An affectionate portrait celebrating Ireland's best loved city.
Dublin, renowned for it's Culture, Mystical Legend and History, has been encapsulated in picture, song and word.
When you reach a certain age , this song hits deep
The World changes eternally. Hold your home close to your heart 🇮🇪
I genuinely miss Ronnie, he had a rare and beautiful talent.
This song is universal, change is inevitable. Wherever your hometown is you get to a certain age and you look at it the changes that have happened. I look at my hometown and what the last half century has brought it breaks my heart. What I knew and was familiar is all gone, landmarks torn down and places with different names now. In this life change is the only thing that is certain, and not necessarily change for the better.
You are right about this. I came back to my hometown after 20 years and found many familiar spots but many things that held dear memories were just gone. But this is gonna be like this for everyone until the end of time. Now I am going to stay in my hometown and some day, I will be no more. Everything changes.
So true
this is a racist song complaining about black people
Thank you my father was taken from a church in Dublin in February this year and your comment has made me very happy, being a dub it is special to me❤️❤️❤️
It is
Ronnie drew was a legend may he be singing to the angels in heaven rest on peace Ronnie
The great Ronnie Drew. What a voice he had! Thanks for everything. ❤
I'm bawling and I'm just a wee bit Irish. Great singer.
I am not Irish and yet I wish I was born one, for my heart is Irish. Such a beautiful song.
This has brung a tear to my eye. So endearing. Homesickness and lost loves...And watching the world that's so familiar to you change...Lifes rough sometimes. At least this man / band, and the twinkling of the banjo helps you relate.
RONNIE DREW byl vynikající zpěvák. Děkuji a zdravím srdečně.
In a way, Ronnie has become a part of the rare old times himself. I can't think of anyone who represents Dublin now the way Ronnie Drew did.
He's is the rare ol times now lad , and he was a fine ol lad me people are from Derry but he no the north well me father now
Me father new him and the lads . Father was a music to . He spoke brilliant of the lads
There's the old times and then there's the old old times.
Beautiful song sad to think Ronnie is no longer around to sing this anymore but thank god he left this and other works of art behind I feel 10 feet tall when I hear all this music I'm proud to be irish
❤
Could not agree with you more. Ronnie's voice was unique. God rest old son you are still giving me peasure.
Ronnie went way too soon. But boy, what a legacy he left behind.
Ah Ronnie, what a voice.
I love him as my son is a singer , in tune, and with that gravelly voice. Sad now he’s a Marine Superintendent, and living far away. I loved him singing all Ronnie’s songs, - probably his mates hear him when he’s in the pub - sadly I don’t with this Corona. Two years since I’ve seen him. Miss the good times.
I'm a dubliner born an bread this makes me so proud man hairs on neck standing
Met him in a bar in the next village to mine in S Yorkshire, and spoke with him for a a short while. Can't forget those piercing blue eyes and gravel voice!
where was that Peter, Im typing this from Portugal , But from South Yorks Myself
This song fits everyone's past. Very moving and very well sung by Ronnie.
Ronnie drew unbelievable!!!
Makes me proud to be Irish !!!
The Hallowed halls & houses..The haunting ,Children’s rhymes ..That was once,Dublin City..❤️🙏🏼🍀
I'll never sicken of this song, and especially of Ronnie's voice. Before my late father-in-law passed, I was so lucky to be able to immerse myself in Ireland, the music, and the way of life. Nothing will ever beat those days in my life. I learned and absorbed so much, and I'll always be grateful and miss that big bear of a man, who called me his "pal", and "the man for the job" 💚💌🧡
Thanks for sharing
Sends a chill down my spine so homesick for my people
Can't help but become emotional when I hear this. My late father was born in Dublin in 1933,and lived through some of those times, along with all his siblings- all of them long passed now-each of them a true Dub,and all of them, bar my father, spending their entire lives in Dublin. He moved to London in the mid 60's,for work I guess. Such a pity that those times are long gone, but progress is what it is. At least we have the legacy of the Dubliner's music.
No words for this song .. breaks me every time my late fathers song at every session .. find it hard to even hear it now .. even typing this hurts me . I attempted it at his funeral could not finish it ...the rest of the relatives did so then with me .. RIP da . Brilliant ..no words
I miss ireland something bad cant help but get emotional with this
Sending you love and STRENGTH from IRELAND 🍀xxxx
He was a fantastic singer with a brilliant voce I love this song may he rip 🙏❤
God bless you Mary
We are still proud dubs even though its changed we are still proud it's our town no buildings down u won't change our proud heritage
Ronnie is so wonderful. ❤ And his eyes are astonishing. ❤
To have Ronnie Drew and Luke Kelly somehow unite in a group must be the single greatest example of The Stars Aligning in history. Long live the Dubliners.
Easily one of my favourite irish songs but man is it sad. I'm old enough to remember how it was since "progress" came along. Donegal was always the forgotten County so some of old Ireland is retained in the west. I used to joke when I lived in London that me and others were irish boomerangs... we'd sing sad songs about coming home but never return. I came home. 🙂
It's always 'home' to us, isn't it. No matter the years, it's still home. 39 for me. God, where did it go?
Beautiful blue eyes x
Woah. That's a tear jerker
Just listened to Luke Kelly’s version first. And as much as I love Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew’s version of this is fucking magical to a Dublin man 5000 miles from home
Luke Kelley Amazing, Ronnie Drew the dogs Bollox

Ik hou zo van deze muziek en de stem van Ronnie.
Sunday May 1st 11:52 am. I am here thinking of how the world has changed and Dublin is the best example. A lovely humble town a city but since the world has advanced we have declined. No one says hello, the youth are troubled and no one trusts anyone. I wish we were apart of Ireland in the Rare Auld Times
Its called globalism. And its your enemy because it will lead to you being replaced.
Been watching a ton of these videos since hearing about him a couple days ago. Can't help but think they lived in truly the greatest times.
totally agree, it has become like London.
My wife has Irish ancestry and was born on 17th March 1948- St Patricks day. I'm English but when I visited Dublin it felt like home. I just wish I'd been born Irish!
Love this song. Miss my annual trip to dublin. Covid put a stop to that. Look forward to 2021. Of course Dublin has changed. Everywhwre changes and evolves.
Same here unfortunately i dont think i will be back in Ireland now
Rip to Ronnie and all the Dubliners who have passed
Oh and a big shout out to the people who took the time to write out the words for this song so we can sing along I really appreciate that
Beautiful, make me want to cry.
Thanks for listening
@@TheDublinersOfficial Not an Irishman and yet I can't help crying while listening to this wonderful song.
It's as if I'd lived in Dublin all my life!
@@TheDublinersOfficial reminds of my da , feel like crying everything i hear it , im irish born and raised , love my city and country
One of the saddest songs ever written? Greetings from the North.
What a classic song born and raised in the North inner city and brings back so many memories of being with family listening to these balleds sitting in the pubs with my ma absolute classic
Let’s give this group a big hand with resounding applause 👏 that includes Luke Kelly, Ronny Drew, Ciarán Bourk, John Sheahan, Barney McKenna, Bob Lynch,Pat Reilly, Sean Cannon, Eamon Campbell,& Patsy Watchorn! Well back to the sawdust for me at the timberline👻
RIP Ronnie
Brings back memories when Ireland was vibrant, full of characters and laughter, didn't have much, but on the whole we were happy, now everything's sterile, banal, and the young on drugs, killing themselves, it's heartbreaking what's happened to our country. 😪💔😪
RIP amazing song
Tis gold, for sure.
Beautifull. It seems Dublin exists in the Netherlands too.
Lyrics
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines,
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.
Raised on songs and stories, heroes of renown,
The passing tales and glories, that once was Dublin town,
The hallowed halls and houses, the haunting children's rhymes,
That once was Dublin city, in the Rare Oul Times.
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines,
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.
My name it is Sean Dempsey as Dublin as could be
Born hard and late in Pimlico in a house that ceased to be
My trade I was a cooper, lost out to redundancy
Like my house that fell to progress my trade's a memory
And I courted Peggy Dignan, as pretty as you please,
A rogue and child of Mary, from the rebel liberties,
I lost her to a student chap, with skin as black as coal,
When he took her off to Birmingham, she took away my soul.
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines,
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.
The years have made me bitter, the gargle dims me brain
'Cause Dublin keeps on changing and nothing seems the same.
The Pillar and the Met have gone, the Royal long since pulled down
As the grey unyielding concrete makes a city of my Town.
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines,
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.
Fare thee well sweet Anna Liffey, I can no longer stay,
And watch the new glass cages, that spring up along the quay,
My mind's too full of memories, to old to hear new chimes,
I'm a part of what was Dublin, in the Rare Oul Times.
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines,
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines,
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times.

What a voice a mixture of gravel and velvet ☘️
Such a great song. Thanks for sharing. Ronnie Drew RIP
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching.
Wow from sweden👍👍👍
Demolition of landmarks isn't inevitable. Self-destruction is not normal in a truly healthy society. To the contrary, it is a trait only seen in nations under attack and empires in decline. Stand up for your heritage. Do whatever it takes in your town to save the tangible links to our ancestors from the ignorance of today.
Oh those blue eyes❤
R.i.p ronnie drew loved miss ❤ ♥ 💕 😍 💖 💙 ❤ ♥ by so many alway,s in our heart,s till we meet again soon xxxxxxx

RIP. Pete St. John
Ronnie was well loved by my gran and was always played in my Grans house before she became ill. He was my motivation to go over the Irish Sea and explore where my roots began I’ve always wanted to visit Dublin but never got the chance to but after listening to the Dubliners and the Irish music then I made sure it would finally happen. I’m proud of my Irish heritage and on Monday I will be able to explore further into how my ancestors lived. Thank you Ireland for bringing so much joy to my life. 🇮🇪☘️
Bingo from sweden wow tack 👍👍👍

When you know 😢🇮🇪
Rest easy Henny ❤
Live Dublin
With all relatives now dead I can relate.
I got this song played at my Da's funeral as he was one of the last of that "rare oul times" generation of Dubs. Thinking back, I really resent the priest for telling a generic story about himself and this song in his eulogy. I feel like he stole my Da's last farewell.
The song was for your Dad. No one can take that from him or you
What have they done to this town...
His eyes
Whats the name of the song at the end with the women singing with Ronnie?
Especially poignant after what went on in Dublin yesterday
Ronnie drew lebt EWIG❤
Dublin really has changed so much.. especially in the last 20 years. Becoming less and less Irish by the year.
as long as its benefitting "muh economy"
@@ogop8201 globalism trash
Same with every western city. Buildings get higher and higher cutting out sunlight, and the indigenous people flee to the suburbs or countryside. Cities are for the immigrants.
Full of foreigners
Thats the globalist plan.
👍
If he could see ot now
😩
Ronnie what voice what year roughly was this year recorded
It was recorded in 1988 on Good Friday
@@TheDublinersOfficial thank for that .
@@TheDublinersOfficial whats the name of the song at the end with the women singing

Rare old Dublin times.... ...i adore Ireland and Dublin, because thats where my Mom is from and my Grandma. My amazing strong Grandma Fitzpatrick who went to the hospital to give birth
and the nuns told her she was not welcome because she was there without a male. she told them you better let me in or ill give birth on your doorstep! who are these self righteous nuns that could judge other people so much???? id really like to have a conversation with them. fecking sods.
Sending you love and STRENGTH FROM IRELAND 🍀x x
We all have a LIFE, all we can do is our best xxx
Men of men
I dont know what is it... but we finns feel always some brotherhood with the irish... maybe its because of shitty neighbours??
And now Dublins changed more than ever. Full of non indigenous Irish. Heartbreaking
@wipsypap Hibernia means land of the winter you absolute fool. And there is packs of drugged up Afghanis wandering central Dublin all day and night making native Woman afraid to leave their homes.
@@wipsypap and I have never heard anybody in Ireland rever to ourselves as Hibernians 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Where did you pluck that from 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Dublin is a European City with every nationality diluting the Irish culture If you are happy carry on If not leave the EU and regain your Irishness It’s not too late
I think it is! Ireland is lost and most Irish people don't seem to notice or care! Sold their country for easy money! Sad when you consider how many of our ancestors fought and died for Irish Independence! We are now a vassal state!
10 years ago here in belfast there wasn't one black or Arab to be seen, now it's full of them, they're shipping the overload in from England, it's getting scary.
Shut up you fascist creep
When McGregor comes back he's coming out to this classic
