    I feel the urge to clarify the “periods have tiny baby bits in it” part, just in case! Yes, there are tissue bits in period blood. That’s the uterus lining that builds up each month in preparation for a potential pregnancy. If there’s no pregnancy, out goes the old lining and those are the thicker bits and pieces one can see in period blood.

    • @itakru
      @itakru 3 роки тому +498

      Those can also be caused by too much blood passing through the uterine wall too quickly for the body to expel, resulting in clumps and "clots", which can be indicative of problems like PCOS. If you're passing large clumps on a regular basis throughout your period and it remains very heavy, as opposed to passing small solids for the first day or two, you should see a doctor.

    This reminded me of one time when my cis male friend asked if he could ask me questions about periods that he had always wanted to ask but never had the courage too. I was like, "sure, go ahead!" He asked a number of questions, and then asked what was the worst part of getting your period, like, what hurt the most. I told him that each person has it differently, everyone's experiences with periods are different, but that to me, personally, the worst part is the lower back pain. He then had the guts to reply with, "I disagree. I think the worst part must be the cramps". And I was like "EXCUSE ME? You 'DISAGREE'??" I stg the audacity! I took a deep breath and explained to him that he was mansplaining something that he couldn't possibly know anything about and all that. I tried to be patient, but I swear I wanted to punch him in the face that very moment.

    Okay, so I can explain that drawing. Firstly, it’s just a drawing, so the proportions generally aren’t accurate. Think of our modern fashion drawings- they aren’t accurate proportions either.
    This is from 1894-1896, at the very height of the poof when it comes to sleeves. As for the teeny tiny waist- when women would wear these fashions, it was mostly an illusion. Tight lacing if corsets was pretty rare, generally only done by the Kardashian types of the day, abs even then only for events. Also, if you see a photograph and think “how is that even possible to have a waist that small?” Well, it’s not. They did alter photographs back then. See Bernadette Banner’s latest video for info on that.
    But the illusion comes from having padded busts, massive sleeves and padded hips. You don’t need to tight lace a corset if everything else is already making your waist look a lot smaller in comparison. And women back then were not shy about adding a bit of padding to make their bods look the way they wanted. At the time, it was more about shape than size- and that shape was actually accessible to a lot more women than what current beauty standards are.
    So don’t be too bothered by the drawing. It is already a little exaggerated (as all fashion drawings were and still are), but even then, it’s still mostly illusion.

      I just wrote a reply to someone else about this, so:
      How much body hair you get and how fast your facial hair grows is totally down to genetics, partly inherited, partly luck of the draw. And it changes slowly over time. I'm cis and I didn't have to shave daily until my 40s. In my 20s it was only once a week. My chest hair isn't all that thick.
      And that's totally normal.
      Some guys turn into gorillas within 5 years of hitting puberty, others take a good 10 years to grow all of their body hair. So if you ever have moments when you wonder if T is even doing anything, reread my comment and remember that it takes time even for us cis guys.
      And congrats!

      @@maryasenlin5916 well, it DOES work. For example, in ferrets (and probably a number of other mammal species too), the urethra ends in the vagina, but very close to the opening. So technically, they pee out of their vagina. Just for an extremely short distance though and the vagina itself isn't connected to the bladder ofc.

      @Lady Seashell Bikini I kinda understand the initial confusion of men because they don't have a third hole. Sperm also exits through the urethra. It's still stupid or at least shameful for the education system when adult men (or even women for that matter) don't know better.

    We all have/have had, those "I wonder why..." moments.
    In the past, before google, we used to ask grand-parents, parents, older siblings or friends. If no-one could give us the answer, we used to go to libraries, do research and become informed/educated.
    Now, the proverb 'ignorance is bliss' doesn't apply to lots of people. They're arrogantly angry in their ignorance.

    About the drawing of the Victorian outfit with the Violetest Chachkiest waist. I want to say that women in fashion plates and all were portrayed with tiny waists, but I think they knew it was not realistically humanly possible. As long as they had the good waist/hip ratio, it was fashionable. Also, plus size women were never in fashion plates, but they could achieve the fashionable silhouette thanks to padding. It was all about the shape, not the size.

    The drawing near the beginning is fairly typical for the time period. The artist likely exaggerated the tiny waist, however, corsetry then padded out the hips and bust (more than cinching/ reducing the waist) in order to create the illusion of a tiny waist, when it likely wasn't reduced all that much. Women also used things like bustle pads to make the waist look smaller in comparison.

  • @BMoll87
    @BMoll87 3 роки тому

    The drawing from the 19th century is very similar to modern day equivalents. The waists are always accentuated. It’s not a photo. And even in old photos, people “photoshopped” the negatives to have smaller waists than they actually had.. Bernadette Banner recently did a video of that..

I'm probably the hairiest woman that you know" and she shook her head no and so I asked who was hairier "a girl at my school who's trans gender", she hesitated and said but idk if that counts? " and I said it deffinatly counts haha". And then I mentioned how much I've been liking your channel recently. She hugged me and said "why do some people have to judge others" and I told her it's probably because they're unhappy with themselves and dont know how to deal with that. "Schools used to separate"
    My elementary did. Interestingly, the boys came out of their first day of it looking pale and sickly. Turns out they spent the whole class on menstruation!🤣 They learned about it in much more detail than we did at the time, incredibly.
    As for the girls, we were taught by our confident, butch science teacher.
    She was a mix of very pro-girl and very... weird... about it.
    For example, rather than really explaining menstruation adequately, she spent an entire class having us sit through an incredibly lengthy and detailed projected film of two snakes seducing each other and then copulating. She was very odd and kind of creepy about presenting it.
    We sat in the dark in silence. It was very strange. ( I got called down to the office midway through, and asked my friend afterwards, what did I miss? Nothing, she said, the snakes thing went on and on forever! When it was done we just walked back to class, she didn't say Anything)
    And though we had to learn the whole anatomy diagrams, she taught us very little about the mechanics of the male reproductive system. We did not cover erections, and neither had my family really, so based on my experience of seeing my little baby cousins clearly very squishy penises while I helped with diaper changes, I came away with the impression that the man probably had to fold his flaccid member up and awkwardly tuck and squish it into wherever he needed it to go that day, lol, which seemed awkward and possibly embarrassing. I was both confused AND amused by this idea.
    But our teacher would repeatedly tell us how lucky we were to be girls, how much better it was in every possible way. She would put up the diagrams side by side and say things like, "look how beautiful and streamlined your body is, everything in its place...
    And look at them! Tubes and bags hanging out everywhere!"
    🙁
    Unfortunately, just a few years later, this teacher was transfered to the middle school, and then arrested for seducing a 12 year old girl in one of her classes there.
    My first Sex Ed teacher was literally a sexist child molester! 😬

      The internal organs would be displaced into the chest area and squish everything. Why do you think women would swoon or faint all the time? Their lungs were being squished by the stomach, etc that was being displaced by the use of a corset.

    One that I read on this subreddit that I’ve brought up in real life only to find a SHOCKING amount of cis men who also thought this: periods are just like pee and you should be able to hold them in until you go to the toilet.
    The irl men didn’t believe the “should” part just thought it was possible.

    • @whytho8856
      @whytho8856 3 роки тому +55

      i've seen so many stories of cis men who thought women wore pads & tampons because they were "too lazy" to hold it. like huh??? if periods weren't painful and blood just like pee that we could hold nobody would talk about it, yet some men are rly out here thinking it is🤦🏼‍♀️
      but thinking about it now, i guess it makes sense if they also think we pee out of our vaginas, cause in that case we WOULD have the muscles to "hold in" the blood like pee. dang

      All of a sudden I am very happy to be married to a man who I can have this conversation with:
      “Anything more I should get at the store?”
      “I do need more pads, but I guess you can’t get that, I don’t know what you should buy.”
      “Eh, I’ll just call you when I’m there.”
      “No! That would be sooo awkward. Just buy something with medium protection and wings...”
      And he came home with exactly that. Best husband ever.
      (But I’m still embarrassed that he was going to call me from our small corner store and explain what kinds of pds they had over the phone so I could choose... 😂🙈 That’s being even more comfortable about it than I can handle.)

    The one about our periods containing fetal material got me. I would have thought in the 21st century it would be common knowledge that you get your period because you’re not pregnant so how can it contain fetal material 🤔

    • @we.genuinely.think2882
      @we.genuinely.think2882 3 роки тому +9

      The only reason I can explain this to myself is that our teacher said that sometimes an egg gets fertalized but you don't get pregnant (I don't know the right words in English bit I hope you know what I mean), so then the next time you have your period there also is the fertalized egg. But does that count as baby bits? I don't think so, I mean it's so small you wouldn't even see it.
