When my giant danio got dropsy, I gave it several salt baths, but the ultimate factor was just time. Time in a tank where it wouldn't be bothered. It swam upside down for about 2 weeks, then slowly started getting back upright. He still has a little bit of a "limp", but I have him back in with his 9 brothers. Giant danios live considerably longer than guppies, but I thought that I'd share my experience in case it helps. Hello! thank you so much for posting this video! I've in the fish hobby since November of 2019 so I'm fairly new. I first tried with betta fish and finally got the hang of handling those so I tried venturing out to guppies. I started off with 5 guppies and the last two just died this morning. My heart was broken! I was checking my water every day and didn't have any high levels of ammonia or nitrites and I made sure the water temperature was where it was supposed to be so I didn't know why they were just dying off. This video came up on my recommended page and I wish I had seen it earlier! I noticed my fish's poop was clear but I didn't think much of it, now I know they had an internal parasite and I'm so sad I wasn't able to catch it. I've already flushed all of the fish and I just finished a 100% water change to my tank but I'm scared the worms may still be in the tank. What would you recommend? Should I replace all of the gravel in the tank? Should I add the cleansers into the empty tank to kill whatever worms are left? I just want to prevent any further infection to the future fish I get. Thanks again for the video
Don't replace the stuff in the tank, you've gotta kill the parasite. I'd recommend using a de-worming medication and treating the whole tank. Then repeat the treatment weekly for a couple of weeks to prevent the worms breeding
When my guppies died, i change my tank routine. Change water once a week, give them food once a day since im worried they might overfeeding, take care of my tank water level. I got plants, wood and rocks to take care of the water. My cherry shrimps are in the same tank and they are doing really good and breeding. I am not a big fan of buying fish from big chain stores as they are poor at fish keeping and pretty much share the same water. Independent stores tend to do a better job at that, but the price tag will be a bit more.
That happens most of the time. They could either be sick from the conditions of the pet store tank or die of stress due to the extreme change in water after you bring it home. That’s why pet stores like Petco and Petsmart have a 14 day replacement policy
Thank you for the video. Ive had many guppies die from internal parasites. I just got my hands on prazipro. Do you recommend trying to medicate food or just the entire tank?
My guppies lived for 2 weeks each then would jerk sideways and float to the bottom. I'm not replacing them until i figure out what's going on. None of my other fish are having issues.
@@VanillaSaltedCaramel Just that I lost my single remaining guppy yesterday to the same fate :( I read an article that suggested it may be too much inbreeding
I have kept guppies for about a year. Started off with 10, 1 died about 3 month's later, then 1 last week as it had a little fleshy growth, am wondering if that was a parasite as its poo was white. The other original 8 are fine and added two babies who are loving the tank. I recycle the water regularly and just hope these ones stay healthy. Great advice, thanks👍
So I just bought 3 male guppies last night. I noticed that 1 had a hard time swimming in the bag I got sent home with. I took them home and acclimated them to my tank. This morning I checked on them and the one guppy wasn’t swimming well at all anymore. I isolated him to a small bowl but I’m not sure what is wrong. My tank had been filtering for 3 days. I did buy a live plant and added that last night to the tank as well. The other 2 seem fine, but I don’t think this guy is gonna make it.

I am new to this! After I added the de-chlorine solution to my tap water. Can I add fish right away or I should wait for a bit like a day or two before introducing the fish to the tank? Also, if I would love to introduce new fish, how long should they quarantine to make sure the fish is disease-free.
I was wondering if I could feed my guppies goldfish flakes because I’ve heard that it doesn’t have the vitamins the guppies need but those are the only flakes I have at the moment
XstuddahX I’m sure it is fine for now if your guppies look healthy and are eating. When you get the chance invest in some higher quality food, I recommend frozen bloodworms. Good luck to you:)
I have had great success with guppies until I moved. I used to breed them non-stop, I found the water was quite soft at my new place and they all died off in a few months.
That might be my problem too. After I moved, I used distilled water (zeroTDS) to set up a new tank and for water changes. They were okay in the beginning but soon started getting sick. One day, I noticed half of them had Ich. Treated them and the Ich went away. Then I noticed other symptoms. Tested pH and it was 6.4, not so good for guppies. Plants not doing too well either. Changed back to dechlorinated tap water. Tap water here is very soft. Added a bit of baking soda and then Epsom Salts. Fish seem a bit more comfortable but a couple still appear sickly. Could be worms... The battle continues.
Is it possible you are in closer proximity to a water treatment plant? There used to be a small but mighty aquarium shop in Pittsburgh who often warned me of potential spikes in chlorine and chloramine levels as they were located just a mile from a water treatment plant and would often have issues on days when the water got sanitized. Seachem makes a product called 'Prime' that neutralizes it, so I will add that to a bucket of water before topping off my tanks.
İ am kind of a starter,i had a black/white guppie that had a problem with breathing i didn't understand if it was because it's time came to go(it was a teen) or it had a disease i am not sure because my other fish in the same tank are pretty happy and have a lot of energy so i don't think it was the water quality. From the first day i got him it was not eating too. (İ need an answer for this please 🙏)
I given up on guppies. Too much inbreeding, very weak stock out there mostly. I stick to Endlers or Endlers guppies mix. They are super hardy and I have no issues with them.
I'm just now starting a guppy tank I was wanting to know what was the stuff that I put in it where they got white spots and keep them from getting stick the two medicines
Garlic crush a clove put it in half cup of water in saucepan & bring to a boil turn down & Simmer for 10 mins strain the water of keep in a jar, use a pipette to drop the garlic water on the food & feed them that once a week for there immune system.. hope this helps good luck 🤞
I agree that they are now became fragile, I have 6 guppies where 1 was still remains today. 4 of them dies suddenly, 1 died because he's lethargic and doesn't eat for few days so I euthanize it. I decided to buy 1 last month and died again because he's voracious and got dropsy. Now the 1 remaining hardy Guppy was lucky that I brought him 2 female along with 5 Mollies for a community tank.
@@alexroden1461 I clean my guppy filters at least once a week and change water immediately after the filter intake sponge and media get rinsed out. It's a bit of a pain but it only takes 5 minutes, and it really seems to stave off issues especially when a tank is slightly crowded!
I just got my a male and 2 female guppy’s the smaller female bullied the other female so much that it died , so what should I do . It’s also a 5 gallon tank

It's good that u upgraded the tank size, I would recommend to add plants to absorb the bacteria and for hiding places, vegetables like boiled spinach as a snack, and a algae eater fish and some goldfish. If it looks all that bad and ammonia is high, freshwater conditioner (prime) could be used to make the water safe for fish. message me back!
my oldest guppy is a female. shes probly the best looking one i have and shes a absolute unit. shes almost the size of my golden ram cichlids, they arnt huge but shes way bigger than any other guppy i have by a noticable difference lol. when i got her i bought another female. after they both had a few batches of fry, the other female passed from what i think was some wasting disease. she got really thin and was swimming odd after a few weeks.
My grandma had a guppy problem, so I took some of her guppies. Now we both have a guppy problem. They won't stop giving birth. I took one with a crooked spine. She died early, rest in peace, Finduilas.
Unfortunately it seems that bent spines imply inbreeding and cannot be easily corrected by improved water quality. I have seen them survive for many months but rarely make it to adulthood.
One of my guppies became low in action, it just sat at the bottom for whole day and after 1-2 days it just die. Same happened with other one. What's the problem?
In 2 months, all 5 of my neocaridina shrimp that I bought from the aquarium 2 months ago(after 2 very unsuccessful attempts which created a mass die-off) are alive and healthy, but when I used to keep guppies, 2 died a day after I bought them
Bought two guppies. One was pregnant and gave birth and died. I only found two babies though and one has already died. The other guppy grew a crooked spine and also died. Lady at the shop said they were already quite old when I got them but they barely lasted two weeks and all my other fish seem completely fine? The one surviving baby seems okay too. Hope he makes it. I feel horrible, I dont know what I did wrong.
I have a question that I can't seem to find. I recently found my guppy dead under my rocks in my tank of my guppy and I would like to know why? also I had another guppy and a betta living with it.
I don't know if you'll read this but my guppies are swimming straight up and they are not eating what should i do?and sitting on the floor and dying really fast🥲
I'm medicating 3 white guppies atm for camallanus worms 🤢it is the 2nd day of medication, and then i have to wait 12 days until next dose. 1 female already died a couple of days ago before I had the chance to start the medication. :( 1 of the 3 still has a worm sticking out of her >.< it's frustrating. I hope they make it, levamisole is the ingredient of the meds
My Guppies gave birth then turn really white and clear and skinny and started to die ? Parameters are perfect running buffered hang on the back filter and a Sponge Filter
I recently bought 2 male guppies and they both died within two weeks since I got them, one died 3 days ago and the other died just today. It was my first time buying guppies and probably my last 😜 jk, but it was really terrifying. Now I’m just gonna have to make a 50% water change to make sure my platy and my neon tetras are safe.
I lost 2 Guppies today for an unknow reason I observe the night before that they keep isolating themselve from the other fish they always hiding on the grass and they’re not eating.
I am new in fish keeping hobby. I have two male guppies & one gold molly inside 10 g tank. One of the guppies & Molly seems to enjoy & living happily but one guppy stays at the tops & doesn't make any movement. I also tried putting an airstone but doesn't make any difference. Can anyone help me same him. His name is Sparrow! I don't wanna loose him. Please!
My tank has been cycling for three weeks, I've just gotten guppies... And some of them lost their colors while others didn't... They seem healthy, and they aren't big, they don't hav big fins, they just have a nice small red tail... They don't seem to have worms... I've added them at the same time as I've added plants... Is this the problem? I don't know if my food is good though... It's tetra rubin granules...
Try omega one. It’s a great food. Also give them variety of frozen or live food. My tank also loves sinking wafers. Happy healthy fish will be more vibrant. Also the type of food will definitely effect their color. Good lighting helps too. Good luck.
I use Omega One Super Color Flakes. My guppies and Cherry Shrimps love it. My other Tetras, they are not a real fan of it, but will still eat it somewhat. Flakes are easier to crush for the smaller guys.
Hey guys, I have a weird case, wonder if anyone can help. I got guppies 3 days ago ,4 girls ,3 boys. But 1 male after a few hours started to swim against the stream near the snap back filter. I have the 6 gallon fluval edge . I had the water there over a month before getting them, added aqua safe and live bacteria. Water tested, the shopkeeper said it is text book perfect. So I’m confused. I didn’t overfeed. Only fed once. And that 1 male literally swam up yeh stream 24/7, not exaggerating, I watched it all day and he spent past 2 days swimming fas up the stream. He was very lively, looked really healthy,no deformations or spots, looked very health. Shopkeeper said he was only 3 weeks old. Anyone every experience this?Should I be worried for the other fish?
I recently started my own community tank, and added a group of guppies to it as well -- 4 females, 2 males. (Your gender ratio *should* be at least 2 females for every 1 male, to reduce aggression.) I had one female die overnight, from what I can only presume was shock from being moved into the new tank, but I've had no other mishaps with any of them. A few of my females are starting to look very pregnant now that it's been a few weeks, and they all seem quite healthy! When I first added them all to the tank, though, I noticed similar behaviour myself -- they spent the entire first evening swimming at the very top of the tank, against the bubbling current made by my air stone. I did a water change to make sure it wasn't high ammonia levels or something making them group at the water's surface, but they just kept swimming away. My best guess is it's just a part of guppies exploring their new environment! Some online forums I've read have suggested that they swim against the current to exercise and play. Makes sense enough to me, since all of mine are healthy and I haven't seen them do it since I first brought them home.
@@jadeb.3332 thanks for the reply, it’s been a year since that happened, sadly after day 3 he passed, didn’t eat or anything,I presume it was stress due to moving and the died of exhaustion because he wouldn’t stop swimming against the current. But a year since the tank is great fully planted and doing well, many shrimp and baby guppies.
usually the color of a fish’s poop is the same as the color of their food, so if their food is red and green i wouldn’t worry. but if the feces of your females are white or transparent, they most likely have internal parasites.
I have bought 10 guppies in one week. I bought 5, 3 died, i bought another five and 4 more died. Now I have 3, Im about to give up on guppies altogether. My temp is stable, perfect water perimeters, planted tank, my other tetra fish are doing brilliantly. I have slightly hard, and slightly high pH. Which apparently is where guppies prefer. I have a well cycled tank, even when they died not even a little ammonia spike. Yet, these fish seem to be the most fragile, fish that die for no reason at all. I give up on them honestly.
I am new to this as well. You can try asking the staff at the pet store what could be wrong with the water quality. Maybe you need a certain water conditioner. I have no idea why my guppies keep dying as well :( bought 6, left 3.
@@Alvin-eq5rc so I bought fry that I saw in my local aquarium store. I put them in a separate 2 gallon with a filter. They seem to be doing better than the adults I buy from the store. Maybe the problem is that you need to buy them young or buy a heavily pregnant guppy and collect the fry. My theory is that the fry adapt to the conditions and most of the adults die from shock/ transport. They also seem to be riddled with parasitic worms frequently. But if these fry start giving me issues as well, I will not be repurchasing guppies at all. I'm looking at gobis instead.
Hi there .. I’m sad I’ve lost 4 fishes in recent 2 weeks, 2 guppies and 1 tetra . 2 weeks ago I moved house, because the fish tank is 160L, we used several big containers carried half of the water, and all fishes in one of the container ( stupid it is we did it)… and had to scoop all sand and pebbles then set up in new house after 2 hours.. basically substrate was fucked- I thought since it’s same substrate and water , shouldn’t be an issue … same day the tetra died… that was fm transportation.. and a few days later , noticed one guppy died… I blame stress and us being stupid the way we transferred them .. Then 3 days ago I saw one guppy is swimming slow without mouth opening , with a long thread looking thing near belly, took video, thought to ask fish shop- they suggested to check water quality , to eliminate possibilities - I came home that fish died… I couldn’t save him… 😢 And tonight my fav white guppy died , at the bottom , no skinny, no fat , just normal but mouth open … died and sank at the bottom… 3 days ago as other guppy died I checked water all seems fine … I had worse water before and only 1 died in 1 year .. and now I’m better with water management and having so many died … I may have issue with over feeding , I do 2 times a day… but I do that all the time … And I did gave some boiled peas and broccoli to them .. and I feel stupid and sad and helpless … but what can I do to not letting more die.. Can u help ?
I hate guppies right now.. I'm new to fish keeping...got someone guppies yesterday from my friend.....one was pregnant too.....and today 2 jumped out and died... I'm so sad..and heartbroken ...i thought they jumped because i had more males than females..so i just put the rest of the female seperately....but they jumped Today morning after i turned the flow of my pump
Especially the strong ones! I found that filter nozzel /jet stream can play a roll too. Like if its angled down too steeply . They like too swim against it to show off and sometime over shoot. Since aiming mine more horizontally i havent had an issue
Hi there. He is recommending a type of fish called Endler. These are sometimes called "Endler's guppies" as they are related to guppies. The Endlers have not been in the hobby for as long as guppies have, so they have not been inbred as much. I think that most Endlers available are Endler-guppy hybrids, but still overall have genetic advantages.
#5) because their heart has to circulate blood through those ridiculous tails and finnage they breed for now. They can't even swim right. I try to keep mine small body and spear, oval, round, or sword tail
Guppies are worst fish to invest in , even pet stores loose 80% that come in within day 3 females are more versatile than the males also realize they are not separate before they go to stores and often already pregant when u get them

Would make sense with brand new genes to break the cycle of weak genetics
Main reason is guppies can give birth every 28 days meaning they become calcium deficient and should have a supplement given

I bought some endlers yesterday and putted them with my guppy tank my guppies r fine but 4 endlers tht I bought 2 of them already die I don't know why
I know what you mean I had eight male guppies and I only have four left they just died all of a sudden over the last month but they were only babies
@@alexroden1461 I clean my guppy filters at least once a week and change water immediately after the filter intake sponge and media get rinsed out. It's a bit of a pain but it only takes 5 minutes, and it really seems to stave off issues especially when a tank is slightly crowded!
I upgraded from a 2 gallon betta tank to a 5 gallon tank and was looking at an all female guppy tank.
Skirt tetras is immune to alot of bacteria, its gonna make a good pet fish for new people
Thanks for new knowledge😊
Thanks Jonard
I just got my a male and 2 female guppy’s the smaller female bullied the other female so much that it died , so what should I do . It’s also a 5 gallon tank
Some of my guppies died From becoming skinny now I know reason why😁
@Aryan Vihaanthanks but I don't need tht
I guess my fish got dropsy or swim bladder.😔I just seperated it and treated with himalyan rock salt. Will he get cure??
My guppies is dying , all of them has like white around the mouth, not just guppies, swordtails and Mollies as well what should I do
One of mine are the same way and he stop moving his mouth
I had horrible luck with guppies until I started using API general cure on all new guppies. So far I'm 3 for 4.
Bro am skint as well ATM and don't have money for meds a notice one of my neon got white stringe poop..also noticed they don't like brine shrimps ...please get back to me if U got time
AWESOME VIDEO! great info, I was thinking about making a series like this too, but you killed it, might have to collaborate with you!
Thanks heaps
i’ve had my guppies for a week and they are already sick :( i think they brought the illness from the shop
Agreed. :( Instead, I think my whole fish tank has ammomia + a other diseases! My guppies r about to give birth, and unfortunately the baby's could die & the other fish.
@@panik8867 all my fish died but one and stayed alive for over a year alone but I think he’s just living with his own sickness and it doesn’t get worst jsut got two new guppies and I have a slightly bigger tank so let’s hope I make progress
@@hifly013 oh no so sorry about that. that must've been awful.
It's almost always my male guppies that die
my oldest guppy is a female. shes probly the best looking one i have and shes a absolute unit. shes almost the size of my golden ram cichlids, they arnt huge but shes way bigger than any other guppy i have by a noticable difference lol. when i got her i bought another female. after they both had a few batches of fry, the other female passed from what i think was some wasting disease. she got really thin and was swimming odd after a few weeks.
Cool info 👌
One of my guppies became low in action, it just sat at the bottom for whole day and after 1-2 days it just die. Same happened with other one. What's the problem?
Same problem with me man,
Me too :(
Me too..
In 2 months, all 5 of my neocaridina shrimp that I bought from the aquarium 2 months ago(after 2 very unsuccessful attempts which created a mass die-off) are alive and healthy, but when I used to keep guppies, 2 died a day after I bought them
Thank you for the video 🐠🐟🐡
Thanks Kim
Love your content. So helpful
Thanks Mohammed
My one male guppy died rn so I wanted to see why did he die like his tummy was so big but its from before when we bought him he just had it. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I think it was a female female guppies have some big tummy’s
Bought two guppies. One was pregnant and gave birth and died. I only found two babies though and one has already died. The other guppy grew a crooked spine and also died. Lady at the shop said they were already quite old when I got them but they barely lasted two weeks and all my other fish seem completely fine? The one surviving baby seems okay too. Hope he makes it. I feel horrible, I dont know what I did wrong.
Sorry what’s the name of the more hardy fish?
I have a question that I can't seem to find. I recently found my guppy dead under my rocks in my tank of my guppy and I would like to know why? also I had another guppy and a betta living with it.
betta male pretty agressive and territorial especially with smaller fish
I don't know if you'll read this but my guppies are swimming straight up and they are not eating what should i do?and sitting on the floor and dying really fast🥲
I'm medicating 3 white guppies atm for camallanus worms 🤢it is the 2nd day of medication, and then i have to wait 12 days until next dose. 1 female already died a couple of days ago before I had the chance to start the medication. :(
1 of the 3 still has a worm sticking out of her >.< it's frustrating. I hope they make it, levamisole is the ingredient of the meds
My guppy's intestines are coming out what should I do?
My Guppies gave birth then turn really white and clear and skinny and started to die ? Parameters are perfect running buffered hang on the back filter and a Sponge Filter
Small tiny fish can’t eat big food ?
What plants do you think are good to put in with the guppies ?
I recently bought 2 male guppies and they both died within two weeks since I got them, one died 3 days ago and the other died just today. It was my first time buying guppies and probably my last 😜 jk, but it was really terrifying. Now I’m just gonna have to make a 50% water change to make sure my platy and my neon tetras are safe.
How many guppies can i keep in 10 gallons aquarium?
I lost 2 Guppies today for an unknow reason I observe the night before that they keep isolating themselve from the other fish they always hiding on the grass and they’re not eating.
I am new in fish keeping hobby. I have two male guppies & one gold molly inside 10 g tank. One of the guppies & Molly seems to enjoy & living happily but one guppy stays at the tops & doesn't make any movement. I also tried putting an airstone but doesn't make any difference. Can anyone help me same him. His name is Sparrow! I don't wanna loose him. Please!
Was it dead?
@@johnjohnson7092 yes it died within 2 days but the other two Captain & Jack are still healthy after almost a year.
what were the names of the fish that you said are more hardie than guppies?
Endler Guppies
How do I get rid of brown algae in freshwater
Blackout the aquarium. Turn all the lights off and cover the tank completely for a few days.
Thank you
@@Hilt3 Amano Shrimp eat brown algae. Don't expect the algae will go away instantly, but over time it will help keep the algae levels down. 👍
Do you know how to treat fin rot in guppies 😩
Yes mine lived about a. Year…. 🙁
Thank you 🤞🤞🤞
i just got my guppies on sunday and i got 3 of them, 2 of them were dead today and idk what i did wrong
I now see this comment was made a YEAR ago, not a month ago.... Damn my poor reading comprehension, lol. Sorry about that!
My dragon guppy sleeping under day time what to do
I’ve seen my male poop red and green but my females don’t is something wrong or from the food
usually the color of a fish’s poop is the same as the color of their food, so if their food is red and green i wouldn’t worry. but if the feces of your females are white or transparent, they most likely have internal parasites.
One of my guppies live tosix years
I have bought 10 guppies in one week.
I recently had the same issue. Well established tank and decided to give them a try. I bought 15 3 days ago and so far 4 have died
Hi there .. I’m sad I’ve lost 4 fishes in recent 2 weeks, 2 guppies and 1 tetra . 2 weeks ago I moved house, because the fish tank is 160L, we used several big containers carried half of the water, and all fishes in one of the container ( stupid it is we did it)… and had to scoop all sand and pebbles then set up in new house after 2 hours.. basically substrate was fucked- I thought since it’s same substrate and water , shouldn’t be an issue … same day the tetra died… that was fm transportation.. and a few days later , noticed one guppy died…
I blame stress and us being stupid the way we transferred them ..
Then 3 days ago I saw one guppy is swimming slow without mouth opening , with a long thread looking thing near belly, took video, thought to ask fish shop- they suggested to check water quality , to eliminate possibilities - I came home that fish died… I couldn’t save him… 😢
And tonight my fav white guppy died , at the bottom , no skinny, no fat , just normal but mouth open … died and sank at the bottom…
3 days ago as other guppy died I checked water all seems fine … I had worse water before and only 1 died in 1 year .. and now I’m better with water management and having so many died …
I may have issue with over feeding , I do 2 times a day… but I do that all the time …
And I did gave some boiled peas and broccoli to them .. and I feel stupid and sad and helpless … but what can I do to not letting more die..
Can u help ?
my turquois guppy barley lasted 24h because I have a half moon male betta fish and the guppy's tail got bitten off. 😭😭😭😭😭😭

How old are they?
Ur guppies might be too old too breed or water temperature is the too low

Guppies and corydora panda only dammmm fish that keeps dying on me.
I hate guppies right now.. I'm new to fish keeping...got someone guppies yesterday from my friend.....one was pregnant too.....and today 2 jumped out and died... I'm so sad..and heartbroken ...i thought they jumped because i had more males than females..so i just put the rest of the female seperately....but they jumped Today morning after i turned the flow of my pump

all of my cobra guppies died, only one survived today
My guppies jumps out of the tank :(
Check parameters. Fish jump when they're unhappy with their water sometimes.
Especially the strong ones! I found that filter nozzel /jet stream can play a roll too. Like if its angled down too steeply . They like too swim against it to show off and sometime over shoot. Since aiming mine more horizontally i havent had an issue
@@pubgmobilecombatdiarieslem117 I've seen that too with my bettas.
I can't understand what fish he recommended instead of guppy and closed caption just says "end loss"
