You can clearly hear the Bhajan singers uttering the words "Durga Ma". This is amazing for an Indian who always knew that Thailand is a Buddhist country which is different from India's Hindu traditions. Now, here you can see the Thai people celebrating Navratri/Durga Utsav/Dashera as it is known in different parts of India. This is Hinduism in full flourish in Thailand celebrated in a unique Thai tradition which is almost totally similar to the way this festival is celebrated in different parts of India. So why do we see such syncretic fusion of traditional Hindu beliefs and reformist Buddhist beliefs in a single nation? That's because Thailand is essentially a Hindu or Sanatan nation. A Thai individual may express himself/herself in his/her unique way but that expression will always be a reflection of his/her Hindu roots. You'll find similar Hindu-Buddhist fusion all over southeast Asia and to a large extent in East Asia as well.
This is absolutely correct. It amazes me when westerners, like myself, are shocked at how Hindu Thailand is. Even people who live there. How could you not notice, Ganesha is EVERYWHERE.
In regard to Buddhism, serious scholars know that as Maurice Bloomfield wrote in his The Religion of the Veda (1908), “There is no important form of Hindu thought, ‘heterodox’ Buddhism included, which is not rooted in the Upanishads.”. The famous Anglo-Ceylonese scholar Ananda Coomaraswamy stated in his Hinduism and Buddhism: The more superficially one studies Buddhism, the more it seems to differ from the Brahmanism in which it originated; the more profound our study, the more difficult it becomes to distinguish Buddhism from Brahmanism or to say in what respects, if any, Buddhism is really unorthodox. Siddharta Gautama was only trying to discover for himself the ancient wisdom secretly guarded by the Brahmins and Buddhist texts state that he follwoed a long line of earlier Buddhas, many of whom were Brahmins. Enlightenment was known in the Vedic tradition millennia before Gautama. In spite of Gautama's rather vague and misleading concepts in regard to the Atman and denial of the Universal Ground Consciousness, later Mahayana traditions, especially the r-Dzogs-chen (Final Super-complete form] Tantric Tibetan Buddhism advocated by the Dalai Lama - has taciltly returned to the Inner Light (or Atman) and the Universal Ground Consciousness (or Brahman). As J.L. Mehta wrote the central unifying concept of the Rig Veda is the [Divine] Light. The Sanatana Dharma is based upon the Vedic insight that That Which Exists (or Realty/Truth) is One, Though Sages/seer Call it by Various Names. Indeed, Platonism, Gnosticism, Manichaeanism, Hermeticism, Christianity, Neoplatonism, Islam, Sufism, Sikhism and Daosim are all based on the Divine Light [unlike tribal Judaism which is based on the apotheosis of Rage and Wrath instincts]. There was much Indian philosophical influence in the West as well and if you understand True Spirituality - you will find that the Bhagavad Gita's doctrine of NisKamaKarma (non-egoic action) parallels the later Christian doctrine of Redemption and that the Virgin Birth of a 'Son of God' actually refers to the Vedantic Anandamayakosa (Causal Body - or the Susupti State as in the AUM 4-states model] or the Neoplatonic Ochema, or the Gnostic Garment or Light/Linen. However, unlike the Indians and the Greeks who progressed beyond mythological theology to conceptual Philosophy (beginning in the Upanishads) the Semitic Monotheisms are stuck in primitive mythology and the false belief [inherited by the Jews from Zoroastrianism] that their own Sect is the One True Faith etc. leading to Materialistic corruption of True Spiritual meanings and the Sectarianism and religious conflict that is notable by its absence in the traditional Indic traditions. Indeed, I have even identified the physical correlate of the Inner Light and begun the synthesis of Science and True Spirituality - look up Undermining the Walls of the Ivory Towers of White Mythology.
Thai people didn't inherit culture from India they were part of present mainland India which is BHARAT as per ancient Indian Vedic history, they are just Separated by political boundaries but united by ancient cultural roots and boundaries. Ayutthaya Kingdom, Chola Kingdom, Kingdom of Sumatra, Kingdom of Chiang Mai, Khmer Tribal Kingdom, Thai Tribal Kingdom, Dvaravati kingdom, Malay Kingdom, Siam, Java, Bali, Ceylon, Champa (Vietnam), Brahmdesh (Burma now Myanmar), and many more. Even If you will visit these countries and places you will find ancient Hindu temples or some ancient names or food culture or traditions or village management systems or religious occasional dresses are the same. Never forget we are a 70000-year-old culture with dated archeological proof on earth, celebrate it unapologetically. Jai Bhavani! Indian ❤ Thai.
Indian culture existed in Thailand and other south eastern countries as those regions were once India but the Han Chinese who have moved in have taken Indian culture and religion and claiming it to be their own which it is not. Chinese people practise their Shinto ideologies and worship Jesus but don't have the guts to call it Chinese Christianity.

Thanks to the Chola dynasty, they brought Hindu culture and Hinduism to SE Asia.
@@Karan_1741 Well, not to offend but
People have put Chola dynasty very high, ofcourse they were formidable, but they didn't bring Hinduism to SE Asia,
Hinduism was already there and was popular, He conquered Srivijaya empire, which itself has Sanskrit name.
Hinduism existed there even in 1 century CE.
It spread mostly because of trade, Cholas were very late for doing any.
@@Karan_1741 hinduism wasn't brought by cholas it was by indian traders, only dumbs tamils believe that
