I like the little canvas board to practice an idea for a bigger painting. Thanks for the lesson.
I always do that it helps sometimes you see me looking to my left on camera that's what I'm looking at
Thank you, Clive! I'm learning a lot from your videos for beginners.
+rita adams thank you that make the hard work worth while
Thank you so much for the lessons on using water color pencils. The water pen is a great idea. I've seen them in my hobby stores here in the US. but didn't know how to use them. I think it's a great idea to sketch out in watercolor before doing a painting. I am going to try this. Thanks again Clive!
I really liked that Clive thank you great idea
+0jayne your very welcome

Hi Clive, THANK YOU so MUCH. That is just what I've been looking for. I've been carrying around my Watercolor pencils but haven't really felt I could do anything with them. What an inspiration you are. Thank YOU! Keep on teaching us everything you can! Love from the USA!
+BA Haven great I'm happy to have helped you love from Wales uk
Brilliant Clive artist vids I've watched and books all say keep a sketch book to paint from but you're the first person to give this meaning to me. It's the simplest things that need explaining to us ordinary folks. Thanks so very much x
thank you in glad it helped
Excellent idea for a smaller version trial. Lots more work but the finished painting will be so much better.
Study paintings are great way to build on a larger painting
I had those magic painting books when I was little. Brings back fun memories. I love how you did the thumbnail and then the board painting. You are genius!!!! Take video of the beaches over there to share with us. I live in Tennessee USA and am not near a beach. Gulf side of Florida has my favorite beach. All are so pretty.
Happy Painting and God Bless.
Thank you again Pam
Thank you I am very new to painting and it great to have everything explained. Also brought back lovely memories of childhood holidays in Tenby.
That’s great I’m happy that you enjoyed and Tenby is a great place

Great thank you
Clive. I have just decided to start painting. I know absolutely nothing about it , but I have been watching your videos for about two weeks now and I am really enjoying watching you paint . You make it look so easy. I have tried a couple of your small paintings, and must admit they haven't turned out too bad. By the way my husband has been an artist now for 16 years and I have never had any interest in painting until I started to watch your videos. You describe everything in such an easy way. Keep painting. Rosemary.
Thank you so much 😊 such a compliment I try and make it easy for beginners to start
Really interesting and informative. Thank you. I love the videos. 😊
Thank you I'm always happy to help
Love the new three way screen layout. I got a magic painting book and jumbo pencil in my Christmas stocking every year! Watercolour pencils are a bit like that 👍
+Pat Kelly they sure are I did also
Thank you Clive, I think you might have solved my brainfog problem.. to keeping what's in my minds eye and getting it on acrylic with a "plan."
A great way to test out an idea this is what I do all the time
great video Clive, love this. I sketch a lot I do a lot of wildlife and horses . artsy hugs from up north, miss the beach's in WALES x :-):-):-)
Thanks I don't sketch as much as I used too but I do love where I live thanks again
Thanks Clive. I had not thought about taking water color pencils in the field. Great idea.
+fireman89406 good if your just going for a walk and don't want to take all your kit with you
Wonderful,👍. Loved the way u explained it. U r great.
Thank you 😊
Sunny but cold day here in Tennessee, USA, did this painting! Thanks Clive!!
Always cold here in wales enjoy the painting
great way to re-use those 'mistakes' I have a few of my own Thank you for reminding us that they are still quite useful
+Nance Sucharski your welcome thanks
that is so cool Clive. I have water color pencils, now I know how to use them properly! Thanks!!
+Peggy Bacher great they are fun to use
A very helpful video. I like seeing your plein air studies. I have several water brushes and they're particularly useful with watercolor pencils.
The world is full of inspiration if you prepare and as you showed it doesn't take many supplies. Many artists do quick sketches outdoors and finish their paintings in the studio. You see the world as a different place when you're capturing the moment in these types of sketches. The little painting at the end looks peaceful; I wouldn't have minded being there. lol. Thanks so much for all your effort.
+Rose Ryan thank you so much rose I'll be doing a study out doors soon
very good job,like this :-)
+Udo Helmts thank you
Thank you for sharing or talent with us

This was very helpful.
Happy to help thank you
Clive, I really enjoyed this lesson, especially the tide pool and Sea Gulls on the ground. I recently painted a still life of wine being poured into a glass. I really like this painting, but I accidently use Alizarin Red watercolor paint instead of acrylic. I did not realize it until I added varnish to the canvas. The watercolor bled over the canvas. I was able to fix the problem by using a dry brush to remove the streaks. I have stopped using the varnish. Should I paint Alizarin acrylic over the watercolor or try and remove the watercolor and then repaint it?
+Will Smith oh to be honest I'm not sure unless I saw the problem you could try but I'm not sure so sorry about that
+CLIVE5ART Thank you for the quick response. I think I will try lifting the watercolor paint slowly off the canvas. I will let you know how it went.
just paint over it. it wont bleed through like permanent inks.
in fact, why would water color bleed all over from Varnish? What kind did you use? I've never had that happen myself.
Hello Clive,
Thanks for the videos, always informative. I have a question, what is the reason for creating highlights on trees and mountains in a painting?
It adds contrast and give a more realistic feel
Hey Clive,
I enjoyed the session. What's the brush which you have used on top of color pencils? Where can I get one of those ? Can you forward me the a link of the same?
Thank you clive for your lesson it has helped me to think more on doing sketches when I get out and about, my next Art purchase is going to be watercolor pencils and I have mostly Derwent products may I ask how are the watercolors in the Derwent range have they a good pigment, are they soft or hard ? and do you know if they are lightfast as some of the other products I have from Derwent are said not to be so, like the Graphitint and Inktense
I go to the Web site of inktens pencils I found that the reds are not as lightfast as I would like, the other colors seem to be OK.
+Maria Kellner good to know thanks
+Judith Cook water colour is not light fast as with the normal watercolours they are fugitive
Thanks
Clive - which brushes did you use for the 5 X 7 painting. I couldn't see the numbers on the handles in the video. Thanks!
I use the same brushes in most videos they are in the descriptions normally 2-4-6
My Hero loves Suzi Q
+Suzanne Hale thank you
I have a QUESTION in this comment. First of all that is a great idea to go to the same place for each season. I am going to find a special place and maybe do just that. I want to find one of those water pens like you have. My question is kind of a stupid one. lol You mentioned in a past video that you can use acrylics like water color. Would it be possible to poor acrylic paint into a plastic palette and let each color dry/harden and then use that like water color paint? I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. :D Thanks so much!
+Susan Bishop um no if you did that you would have a plastic blob what you do is mix it with water store in a air tight pot she before use and off you go use as normal water colours it's basically a wash of colour lessons will be made on this all the best Clive
Thanks so much. A friend wanted me to make a palette up for her because I have acrylics and she doesn't. Wow I didn't realize it turned into a plastic blob! lol :D
Susan Bishop km
Thank you again Clive were do you get those water pens from in the uk please
+TheHodsocks I got mine from the range it's cheaper than hobbie craft about £7 for 3 I think
Ive never that pen watercolor seen this before. I'll jhave to search it at the art store.
+Timothy McDougald you will find then online also you can put colour in the pen not just water
