  • In this video, I'm sharing my new die cut and ephemera system. However, not all storage options work for everyone. If you already have a system for storing die cuts and ephemera that you love, please share if you’d like. We can all benefit from hearing how others approach their organization!
    If you are concerned about acid, always check materials with a pH testing pen like this one:
    www.amazon.com/Lineco-Testing...
    Archiving for future generations is not why I personally scrapbook. In the 20+ years I’ve been scrapbooking, none of my earliest pages are deteriorating. I feel very comfortable with modern products. I do not have a pH testing pen, so I did not test the posterboard on the sticky photo mounting sheets I purchased. I can’t say for certain that they are acid free. But after working with them, I feel comfortable storing my die cuts and ephemera with these sheets.
    Back in the day, the cardboard pages, the adhesive, and the plastic covering on the magnetic self-stick mounting pages all gave off acids over time. And photographs, and anything else stored this way, deteriorated. Many of the products produced today are now safe for photographs and memorabilia. When it doubt, test with pH pens.
    In terms of the plastic covering, materials made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC, or vinyl) make the plastic unstable, deteriorate quickly and damage photos. Instead, find plastics that are PVC free.

    I keep all of my stickers and die cuts stored together by theme. That way when I embellish my pages I am only grabbing one folder and not going to several places for embellishments. I keep them in 12x12 plastic folders. Works for me.

    The phrase is actually, "Right off the bat". 😉
    I love this idea, and actually started using it about 6 months ago. One thing I found quickly though was peeling back the clear sheet over and over and over tends to wear out the adhesive. So- I just sliced off an inch from the top and a half an inch from the side where the punched holes are and slid them in sheet protectors. They are just as easy to flip through but when I find what I want I don't have to mess with lifting the cover sheet and hoping I get it back down fairly smoothly, or that it's going to stick at all. I just pull the page out of the top of the page protector, grab what I need and drop it back in.

      That's good to know! I just started so will see how it goes. Now I have a plan if the adhesive wears down. 😊

    I have started this with some die cuts, stamped images and sentiments (I’m a card maker). I have cut the sheets in half so I could use the same container I have my stamps and dies in. It’s also a good size to leave it on my desk.

    • @tammytinedesign
      @tammytinedesign  Місяць тому +1

      I also want to leave the bin out on my desk if it doesn't get in the way too much. I really need to add all my extra die cut pieces and extra Silhouette cuts too! This will be perfect for the bigger ones. 😊

      Great idea Fran. I'm so used to looking in my stamp/die bins, that I know where to look for specific category/theme items. Adding related die cuts and ephemera to these bins using this method Tammy shared and your idea of cutting the sheets in half is AWESOME. Then I can just to go the same stamp/die bins to find the same category die cuts and ephemera (example: Flowers, leaves/greenery/trees, sentiments/words, etc.). Then I can choose to use the die cuts or ephemera, stamp or cut out with the dies. They would all be in the same place. Genius!

    If those new page protectors are really acid free, that’s the perfect solution for me! Like you, I don’t want to have to lug a binder every time I need to find ephemera for a project. The system you now use looks like a good fit for me. I have so much ephemera and die cuts like you. I am now subscribed. Thank you!

    Thank you so much for sharing this system. I REALLY like it. I'm going to do this. I also like the idea that one of your viewers (franmc6797) suggested to cut the photo adhesive pages in half so they fit in the same bins where I store my stamps and dies. Then my stamps, dies and ephemera/die cuts will all be in the same place. I have limited space, so I would not have to add any additional bins since I already have my stamp/die bins set up. TFS!

    I've been doing this for about half a year now, but still in the binder, and I absolutely love it. I like your idea though about taking them out of the binder, and just flipping through for the page you want. I organize all of my cut outs by color because that's the first thing I take in consideration when working with papers. If I need a purple flower, i'll look for flowers in my purple section. It really makes the catogorizing much easier.

    Love your method but have to chuckle at my self. I had all my ephemera in pages of baseball holding sheets. Works great but I hate the heavy binder and how easily they fall out. So I switched to separate plastic picture holders and labeled what was in there. It looks so nice and I never use it!! LOL. I keep my stamp sets in bins like you have and love flipping through them. Your idea is brilliant!! TYSM

    This may be too late for you to use but maybe someone else could adopt it. A Very sweet neighbor brought me a 1980's residential and yellow pages. If you are old like me, you probably remember that the kids all sat on phone books at the formal Sunday dinner. I used this 'new' white pages to pull from to add extra interest to a page. Somehow it ended up with me sticking some dried (drying) flowers. One thing led to another and now I have a phone book sticker and tag space. Some of the pieces are put in with double sided tape and some just straight on the page. I divide it into 4 or 5 color groupings so they make sense to me. if something needs to have the back showing I put those in with removable tape. Best deal...you will always have the book to pull from.

    • @tammytinedesign

    I think I have too much stuff for this system but I do like it. I've tried several methods. I currently have small plastic containers of various sizes and keep similar die cuts, fussy cuts in them. It's working but I still have to dig through. I also have altoids tins and glued 2-3 examples on the lid so I know the type of cuts that are in them. I do like digging through bins and drawers. We all need to experiment and see what works for our personal style.

    • @tammytinedesign
      @tammytinedesign  28 днів тому

      Yes! It's so funny how what works for one person would totally mess up someone else. I say the best systems support how you create. It's just a matter of figuring that out! 😊

    Just started using die cuts. I went to Hobby Lobby and found a photo holder, which had individual holders for photos. I now use that for extra die cuts I make ahead of time. Keep them all in one case which makes it so much more organized.

    • @tammytinedesign
      @tammytinedesign  Місяць тому

      I do use these for other things. Great idea to use them for the die cuts. 😊

    • @missychan63
      @missychan63 Місяць тому

      I actually bought two of these cases specifically for ephemera but found that having to dig through all of the individual cases was driving me crazy. Then I went to a giant bowl that I just left on my desk and pawed through when I needed something, LOL. It's about 14 in across but only 4 in deep so it holds a lot! But, I might dig for 10 minutes and not find what I was looking for. I say to heck with it and use something else and look back over at the bowl, and of course... What I originally wanted is sitting right on top laughing at me. 😂
      Now I use these sticky sheets but I put them in sheet protectors instead of messing with the clear cover sheets.

    Oh wow! that is amazing!! I like your idea of keeping them loose. I am absolutely going to do this!! I have many scrapbook pages that I have done but do no have photos on them. I have kept them in a large binder but it's so heavy and nuisance to pull out. I wonder if I could do something similar. Maybe I wouldn't even have to use the sheets I could just store them loose, but still need to find out a way to keep them somewhat stiff and not bend to much. But storing them in an album is not working.

    Love this idea! Much better to see all of the collection at a glance. I have tried to figure out a way to organize my sticker collection and followed a video that had me sticking them to sheets of wax paper. BAD IDEA! They stuck so much to the wax paper that over time I can't even get them off the sheet and many of them are now ruined! Maybe a better idea might be to use parchment paper or invest in some sticker paper backing sheets that is designed just for that purpose. ♥

    I’ve been thinking about doing something like this but placing them on sticker release paper. Maybe you could line a few of your album pages with it to place the stickers you were looking for ideas on. Your other die cuts besides Paige Evans, are you just placing them on sheets randomly or are you trying to stick to a theme or color? I had been placing mine in the bags like you were but I cut the packaging that showed what was in it out and included it the bag. I’d mark the off each die cut I used along the way so I wouldn’t waste time searching for a die cut that wasn’t there. Thanks for sharing this idea!

    • @tammytinedesign
      @tammytinedesign  Місяць тому

      You're welcome and wow, I hadn't thought of this. I didn't know you could get sticker release pages themselves without the whole sticker collecting book. But a quick Amazon search shows you can buy sticker release papers. I will definitely try this and possibly do a follow up. Will see if I can get it to still work with the magnetic sticky sheets. Maybe use page protectors if not, but I would like to avoid that. Need to do some experimenting. Thanks for the idea! I've been trying to keep stuff together by designer - all Paige Evans no matter what collection, all Echo Park, all Simple Stories, etc.. I tend to think about the brand before I think of theme so that was easier for me. I don't mind over time if there's a variety on each page, as long as I'm using stuff up!

      They come in different sizes with little boxes inside of a bigger box. Harbor Freight Tools has a similar box that I do use for wood veneer, but the boxes are really small. That could work depending on how much sequins you have, how large the buttons are.

      Awesome idea. I took the Happy Planner idea and made my own storage for my stamps. I like having books to flip through. How do you store projects as you work on them?

      I have project envelopes that I found on Amazon. I have a shelf under my desk and just stack them up.

    Love this idea & will absolutely be giving it a try. Question: has anyone used these to organize small dies? Are they too heavy? Is the surface sticky & sturdy enough to hold them? Might this surface have a better grip than the magnetics?

      Interesting idea for die cuts definitely without a binder. Will keep my dies in 4 x 6 sturdy plastic pockets. There is sufficient space for a sheet of cardboard, magnetic sheet and dies.

      Thanks! Good question. I think it could for lighter dies, that are open, frames, shapes. But if it has a solid metal back and are big, they may be too heavy. The static cling sheet will fit around smaller dies. It's worth a try. I don't know if the sticky texture would transfer to the metal die over time or not. It's not super tacky.
      I have tried the magnetic sheets and was never happy with them inside Avery Elle pockets. The pockets are great, but the dies don't stay attached. I fell in love with the magnet sheets when I attached them to the sides of my Ikea Helmer units. Upright like that, dies stick great. The magnetic sheets also stick really nicely to dry erase white boards. I have several in my space (for a different purpose) but if you put the magnet sheets on that and hang it on the wall you get a ton of space and can fit a ton of dies.

      @@heatherchambers1609 Have tried the 4.5 x 6 pockets of $Store mini albums but looking for a way attach dies to a surface; otherwise they shift & sometimes fall out. Tried low tack dbl sided tape - worked to stick ok but hard to access/replace. Do you use a "baseball card" type insert?

      @@tammytinedesign Nice info on the magnetics, thank you. I am but a humble carder & work small, so hoping this will work for me. Have ordered these from Amazon, will post back with results. So glad I came across your video. Good clear presentation, BTW. Thanks.

    Hi Tammy! I'm new here. You got me with Die Cut Storage SYSTEM. I have been looking for a way to store my stickers an ephemera and this just might be the one. What are the dimensions?

      The dimensions of the sheets I'm using are 9x11.

    Do you think those sheets would work for storing unmounted stamps?

    • @tammytinedesign
      @tammytinedesign  Місяць тому +1

      I think the stamps might be too heavy. Because the stamps aren't flat, the plastic might not stretch all the way across. Not sure it would be a good fit for unmounted stamps.

    What size was your IRIS bin for your die cuts please.

      The Iris bins I was using are the 12x12 size, big enough to hold 12x12 papers.
