Great episode
I feel like Kurt was a little “proofed” as the filming went on!:)
Love the humor!
Guess I am just that goofy because I had none before the show 😳.
Lol lol 😂😂…I’m watching this and thinking, he’s not even drinking, he must have gotten proofed before the camera started rolling! 😂 All good…great share, thx!
I figured so when he said Stagg Jr is 132 PERCENT alcohol! Now that will get you needing help quickly
I thought Kurt was stiff too.
Sure Kurt...reminds me of this I Love Lucy episode.😁 ua-cam.com/video/6x4Uk7qWRR8/v-deo.html
I am getting ready to retire from the military. In doing so, I am considering a bourbon and whiskey club in my basement. Watching your humor, honesty, and wisdom from your channel has inspired me. Thank you.
Certainly appreciate that and may I say thank you for your service to this country!!
Hoping you enjoy a long healthy, and happy retirement!
I think you will find your bourbon club to be a great source of camaraderie and very educational. I wish you all the best!
I don’t have a problem honey,
It’s a club!!
I've probably watched about 30 of SLB's videos. Love the content and love listening to the way he describes his inventory. Must say though, sounds like Kurt may have had a few pours before recording this one 😂😉 Certainly not judging, just saying 😂😂
Hard to say, don’t remember. I am usually pretty goofy at home so it depends.
I can tell you one for sure. We taped the finals of the old fashioned taste off and Trent and I kind of polished off the drinks. Shortly after my wife noticed I somehow messed up the order so we had to do it all over again! That wasn’t good lol.
@@slbdrinks Lol! Looks like fun while providing interesting content. If you can’t be goofy at home, where can you be? Thanks for the videos, keep ‘‘em coming!
Thanks buddy!
Speed it up to 1.2x and he sounds fine. Except for confusing proof and ABV ;)
😂
Seems like you were double tasting all of your favorites before you started filming? Enjoy! Really like your videos!
I love how half-pissed he is. 😂
Hard for me to hide emotions lol. Thanks for watching!
@@slbdrinks He means you're 'buzzed.'
That sound effect had me rolling! 😂😂
Great content! I've seen a number of your videos, and enjoy them all...thanks for your info!
Appreciate it, thank you!
Kurt says he’s been sampling for weeks prior to this episode…right up until the camera went on, in my opinion. 😆 makes the reviews more honest, I love it.
I was gonna say he is buzzed
For low-budget bourbons, Elijah Craig, Buffalo Trace, and Woodford Reserve are my favourites. As for high-budget bourbons, I should tell that I don't have enough experience about them ; I'd rather buying scotch whiskys when it comes to high-priced bottles since i'm not a bourbon guy. Nonetheless, I 'd prefer bourbon to the rest of whisky types, such as Japanese whiskys, some of which are overpriced and some are overrated. Greetings from Turkey. Slainte!
Much love and thank you for your input here!
Good channel. A real man giving a real review. Thanks for sharing your time and talent! KANSAS
Thanks for all your support sir!!
Love seeing these old videos and how the channel evolved. Maybe it’s just me but it seems like Kurt’s love for Ryes has waned over time? He also seemed to be a few deep for this one 😂
I really liked sazerac the first few bottles I bought. Then the third bottle had a medicinal taste to it that I couldn't stand. I'm not sure if it was just a bad bottle or my taste has changed. I pass by it for 27 bucks all the time, I'll have to try a pour of it again somewhere before I buy a whole bottle.
I don’t have it often but the few bottles I have had has been pretty darn good.
Great video especially with Kurt being inebriated 😂
That russels reserve single barrel again. Such a delicious bourbon. I recently tried the wild turkey rare breed and it's not too far behind the russels reserve.
Both outstanding choices! Love Wild Turkey!
My everyday drinker is Wild Turkey Rare Breed and its one of the best bourbons out there in my opinion.
It is soooo freaking gooood!
You know what’s good!? That Russels Reserve 10Yr w/ Egg Nog…. No joke check it out… I always get that Apple Pie from the 10Yr and it’s soooooo good w/ Egg Nogg and a little Cinnamon
Would you do a video of your absolute favorite cocktail's and how to mix em ??
That’s a great idea!
Also for all that of us cigars smokers. Like what cocktails and what spirits paid well with which cigars.
Being a non smoker I will have to work on this one. I have some friends that might want to join in on that party though!
Just wanted to let you know, I tried Wild Turkey 101 for the first time after watching your Best for $20 and I really like it. It is as good or better than some $40 bottles I have been trying. Thanks for the suggestion.
Your welcome! Really glad you liked it!
Enjoyed! I would watch more bourbon review content if you made it!
Appreciate you!
Can we get a woodford lineup blind? I think it would be interesting????
Yes it would!
Hell, even the Red Breast 12 is a fine Irish Whiskey...so smooth to drink on it's own.
I prefer this one neat! Very smooth!
You show me a professional whiskey and bourbon taster, I will show you a liar. There is no such thing as a professional taster. The one has who drank the most can with confidence say, 'what a wonderful invention' each time he hoists a libation.
Excellent wording! I completely agree!
I'm with you. I DO NOT LIKE SCOTCH!
Love your videos and reviews. Your not being a professional adds to the quality of your reviews, because they seem to come from the heart without the snobbery the professional usually brings to their opinions.
I appreciate that! It’s not an act it’s the truth. I enjoy whiskey and love to learn and share with others but def would not consider myself a professional!
Very informative. Would make a nice gift for my husband.
Yeah Evan Williams bonded and wild turkey 101 have been the go toos while unemployed lol
Ha! Good for you!
The smack sound effect though...haha. nice.
New to all this and I really appreciate your insights and honesty. Thanks
Appreciate that! Sound effects are a Trenton specialty!
There's no such thing as a 132 percent bottle of alcohol! I think you meant 132 proof.
Did I slip up lol?? Might have, the older I get that happens once in a while.
When you mentioned Early Times bourbon. I was taken back. My favorite Uncles favorite. Would buy it by the case. Use to be a med to high range bourbon. Of course I am going back a few years. Really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work. 👍
The Leathered Bar.
Much appreciate! Love the name of the bar!
“ Im gonna hire you to be my latex salesman? I don’t think so.”
P.S. nice sound effects Trent!
Oww! That hurt, what a slap in the face! I love You guys and Trenton you are AWESOME!
Looks like u tried a few or 20 ounces before doing this video.
I always enjoy seeing where I agree and disagree with light whisk(e)y drinkers and this was no exception. Totally agree with you on Russell's Reserve (and the others you mentioned passing over in that range), Bardstown, Stagg Jr., Yellow Spot, and Redbreast. We totally disagree in that I absolutely love scotch (the peatier and smokier the better) and on the other hand think that the best use for ryes is degreasing engine parts. If don't mind peat and like cask finishes one of my go to scotches is Ardbeg Uigeadail and I'd suggest giving it a try. When it comes to Irish whiskey in addition to those you mentioned try to find a bottle of Jameson Cooper's Croze or one of the Writer's Tears varieties. I don't know what all you've had in Japanese whisky but I didn't find the Hibiki Harmony (or the widely available Suntory Toki) all that interesting. Yamazaki 12 is far better IMO and if you can find some Taketsuru 17 Pure Malt it is fantastic, as is the Monsho Peated Pure Malt. It's all personal preference in the end though, cheers!
Yes it is! Fantastic recommendations and I love your explanation of rye whiskeys lol! I do have the Uigeadail and enjoy it immensely from time to time. I am most interested in your Japanese recommendations. I have to check into those! I do have the Yamazaki 12 which I find very good as well!
I like the editing humor in this video.. but didn't call him out for saying Stag Jr was 132 PERCENT, and kept referring to proof as alcohol percentage after that.. what a missed opportunity.. lol
Ha! That’s unusual for Trent!
My all time favorite whiskey is Crown Royal... but after getting a few of the bottles you suggested... I now have 2 new favs... Buffalo Trace and Four roses....
Nice!
The sound effects and written comments had me rolling.
The Irish whiskey is quite out of the acquisition prjce
Were you by any chance a little tipsy when you made this video? 😅 I felt like I was on a cruise ship in choppy sea. 😵💫
A great list, though.
I wish! No, truthfully under the weather. At that point hadn’t sipped whiskey for 3-4 days. Maybe that was the problem lol
@@slbdrinks: Yes, that might have been the problem - low bourbon blood levels. All kidding aside, thanks again for the wonderful videos.
Thanks buddy!
Hey Guys enjoy your videos! Tried Wild Turkey 101 and Rare Breed because you like them so much gotta say you are spot on they are fabulous in my book!!! Have you tried Wild Turkey 101 Rye? I must say I like some Ryes but this one is not a favorite! Thanks again from Mike, from Mesquite Texas. Love my Bourbons!
Hey Mike glad you are enjoying the channel! WT 101 rye I feel is ok but it would not make a top 5 list for me.
Trenton, I have time to hit the bowl and be back before his next pick? Lol!
OF Rye is fantastic. I tastes like a malty sweet bourbon to me with very little rye spice. I like Stagg Jr, but honestly prefer Elijah Craig Barrel Proof most of the time. Too much cherry flavor in the Stagg Jr for me. My favorite Japanese is Nikka From the Barrel for somewhat available ones. You have very good taste in whiskey and are honest about the availability of them.
All good choices! I do have everything in your list and can’t agree more! Would like to do a Japanese whiskey video at some point.
You have a very deep pocket old man, cost doesnt seem to matter much…so add Yamazaki 18y to your collection to widen your Japanese taste buds. Macallans, Springbanks and Bowmore 18yrs should be easy reach for you..nice collection to put them on your shelf. Dont waste your space with them bourbons, although I would admit I like Lock Stock and Barrel 18y..good stuff that is!
Yes it is! I have eyeballed the Yamazaki 18 for years. Can’t seem to pull the trigger on that one.
You look like you are liquidating the inventory during/before the video! Go for it!
Kurt, are you high my dude ?
Never been high so that would not be it! Who knows otherwise 😂
FOUND IT..... going back and checking out your other vids... how did you not hit 24K (congrats by the way!!!) Going to pick up that Russell's... I trying to find the 13, but will "settle" for the single barrel. just going to have to do it.... Irish, we did a "fight" between redbreast 12 and Greenspot... GS won, then it took out Yellowspot.... Greenspot is one of my favs, have recently found Bushmills Blackbush, totally different animal.... and can't foget Sexton.... I wish they would come out with a barrel proof Sexton................. that would be heaven.............. great vid as always....
Trenton, love the "horn tooting"
I never found the 13 either, I was bummed about that. Just got a bottle of Sexton so need to get into that one a bit more. RB is always good! Blue spot is my fave of the spots but I don’t have red.
Hopefully gonna buy a bottle of Woodford Reserve on Friday! Been wanting to try that one for awhile!
Good choice!
Agree with ET B&B. However, can’t find it anywhere. My Total Wine store said not expecting any until the end of 2022!
Jeez!!
I totally agree with your take on Scotch. Sure it's whiskey but you can tell it isn't made in Ky or Tn😆 I was given two fingers of Jack Daniels and a half hour later a double shot of Jameson and it's night and day. The finish on Scotch is TOTALLY different from American whiskies and that's not an opinion. It's fact.
Agreed!
Sorry, even UA-cam cut in here for a Reese’s peanut butter cup info!
Trenton, cut it out! I am trying to watch this video! Lol
Love the video… I’m in the minority, but I just don’t enjoy the Early Times BiB. Tastes generic to me, with barely any nose. Much prefer WT 101, Old Forester 100, Larceny, and EW BiB at that price point.
Def cannot argue with the rest of your list! Appreciate your input!
I really enjoyed this one, unfortunately ; a ;number of these products are simply not available in the New Orleans area. but I do keep looking
Sorry to hear that.
The only Scotch I have found that will appease the palate, is The McCallen 10 year, but better the 12 year cherry cask.
I have never tried the 10 yr. Need to do that!
I will stick with my Templeton Rye.
"I'm not a professional" he says as he has 420,069 bottles of straight wisky behind him. If you aren't sir idk who is.
Well thank you but honestly I learn so much from you folks every day. I will never be the smartest guy in the room when it comes to whiskey and spirits but I am sure enjoying the journey!
I live In Japan 3 years for now and my wife obviously is Japanese and its cool that You appreciate HIBIKi so much it is highly appreciated here im Japan as well do not want to sound rude but the way to pronounced the Hi is with the sound of I and not Y
I always accept correction gladly! Rather be right than wrong lol!
Hibiki is one of my absolute favorite whiskies! Thank you for sharing and blessings to you and your wife in Japan!
You should show the front of the bottle when holding a bottle while talking
Forget old forester rye, you will be hard pressed to find it.. Sept 2021. You can get Wild Turkey 101 rye.. at 25$ and you can find it everywhere.
WT is an excellent choice as well!
Dude I love your videos keep going learning and learning each day with you about liquors and cocktails videos … thank you so Much
Much appreciated!
Please consider people from outside the US, we dont have the huge selection you have in the States... it would be great when you make your fav lists to show your second option... just in case the first is not available hahaha
You know you make a good point. I only can reference my area but in the states and abroad can be very different.
Hey, you said every bottle would be in the description, but I don't see it?
I am going to ask Trent, not sure what happened. Sorry bout that.
@@slbdrinksno worries, thanks for the response! I look forward to seeing the list. Love your channel!
@11:25 “…it rolls in at a whopping 132%… alcohol.. volume…”
At 58 yrs old the words sometimes just don’t roll out like they should 😂
The sound effects LMAO!
Great video, really, but it sounds like you might have taken quite a few samples to narrow your results lol
Hmmmm
Love him, but he is either exhausted or very tipsy..
The slap sound effect 😂
Trent at his best lol
I would like to see if your opinions have changed in the two years since this.
Oh for sure! Would be interesting to check that out!
My favorite of late has been Burning Chair by Savage & Cooke. Probably mid-to-high range.
Haven’t heard of that one. Need to check it out!
That's Balvenie 21 Port Wood?
I do have that bottle, yes.
Do a review of the new Early Times since Sazarec bought it
That would be a great idea! What would be better is if there would be any way I can find an older bottle as well than compare.
I just start watching your Channel... wow not only very informative but funny. Love the comments and extra special sounds on the show, hey can you do a Single Malt Special on bottles of $ 50 dollars or less. :-)
Most definitely! Thank you
How does the 21 compare to the 27? I have a 21 and my local store has the 27 but it is $499. I’ve heard awesome things but unless it’s considerably better than the 21 I just don’t know if I can put that much down on a bottle right now
That’s a huge decision so patience and caution are everything. It is quite a bit different to the 21. Lot more beautiful fruit up front. In my area it has gone down to about 425.00. Worth it? Probably not but is any whiskey worth that?? Am I glad I got it even if it was just once. Would have to say yes.
@@slbdrinks Thank you for getting back! I remember seeing it for closer to that 450 range before, like everything it just seems to be going up though :( . Good advice on not rushing, I have a birthday coming up in a couple months so maybe just hold off until then and see if it pops up cheaper anywhere. Would you say it has a considerable tropical fruit over the 21? I really like the biscuit with tropical jam flavors lol if the 27 has that more than the 21 I’m probably going to have to get it at some point!
I was getting a funny dill flavor from old forester rye that I just could not get over.
yeeeaaahhhh. I personally don't think dill should ever be a flavor that should be in a bourbon
The early times they sell here in Japan is like sickly sweet syrup it’s disgusting nobody buys it
Wonder if it’s different? Interesting
I think he feeling pretty good
Love these guys but man does he seem lit
Awhile back I had a chance to taste some Bookers. I don't know the batch, or any particulars, but it was the smoothest, most flavorful I have ever tried. I'd like your opinion on Bookers. It is expensive, but I plan to buy until I find one
i like
I'm relatively new to bourbon tasting but really like your videos. You present your views but are not preachy about your opinions. Have you ever tried any of Bluegrass Distillers of Lexington products? I have and really liked their blue corn bourbon. Tony
Give “Angel Envy” a try….I am sure you’d like it. Mid priced..very smooth
Thanks for the heads up! I drained a bottle of AE month or 2 ago. Gonna have to get another!
@@slbdrinks Angel's Envy RYE, is unforgettable
angel's envy finished rye
@@JD_Skiddles I hear lots of mixed opinions on AE rye, so I've had a hard time making the choice to pay $90 for it. I love the AE bourbon though.
double vision to happen
A regular guys opinion? I like it. Thanks.
From one regular guy to another, I appreciate it thank you!
Balvenie Caribbean Cask, and Balvenie Double wood scotch -can't go wrong with those either
Forget Early Times.. its not the same stuff.. they are selling now in 2021. it is complete watered down hobo trash.
Really?? That’s to bad if accurate. I have not purchased a bottle recently to know. The bottle I had was really good for the price.
It has to still be 100 proof if it claims to be bottled in bond. Watering it down would lower the proof.
Love your honestly would you do a video of best value $100 bottles?
Appreciate that thank you! Good recommendation, see what we can do!
Yeah, he's a little ripped.
Kurt, give me your keys.
why do most rye whiskeys I try have such a chocolate kick to them?
Really dont have a scientific answer for you. If the malted grain in the mash bill is toasted I know that will create a chocolate note.
Old Grandad 100 proof. I bought a liter for $3.45 in 1975 at the Class 6 store on base. That is what I drank during the first part of the month. By the end of the month, it was Popov Vodka for $2.00.
Wow incredible!
LICKLE STORE! 😂😂😂😂
Your not an expert but you’re one of us with hell of a lot more experience.
Def not an expert but I do love to share opinions and conversations about whiskey, spirits, and cocktails! I do appreciate your kind words.
Great show.
😂 that’s awesome!
YES!!! I love LSB 18 year! Glad it made an appearance
I wish I could find early times here. we only have the 80 proof on the shelves.
You know it’s odd because a while ago we didn’t see ET for several months but now it’s basically on every shelf. Strange.
@@slbdrinks what area do you live? Here in Pensacola FL I have yet to see it in the wild. I am excited to try it. Wonder how it will stack up against OGD BIB to me.
I live in NW Indiana bout 60 miles away from Chicago.
Kurt I had a Meijer clerk stocking bottles asked me if I liked Angel Envy? She said it was on clearance reg 52.oo going for 25.00. Is this a ok brand?
I personally think it’s an excellent starter bourbon. Low proof good taste. That’s a great price as well!
Really wonderful presentation.
Do you prefer drinking these :
1. With or without ice?
2. With or without a mixer?
Ice depends on my mood. These days I would prefer straight with an occasional cocktail. With these choices I would say ice 30% of the time otherwise neat.
Hey Curt - are you my neighbor? Winfield IN bourbon enthusiast.
Ya for sure! Valparaiso!
I got lucky and found a bottle of the Early Times while traveling, I wish I would have bought all they had lol Cannot find it near me, very good stuff and also it's a one liter bottle 🤘🏼
That’s great! I didn’t see it in my area for a while and than just lately they started popping up.
It’s different now . New company
@@grungeface different how? Better? Not as good?
@@Mojoe70 not sure , haven’t had yet. Any review I have seen says it is different. But still sounds like it’s good

I cannot recall if you have profiled any of the Heaven's Door lineup?
Would be interested in seeing a taste test of their entire lineup with your thoughts.
Honestly have not tried any of the HD. Need to do that! Thanks for joining us!
Grappa?
Brandy is definitely a category I need to learn more. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
I trust what he says.
I love how the nose notes pop when you pour a George T Stagg/Stagg Jr over a big cube of ice...OH, IT'S SO GOOD!!! Give that bad boy a little time for the ice to melt a wee bit, and it's like a nectar from the gods.
It is def soooooo goooood!
How about Eagle Rare
Very nice bourbon if you can find it for retail or close to it.
@@slbdrinks I was looking up to find a case of six, and $45 each
Sorry that came out wrong, I found a case of six for $45 apiece
Not a bad price for some areas. If I am lucky I see it in the high 30’s. If it’s a bottle you love I wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger.
