Johan Goosen kicked a penalty of 67.1 m while still at school (17 years old) playing against Paul Roos. And I still remember reading in the early 80's that Gerald Bosch once kicked a 77 m penalty...

@@troliskimosko Interesting thought. The American football is shaped with pointy ends, to make it easier to throw forward passes. Rugby ball is designed to be kicked more easily.

There is a big difference doing it on a field no pressure. The pressure in playing a game is different.

I've said it before, Tiaan Swanepoel is like frans steyn reincarnated. It's a pity he is already 26 because from the 1st time I've seen him play at the lions I immediately thought 'SPRINGBOK'. I hope he has a good 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 season to put his hand up for selection.
I hope he gets more game time this coming season, either at #15 or #10. He did very well at #10 during the Currie Cup

Not a like-for-like comparison, this kick is at 1800m above sea level compared to sea level for Elliot Daly. So at that altitude, the general consensus is the ball travels an extra 10m in distance, so have to still give it to Daly, and I'm not an England fan. But they are the facts.

My friend records do not work like that longest kick is longest kick plus this is world rugbys records and with them the player doing the challenge does it from their home ground Tiaan plays for the lions so yeah its at altitude

Yes it is at altitude, yes that does help but he still has to land the kick. Give credit where it's due. Perhaps a condition on this test should be sea level conditions.
A.Smith did a one handed pass to get the record on fastest pass too, one could argue that conditions and rules need to be in place to make it a fair contest.

@@aj-qj4lt I live in Cape Town and when I play golf in Caoe Town at see Level I drive the ball about 250 and I have to keep the ball low because of the strong cape town wind but In Johannesburg I drive the Ball over 300m because of the altitude in Johannesburg. Makes a huge difference.
