- Dale Steyn is a retired South African professional cricketer who is considered one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time. He was born on June 27, 1983, in Phalaborwa, South Africa.
Steyn made his international debut for South Africa in 2004 and quickly established himself as one of the most fearsome fast bowlers in the game. He was known for his lightning pace, accurate line and length, and ability to swing the ball both ways. Steyn had a smooth, fluent action and generated immense pace and bounce, making him a difficult proposition for even the best batsmen.
Over the course of his career, Steyn played 93 Test matches, taking 439 wickets at an average of 22.95. He also played 125 One Day Internationals, taking 196 wickets at an average of 25.95. In addition to his impressive record in international cricket, Steyn also had a successful career in domestic T20 leagues, playing for teams such as the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League and the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League.
Steyn was named ICC Test Player of the Year in 2008 and 2013, and also won the prestigious Wisden Cricketer of the Year award in 2013. He announced his retirement from Test cricket in 2019, and retired from all forms of cricket in August 2021.
