My favorite shot of my dog is from a fisheye lens, a 12mm one. I got a shot with his big snout right in the center when he went to sniff the lens 😂 I might have to pick one up because it's so affordable. I've been loving Laowa lenses so much. They're all so unique, and I haven't been disappointed in quality like I thought I would.
I ordered one for my Canon RP, and am awaiting it being available . . . Currently my widest lens is the EF 17-40mm, so this is going to be a whole new experience.
Just ordered one of these today. I was going to get the apsc version for my new Sony A7RV and put the camera in crop mode, but at the last second decided to get the micro four thirds version and use it on my Olympus EM1-MIII. Looks like a really fun lens to play with and at only $149 it's not going to break the bank and won't disappoint me too much if I don't like it.
Glad to hear! Yeah, it's a great little lens, definitely worth it, even just to get a good laugh at some of the images it takes. Still a very unique lens that I enjoy shooting with to this day!
Hopefully, if someone is buying a lens with a 220 degree FOV, they pretty much expect, 220 degrees FOV. So, thats a bit hard to say thats the weakness of the lens. 360 / VR180 PHOTOGRAPHY is what so many people are doing with this mostly. Property photos and stuff.
Looks great - but of all lens mount options, the one that I would find most useful is not there. Good old EF mount would allow me to use it on... let me see... 6 cameras I get to use. One of which, with native EF mount, has internal ND filters. I think that's an unfortunate omission, unless there's a solid technical reason for it like flange distance.
Is it possible to produce a correct 360 degree in autopano giga software by taking two photos? I mean, do 2 photos with a 210 degree angle overlap this lens well?
Great review. curious if the 1.6x crop in 4k 120 on the new fx 30 would crop this lens into a full frame... if it does this might be a killer lens to use as a fisheye in action sports.
Hey! I just tested it out doing a sort of mockup in premiere! I took the aps-c footage from the a6400 and zoomed it to 160% mimicking the additional 1.6x crop that the fx30 would get doing 4k120, and it still has some of the black corners showing. I have to zoom it in to 200% or 2x crop on the a6400 footage to completely remove the black circle in the footage. If you shot 4k120 on the fx30, you'd have to zoom the footage in to 130% roughly to remove the circle, but I bet it would still look great because the image is already getting downscaled from 6k.

Also, I saw the bell tower and knew right away it was Balboa Park lol Did my undergrad at UCSD and heading down to SDSU for my MFA in film in a few months! Are you based in SD?

@@KazCanning Sony a6400, shooting in standard 16:9 i believe. Now that i think about it, i believe I was in 120fps which has a slight crop factor… I switch it when I get the chance and see if it fixes!
@@isaac.schultz awesome!! Glad it works!! A little pro tip with the cropped footage, you can always make a black circular mask over your cropped slow mo footage to make it still look perfectly circular!
Unfortunately, I do not. I know this lens is available in the canon ef-m mount, but searching around online, there isn't anything that can make the fully circular image on the blackmagic 6k, as far as I know. I will check more though, and let you know if I can find anything else
Yepp, this lens will work in crop mode on the a7iii. I would suggest turning off the IBIS in the a7iii first though, as it will not work well with this lens.

Do you know any circular fish lens for EF Mount.. I need it for an blackmagic 6k...Thanks.

If you're using this lens for astrophotography, it would be best to have it set to f 2.8 and focus to infinity!
how will work rhis lens in a sony a7 iii crop mode for a 360 virtual tour, what sarp lens can you recommend for that in specific (10-20mm)?
Yepp, this lens will work in crop mode on the a7iii. I would suggest turning off the IBIS in the a7iii first though, as it will not work well with this lens.
