If you haven't heard,
Check out Dorthia Cottrell (of Windhand)
she does solo dark-acoustic-blues
She has the voice doom metal needed but didn't know it needed
Oh my sweet Gods this is Glorious!
awwww man this is so awesome the guitar solo reminds me of paradise lost's gothic album. the guitar tone and style of the solos is similar but shit damn this is so good!
i love the clear blue vinyl too :)
do you mean minute 13?
Anyone know where I can find the lyrics?
It´s remember me some kind of shoegaze.
Her voice is so buried in the music, this is the best I can do:
There must be a season
Where I can rest my bones
Some would trade their freedom
Some would trade their gold
Chorus:
Got light of the morning
Then sat down on the floor
Sing at the sun in the evening
Sleep in despair of the dawn
There must be a reason
Nothing good can stay
Passes into winter
Passes into winter
Take me to your garden
Where I can be alone
(chorus)
Wow! Thanks!
She is my favourite Doom Metal singer. Ozzy is objectively the best, but her energy is so different. It's an energy I need in my life.
Her voice is hypnotic. Puts me in a blissful trance every time
After you listen to this song you instantly become a wizard
I heard it spits you out the other side of a Pink Floyd album, some time in the 90’s, and you try to remember your past life even though you’re now some stoner kid
@@IggyCrib other side of a Pink Floyd album, in the 90's you say?
Holy Shit, thatsa "Potentially Powerful Past Pink Floyd Prime, Past life Passover Paradigm "
Yeah, thats right. I just took another toke off this Jet and Hit Lvl 2 Wizard... Huh? What?
What were we talking about?
"I'm a wizard mind you!"
Can confirm.
Windhand groove to solos harmony is unmatched. People dont know
Listened to dope and accidentally smoked all my Windhand
Boleskine Lodge was Aleister Crowleys rented home on the shore of Loch Ness - It's still there .
Not anymore.
i think jimmy page once owned it
Yeah, he did
It burnt down.
@@matthewbennett4429 There's a historical charity organization working to restore it. It's mostly just walls right now. But it's not gone.
Don't know how to really describe the feeling. Try mountain hiking while listening to Windhand. Something about being surrounded by nature while listening to the powerful rawness of Windhand. Bordering on hypnotic is the result. Try it sometime, you'll be glad you did
i listened in my darkest moments.. contemplating suic due to cocktail of substances in a clinic..
i'm well now but windhand hit my souls bulls eye...and was heavy shadow work and felt as company..
this is how i feel..no words.just windhand
This whole album is so heavy.. I happily have this one on vinyl and every time I play it it is truly an experience. Dorthias vocals are absolutely ethereal throughout the entire thing. I ritualistically sacrifice a banana every time.
Well those bananas deserve it with all that bruising
I listen to this over and over again right now.
💆
Wish they released the lyrics to this somewhere on the Internet. Being a non-native English speaker, some parts aren't quite "comprehensible", and this kinda affects the experience.
THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERE MUSSSSST BEEEEE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASOOOOOOOOOOOOOON WHERE AAAAAAAAAAAIQUEEEEEEMRESSSSSSSSTMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONEEEEESSSSSS
@@almagexnum this was actually helpful as FUCK, man
@@raphaelb.8665 you're welcome brooo, anytime i'm in doubt about this kinda shit the solution is to drown into the delay and patientily let the words enter the void. first rule of listenin to doom: atmosphere. let all the sounds create the ambient and the lyrics will show you the path. to me, this tune is kinda an awakening into a freezin forest, then you walk around the heavy snow, find a distant woodbine where a sweet guitar plays, when u step into the house the sound blasts. perfect vibe to read or draw; will not transcribe the whole lyrics because if its not the interest of the band, i will not break the magic of the discovery. have a nice day!
ps: just answered you because i love the office too.
Don't worry bro, native English speaker here and I too find the lyrics incomprehensible hahaha
this is some great music. sucked me right in on the first listen.
If there were ever to be a proper mix of Funeral Doom and Stoner/Doom, this song would be it.
Porra puta som bem Loko🤘🇧🇷😆🔧
Thank you so much for this beautiful masterpiece. Holy fucking hell.
3 A.M. You keep me alive.
flawdgawd same here
I thought Kurt Cobain was about to fall in...Underneath the bridge / Tarp has sprung a leak / And the animals I've trapped... But it turned out way better.
I've listen to this over and over again
Unfortunately I enjoyed their self titled much more then Soma. Not that this album was bad, but as a fan you hope to enjoy new content more then old, but it's a weird trap. Their old stuff sounded like a ghost singing out of the window of a haunted tavern, this sounded like a metal song. It's innocuous, but as the production value rises, it just doesn't feel as ethereal, as distant, and in turn sounds more forced.
Kyle Grost I agree , especially griefs infernal , way Les ethereal and distant, it's because Garret did the old recordings on a reel to reel , and he mastered them too, now it's studio and outside mastering
See, I think this sounds much more atmospheric, dark, and utterly bleak. The self-titled was a lot more laid back, aside from the ending riffs to Libusen and Winter Sun, which are absolutely monstrous. I think this particular song is able to consistently hold that level of tension and devastation that those two particular moments of the first album were able to pull off.
These guys are everything tonight... What a happy mistake finding this band on here was
Holy Shit I can't describe what I've just heard
God bless that beautiful voice. She sure can sing doom music.
God? Are you sure? :D
true. but her voice is perfectly matched to the music. Thank God. Thank God
@@artemshulz6570 In doom metal? Sure. Religion is explored quite a bit in various ways in doom, and there are, I imagine, various religious people in the genre. One of the first definitively doom albums was called 'Psalm 9' for Christ's sake, with the band who recorded it (Trouble) subsequently being dubbed a Christian metal band. Let's also not forget that the father of metal and the doom riff, Tony Iommi, is a Catholic.
And yes, 3+ year old comment blah blah blah. Felt that I had to point it out.
@@artemshulz6570 This god is good enough for her.
reminds me of "something in the way" by Nirvana
She always said she takes inspiration from the album of her youth, grunge albums too. It makes sense
Boleskin House was Crowley, s. Later in life Jimmy Page bought it.Page also puchased other properties of Crowley also. Page was interested in Crowley for many yrs. I'm not sure if that is still true or not now
Yes It's true, there are many clues that prove Jimmy Page's interest in Alester Crowley
An absolute work of art
You could level a fucking building with that distortion
Some of these lines don't make much sense but here's my transcription of the lyrics:
There must be a season
Where I can rest my bones
Some would trade their freedom
Some would trade their (god?)
(Go light?) up the morning
There's only (dope?) on the floor
(Stinging song?) in the evening
Sleep here and (spread out the dawn?)
There must be a reason
(Nothing won't come staring?)
Crashes into winter
Passes into winter
Take me to your garden
Where I can be alone
Come (light up?) the (morning?)
(dancing?)/(death sat?) down on (your?) floor
(Sleep now?) you're starting to feel it
Sleep (like you?) spread out the dawn
Go light up the morning
(Death sat?) down on your floor
Sleep like a sun in the evening
(Prevent this man from the dawn?)
There must be a season
Where I can rest my bones
Some would trade their freedom
Some would trade their god
Take me to your garden
Where I can be alone
Come and light up the morning
(Death sat down?) on your floor
Sleep like a sun in the evening
Stay here and spread out the dawn
I'm probably totally wrong but I interpret this song as having multiple meanings. The first (literal) meaning is about taking way too much of something in an unfurnished room and (possibly) extreme end-stage depression. There seems to be a lot of astronomical imagery relating to the changing of the seasons which could be referencing the spring and summer equinoxes. "The equinox" was the title of Aleister Crowley's periodical works and as someone already pointed out, Boleskine manor was a home that Aleister Crowley lived in. An interviewer once asked Dorothia what this song was about and she didn't want to explain other than it definitely meant something personal to her. I wish I could hear what she says after "there must be a reason" in the second stanza.
Im waiting for the New Electric Wizard so Im gonna live inside this Doom till then!!
Steven Bailey RIP
the mouse click sounds at the end of the boleskine song are really annoying
Impressive
lyrics?
Windhand does not publish the lyrics to their songs
rip boleskin, however you burned down
But I read that for the twelve or so years he owned it, he spent roughly a total of six weeks inside the house. Wonder why ?
My boxers just shrunk a little....
Wish there was the lyrics for this masterpiece
Same. I've been looking for them for quite a while, even asked them on their Facebook page, but no luck so far.
From what I’ve gathered, the lyrics are deeply personal...so we may never know.
I’ve asked as well...no response.
This is magic.
SUCH A WARM PLACE

djoxfutura There's now a Windhand Live at Roadburn 2014 vinyl

When I listen to this it feels like me n aleister Crowley are sittin round the fireplace smokin a fat bowl out in his cabin in the woods in the middle of a winter storm...just passing the time.
that would be quite a night :D
