What really drives this song, I believe, is the "Rosanna shuffle" played by their first drummer, Jeff Procaro. Sadly, he passed away in 1992, but his talent-level was off the charts. I'm so glad you enjoyed the music. Thank you!
Jeff Pocaro said the shuffle he used on Rosanna was a combination of three different drumming styles: Bernard Purdie's shuffle beat, which is the backbone of the Rosanna shuffle, plus John Bonham's Fool In The Rain drumming along with Bo Diddley's bass drum beat. Jeff combined all three styles into a hybrid shuffle referred to as the Rosanna shuffle.
Jeff Porcaro on drums here, passed away in August of 92’, he was one of my favorite drummers of all time, you should react to something off the album Kingdom Of Desire that was recorded and released in 92’ before Jeff passed, but didn’t get realased in the US until 93’. For starters I’d say either, Kingdom Of Desire, or Don’t Chain My Heart. This is not off Kingdom Of Desire, but Anna off The Seventh One is another great one, and that Steve Martin movie you were talking about is called “Roxanne” 😂 But if there was a movie called Rosanna, this song would probably be in it. Great Reaction, Enoma.
The great thing about Toto is that being studio musicians all those years is that they really knew how to build a song. Great instrumentation and interplay. I ALWAYS dance when I hear this song. Great reaction. Thank you.
When these back up studio musicians got together to make Toto they did something special....25 albums or so later just wow. This I think got played more than any song in the 80’s or some record like that.
Love watching you two hear a gem like this! There’s an addictive quality to it I’ve noticed, haha imagine addicted to watching strangers watch Toto ❤️👍
Thank you! So happy you enjoyed that one!! Great reaction.....Toto is amazing and some people here in the States stigmatize them to a particular genre. These guys all were amazing studio players and even were the band for a lot of Michael Jackson’s Thriller album
Rosanna made it to #2 on the U.S. charts, behind Eye of the Tiger! The song was rumored to be about actress Rosanna Arquette who dated the keyboard player. It was later revealed as not actually about her, just an ongoing joke that they all played along with. 1982. Fun reaction!
In the U.S., "Rosanna" was a No. 2 hit on the pop singles chart in 1982, "Africa" (also 1982) was a No. 1 pop hit, and "Hold the Line" (1978) was a No. 5 pop hit. Toto is a terrific group with terrific musicians and terrific vocalists! :-)
This song is still used by audio engineers to test sound systems. The drums in this song are very difficult to play as well. VERY important song & a great one as well
This song is a Bopper ! I love to hear it. Great vocals, harmonizing, haunting story of realizing that the lady is free, guitar riffing, piano organ, timpani - the song just swells and builds and i love it!
Maybe one of the top 5 underrated groups of all time.I think this song was up for song of the year in 1983.” Upper crust stuff as you say. They have many you should gear.
✅The best use of a slinky as a musical instrument, ever. ....... (I know it's a tambourine, but it sounds like a slinky🙂) Also, I think that Steve Martin movie you were thinking of was Roxanne. 😉
Damn! Reading the lyrics in this format while listening(for the first time in a few years) makes me rue the day I made a mistake (no I didn't cheat) about a year ago with the best girl I ever had the pleasure of being friends/lovers with. God, I miss her, and feel bad about how it ended. I was wrong and I was selfish. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. Great song though. Cheers.
I agree. People often rave about the "shredding" in the coda, but I don't think it adds anything to the song. The first guitar solo is just *perfect* - concise, stinging, says what it wants to say and then exits stage left.
Great reaction.
Thank you for sharing.

And the funny thing is that Jeff hated shuffles and he had to play this song at almost every concert.
And, this is the same drummer who played on “Lido Shuffle”, by Boz Scaggs RIP Jeff porcaro

These guys had talent and a bunch of hits.
When the heads are bobbing you know toto created an amazing hit appreciated by this wonderful couple
This song, and 'In Your Eyes' by Peter Gabriel, were written about actress Rosanna Arquette.
It's fun to watch you two react to great rock tunes. Rock on!

This song and "Hold the Line" are great. "Africa" takes it to an even greater level.
“I’ll Be Over You” was also a great ballad by them”.

The whole album Toto IV that this track comes from is just so good from start to finish and well worth a listen.
The rumor is the song was written for actress Rosanna Arquette

Cool. 🙂
So fun watching you react to this! I think you'd also like Toto's "I'll Supply the Love".
I think this song is written about the same actress that Peter Gabriel wrote about in "In Your Eyes"
1983 grammie winning super-hit winsome song👧 Loved your reaction ENOMA👩⚕️🤵
"Roxanne" was the Steve Martin movie. You were close though. :}

Roxanne was the movie Rosanna is the song, Roxanna is a take on Cyrano De Bergerac's book of the same name.
Hold The Line is a must review guys great song by Toto
5:02 Savio gettin' down and funky; love it! Rock on buddy!
Possibly the most perfect AOR pop song.
This a composition about guitarist Steve Lukather falling in love about actress Rosanna Arquette. And his experience with that relationship.
No. The keyboard player Steve Porcaro was in a relationship with her. The other keyboard player David Paich wrote the song. Not really written to her.
One of the best synth solos ever IMO.

I always liked Toto.
You should react to toto hit stop loving you, think you'd like it
Try the live version from Amsterdam. It’s one of my favourite versions TBH. Xx
Check out Toto - I'll Be Over You
Great song for sure! If you want to keep the ball rolling with "good Toto" (weakjoke) , try the song - 99

4:57 I was wondering how you’d react to the coda. 🕺💃
África, hold the line, waitinc for your love, I won't hold you back, I'll be over you, without your love . this is the better songs from Toto
✅RIP Jeff Porcaro ... 🙁
The movie is Roxanne, not Rosanna
did it have That song by The Police?
Try Toto - Stop Loving You - ua-cam.com/video/bYr3OJOXk60/v-deo.html
I also prefer Rosanna over Africa. Africa is a good song too but too overplayed
I think it’s easy to forget how great songs like Bohemian Rhapsody and Africa are because they’re so overplayed.
React to mushanga
always been so annoyed by the ending of this song -- should've just faded on "meet you all the way"
