etc that slightly missed huge break. I guess marketing or press or Top of The Pops didn't know how to address them or pigeon boxed into 'Goth' or 'Positive Punk' or whatever, but those were original and refused to bunched together. However they had own successes and everything good often have to come to an end like shooting stars... Ah!
Haven't heard this album in almost 30 years - thank you!
+David Rothwell whernt you ken barlows brother in corrie a few years ago ?
+david beckett sorry not me!
+David Rothwell I£ do agree!
Reminds me of the funeral Saturday party in Bassano (Italy) in 1986 ... until 2 am Thanks for endless memories
☻👏For Me The Best Goth Album The Best Goth Band Thank You🖤👏 Forever The Danse Society
The Danse Society should have been a big deal back in the 80's. They had it all a big dark beautiful grandiose mysterious sound of their own with great art-work on their record sleeves. They were good looking dudes with a fucking great vocalist. They could have seen off The Bunnymen, The Cure, The Cocteaus and The Sisters all my favourite bands of the time.
completely agree.
Too true .alot of luck in music business I think.
They should have been bigger but glad they were not.
Agreed ✨🖤✨
Definite agree
Maybe us lads up North don’t get a fair deal
Or poor marketing at the time .
I remember Killing joke were at a similar level at the time .
Danse Society were better than Cure and could have been massive they had it all .
a classic of its time, one of the bset
this is there best album I think. masterpiece
Still playing it.
If you enjoy listening to this band an many others like them. Be ready to be "INFUSED". In a few short weeks you will experience and, have the opportunity to be a part of something fresh & totally amazing in music. So please be on the look out for more details as we get closer to show time😉...
So what happened at showtime........lights, camera........aaah!
Los amo los amo. Un chingo
Sempre stupenda
Jestem autorem tej muzyki i właścicielem UA-cam .
This is the type of music that parents hated their kids listening to. They become snotty disrespectful to authority and very negative towards others.
exellent qui pourrait me dire le titre a 38.00 Merci
The Night - www.discogs.com/Danse-Society-Heaven-Is-Waiting/master/12958
I'm only three minutes in but wow, they ripped off joy division...
I agree, that first song, Joy Div!
How this band did not get to be as huge as The Cure or Siouxsie & the Banshees is beyond me...poor marketing perhaps?
Thanks for posting this dark but sparkling album!!! They were ahead of their time!!!
Linda L me to its a masterpiece of work
I knew them around '85 onwards while still in Japan and bought LPs so they weren't that unknown. They etched into my head. But probably the vocal Steve Rawlings left band in '87 or so? Some says he moved to LA then totally disappeared... sad. But still, their music is some of most memorable, haunting, refusing to labelled and utter original.
I totally agree 110%!! Damn great band. I only discovered this band on the Gothic Rock Vol 1 comp on Cleopatra Records in 1994 and then sniffed around some and found all their stuff on vinyl and I was hooked. This album should have been golden or platinum etc. A rare missed gem. I love this release inside and out all day everyday. I used to dj at a local bar venue and this band was always on the playlist sandwiched between all the greats. Very fond memories having fun.
I agree that they're way ahead of their time. This seems to be the model a lot of synth-heavy goth bands followed through the nineties and into the first years of the oughts.
6 years late on this but I think part of it was likely the commercial friendly singles and more specifically they are fronted by very good (technical) unique sounding singers.
One of the best albums I have EVER heard - still sounds amazing today. Such beautiful music.
This band is fucking amazing. One of the best of th 80s... and that is too many words.
I loooooooove them!!!
John Thorne, amazing story. Thank you for sharing. I totally love DS they are one of many of my favorite bands. Not to mention Steve Rawlings was amazingly sexy hot. I say was cause, for the lude of me I can't seem to find any pictures of him now or any other info on him :-(. I think last thing he did was lay down one time tracks at the end of 2010 for the song Towers then he disappeared again per say. Anyways if that was me front center at the show you atteded and,Steve was making eye contact with me. I know I surely would of passed out.Totally love the 80's era!
I have this album, I was obsessed with them (well mainly Steve to he honest...) in 1983/4. I'm also from Barnsley and used to see them around town a lot but despite having mutual acquaintances, I was only 14 and way too shy and awestruck to ever approach any of the band! My friend's husband is now in a band with Lyndon Scarfe though (still never spoken to him, lol).
Scarfe's keyboard parts where always great and added so much to the atmosphere of the tracks.
What is Steve R up to these days?
Absolutely Balearic, Delicatessen, Dark Deep, Smooth, Powerful, Pure & Fine Divine Sound!
This album has a great major label sound to it, courtesy of Arista. So I went through all the comments, and a lot of them say 'why didn't the DS happen big?' Well, it's the sad old almost there quality of the songs. This album sounds divine but what is missing is, the Choruses. Steve Rawlings personality doesn't make it through in the way it should have. I am talking from the perspective of a producer. First song is a Joy Div steal, and where is a great chorus like 'We're so Happy'? I don't know who produced this album but he got everything right except to nail the Steve Rawlings of 'We're so Happy'. I bet Arista weren't happy, and I bet they were off the label soon after. Don't shoot me down, a 100 bands just as good as this died along the way in the same blaze of glory; Fire Engines, Josef K, X Mal, Paul Haig, Play Dead, Crispy Ambulance, Into a Circle. I would consider Gene Love Jezebel to have made it, although there was some weird split that gave us Jay Astons GLJ. No one knows who is going to make it and for how long, thats the X factor and timing, but this is decent, as well as not the album I would have made them make. CHORUSES. They have everything else.
The music was just too dark for many specially in the 80’s. It was a nitch sound.
An excellent album that should have made them 🌟.
David Rothwell - We used to go to Rock City religiously every Saturday & during the week to gigs. we went in October to see the Sisters of Mercy .... first time I'd been in about 26yrs & was like going Home 😊 Loved it! We would have gone at the same time I'm sure.
Saturday night from the early eighties through to 89! Seen so many bands there, sometimes too drunk to see who was on, especially on the all dayers they used to have... happy days. Remembering ASF, GBOA,Play Dead, PWEI, NMA and so many more...
Toute mon adolescence.
This music sounds like something you would hear in a old 1984 Oldsmobile
Their best album.
Sound, songs...
Thank ou for sharing !
This is NOT the full album. Preceding "Come Inside" should be a long, dreamy opening that finally segues into "Come Inside." This upload cuts out that opening. I bought the original album when it first came out. Listening to this upload is like having my memory mugged.
I agree. The intro should have been left in.
@Corvus Delicti - Here it is : ua-cam.com/video/LbrRAsbMZuw/v-deo.html&ab_channel=JohnnyFeron
Absolutely; cutting the intro is ruining what's about to come. It's so wonderful cinematic and enveloping; it immediately cast one's mind back to a dark, mysterious atmosphere. Absolute stuuner.
1984 the year my parents were teenagers and probably drove old cars with spoke tires and wore hair like a microphone 🎤
Never heard of them until now. A great album. Full of darkness and energy
Nearly 40 years old quality stands test of time
Um album de culto.Forever a cult album of music
j'en ai encore des frissons que de souvenirs !!!
Such. An. Amazing. Album.
Under rated band...
When you consider that the danse society performed with naked lunch at a time where these bands had no specific genre, they should have had more recognition. Having said that, they are finally getting their recognition they deserve and known as 'proto goth'. We all called it blitz punk or new wave back in the day and then smash hits of all things termed us moody punks gothic punks. That pissed us off as the only connections we had to graveyards was to drop acid get wasted and piss around without harassment from the police or the casuals/dressers and we certainly were not there to sport frills, candelabras and performing sciences. Ist wave proto goth was more playful/political.
The birth of Darkwave. Near perfection.
Another good Darkwave, Minimal-Synth band is The Shortwave Mystery. Check out their album, 'Signals From Afar'
Not the birth if darkwave.
@godloveszaza to me it was. It was a unique sound amongst the guitar based post punk / goth style bands. DS introduced a more experimental subtle sound based on melody & atmospherics. That to me set them apart & was the genesis of darkwave. Its fine if you think different though. I'd be interested in why you disagree if you'd be so obliging.
NO WAY!!! The birth was much earlier.

What a discovery! Within the same league as The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Chameleons, Simple Minds, etc.
This was the peak of their craft. They should have been big as the rest of the big leagues. Marketing is always a make or break in the 1980s, only a few videos on MTV. Always addicted to the perfect sound.
Awesome absolutely fabulous epic band Steve made this band with his great vocals & band as well new subscriber thanks for uploading this legendary album used to hear cuts from at new wave club!!!! Miss & love u Steve & dudes!!!!👍❤️😻☮️🔥🇺🇸🙀😹
been meaning to check out this band, sounds incredible so far!!
Bought this album in 1984..
I used to love this band, years ago in another life. Great to listen to it again. Still sounds good.

Concordo pienamente.
Watch out band official channel and website www.thedansesociety.com
I recall buying this LP back around 1985. I had recently purchased a state of the art Technics audio stereo receiver with high end turntable and big bookshelf speakers. I cranked this one up and was blown away by the incredible sound, much more exciting and rich than hearing a few of these recordings for the first time on a portable radio. Got to the "2000 Light Years From Home" track and had to admit it sounded better than the Rolling Stones original version, not to criticize the Rolling Stones a group I like a lot, especially the 1966-1969 era of their recordings. Anyway, after hearing this entire recording decided I really got my money's worth, excellent.
2000 light years from home
Goth done well on album never really got a big following do to poorly live performances
.
Just remember everyone, 5 Barnsley guys performed & created this wonderful music, not a talentless woman from Italy who had her chance back in 2011 and failed. If she was that good 3 members wouldn't of left the band in January 2014.
I like how this pretty much sounds like early Swans
❤
Risking everything, Heaven is Waiting. What have you risked?
Wake Up!
Sounds like therapy's? "nurse"
2000 LIGHT YEARS FROM HOME
Old 80's favourite
+Darren John Baguley I used to go to Rock City on Saturday nights for the disco in the early 80's, never forget it. We also saw Bunneymen and Psychedelic Furs there.
Hi David only just saw your comment (3yrs later 😆) We went religiously every Saturday so no doubt rubbed shoulders on the dance floor 😊
Still loving this album. Amazing.
great music here
cool band i love them
Buonissima la cover degli Stones
que grupazooo
Where can I get this album?
+Jack Eleven hopefully on ebay, unfortunately :(
+Jack Eleven The import CD version lacks the intro before "Come Inside". If you can find it on Vinyl or the original CD I would highly recommend it.
Got this brilliant stuff feel old as fuck . Much under rated band compared to other goth esque . bands
utter ripoff of JD, damn
Big joy div fan this is nothing like joy div other than male vocal .sorry. love both btw.
