I love my driver off the tee, but it didn't come easy. First I sliced terribly until I switched to the single plane swing which gives me a very neutral swing path or slightly in-to-out by a degree or 2. Secondly I made the mistake of chasing distance in a club fitting which I did get, however it costed me accuracy as I tended to leave the face open with cobra darkspeed. I decided to sell that custom driver and revert back to my cobra aerojet max 12 degree with a helium shaft I got from ebay that was a similar weight as the shaft I was fitted for. To help improve accuracy and consistent contact I cut my driver shaft down to 43.5" which improved my fairway stats to 55-70% per game. The other great thing was the distance I got from my custom build started surpassing the driver that I was fitted for! I practice with my driver the most since it gets used the most which built up my confidence to consistently make good shots with it. I also ditched my 3 wood and replaced it with a 5 wood because the 5 is more accurate and carries just as far with a higher ball flight so it stops quicker on a long shots into a green.
I have been using a #2 Cleveland hybrid and now a #3 Hywood off the tee for the last three years. The #3 is longer, I hit that as far as most of my club friends hit their drivers. Thanks for this piece!
I think course management and how you’re hitting it on the range gives you the best idea before a round. For me personally I love the feeling of a well stuck iron more than any other club, that feeling along makes me gravitate more to a long iron than a fairway wood.
I’m so inconsistent with driver. I think I’ve got it down, and then there will be a day where I can’t get it to not slice. Been considering getting some longer irons to try this out. Seems like it might be the way to go for now.
I’ve done similar tests because my home course is very narrow and very demanding off the tee. Actually tested a driving iron vs 4 wood vs 2 hybrid vs mini driver. The mini driver performs the best off the tee for me but the driving iron and 2 hybrid offer a little more versatility. So testing continues and I’ll rely on Shotscope or Arccos data to back it up.
It’s a great test to do. Most people inside of 150 will be able to get it close to the green. So it beats being 3 off the tee or punching out of trees etc
your shot dispersion is pretty tight despite them going right. i think you just make that your stock shot and play into the fade. i think there are some pros that do that like collin morikawa
What’s your option off the tee?

I also know some people like you who hit their fairway woods a long way, I wish I could do that 😂 I just wasn't given that gift

I’m with you, but if I could hit a fairway wood properly that gets me 240 down the fairway I’d use that a lot more

Watch tonight’s video! I had a swing tip from a mate after he watched this video and now my driver is completely fixed! Incredible
I feel your pain. My drive hits the fairway most times just not the fairway for the hole I'm playing...
Haha 😂 I guess it counts as a fairway

Yeah I agree, just something wasn’t quite right but look at tonight’s video because my driver is now completely fixed after 1 simple swing tip!
If I’m blasting driver OB then I just hit my 4 iron off the tee or my hybrid. Just trying to keep it in play
100% agree. That’s what I’ve been doing also
Too far back from the ball. You're having to reach out and it's sliding your shots to the right.
Wait until tonight’s video, had a swing tip from a mate after this video. Driver completely fixed!
