I never thought to use mortar. I was looking for something that I could use that would withstand the high heat of my monitor enclosure. This is fantastic.
Thank you so much! I am in the middle of building a bearded dragon enclosure and just got the foam down. I learned a lot from your video and feel inspired! Love the chickens and how positive and encouraging you are :)
This is great! I’m upgrading my bearded dragons enclosure soon so I might give this a try! She really enjoys climbing on stuff so this would be nice for her
This is great thanks so much. My 120 gal for my kingsnake is Phalazoo nice sliding glass doors but the PVC backing sucks. Because it's not entirely thick, sturdy. I'll probably do a baseboard lighter in weight. I doubt I could fasten it with drill. Ruin the back . Recommendations for lightweight board, what material Any non-toxic substance to make sure it sticks to PVC? Thank you
very cool, i bet that mortar makes the build very heavy though. I'm thinking of doing something similar to this on my viv but maybe swaping the mortar out for plaster mixed with sand or something.
Looks great. Working on a full terrarium right now. 3 sides and a floor covered in foam and now doing mortar. Getting heavy at this point since I am almost empty of the 60lbs bag. I am trying to find an alternative to that crommelin pond sealer in USA.

Greetings Coop, I hope all is well. Fantastic video; thank you for posting it. After painting this background, do you seal the paint with anything? If so, what did you go with? Many thanks,
You want to look up VOC content of anything you use inside. Look for low VOC and water based stuff. Everything else gives off gas and should be cured for very long time.
I know this is an older vid , but I'm hoping for a response as I followed this guide basically step by step. Will this be used in a bio set up ( or would it be safe in bio assuming it might be touching substrate )?
I know this was a year ago, but you could use foam board and rough cut the shapes you want, and the flat sides can be applied to the plywood first then use the foam around it to shape those platforms into the background
Hey cooper, is the smell that the pond sealer gives off harmful to the lizards at all? Followed your tutorial and made a background myself, but found since ive put it in the enclosure and its had heat to it, it is giving off a bit of a smell which im pretty sure is from the pond sealer.
Incredible tutorial, Coop! I'll be following this for sure!

I don't recall what materials you used or methods, I just watched you make it no tutorial just a timelapse
it looks cooI but i know that's the reason I watched this video he doesn't tell you the paint colors or any of the materials he used
i’ll have to talk to my mum and see if we can try it out since i’m upgrading my beardies enclosure soon 😂
Did you make this terrarium?
Love your channel
Thanks! Appreciate you watching all the time!
If I wanted to add ledges that would stick out would the foam make the the wood that holding it heavier ?
This is great! Is there a reason it wasn’t all the way to the top and a bit of space left?
Just how I wanted it at the time!
Awesome background, which ratio do you use for your mortar mixture ?
I no longer use this method I prefer using a sand and cement mix. check out my gillens monitor setup video to see how i make backgrounds now!
What brad of paint did you use?
Did you coat it with anything after painting to make it easier to wipe over?
great vid
Is it normal for expanding foam to still smell a bit like chemicals after drying for 4 days of drying?
Can you make a easy to clean floor for us !!!!
Is it water proof
Love it mate looks awesome you’ve got me hooked lol
Will this stick to cardboard?
Awesome video Coop!
Thanks man! Naturalistic setups for the win

Hey Coop, this helps a lot and just subbed, quick question, what colour acrylics did u use and did u mix them with anything or add water, cheers.
what did you use at the end as i assume thats what you used to protect the paint?
what kind of acrylic paint did you use?
Anyone know how to get a hold of pond sealer that's not crazy expensive?
Really helpful, thanks a lot!!!
What is these materials what he use?
Nevermind just saw some of these ha. How do you make huge ones with bigger ledges for certain Monitors like Laces for example?

I didnt for this one but you could put clear pond sealer on it
Would the plyboard stick the Same for a glass tank? I've got loctite
The design is great, but i was wondering if the chimicals used can hurt the lizzard

Just would love to know where you got the pond sealer where did you buy that from?
bunnings!
Another awesome video cheers
Also is that 3 ply ply wood
Awesome!
Looks great! How much did it weigh boss?
Not too sure. Certainly had a bit of weight due to the mortar but not too bad
Would you seal the finish product after you paint it or not
What breed of chickens you got?!

Hi I was wondering if you let the pond sealer cure before you painted it or if you painted while the sealer was still wet?
let it cure first
I loved the tutorial but I wish there were product links
Thanks alot👍
Im guessing your real name is cooper, if so thats my name too. Great vid also
Hey Coop what's the reason for changing from using the liquid sandstone to the pond sealer?
No reason! Just wanted to try a different technique! Both work great along with many other ways I havent shown
I'm almost done with my first Rockwall background but think I've started to dark with the paint 😁
Thanks. How do you make larger platforms in the wall, so a adult bearded dragon can walk on it and can walk on different hights.
I know this was a year ago, but you could use foam board and rough cut the shapes you want, and the flat sides can be applied to the plywood first then use the foam around it to shape those platforms into the background
Do you have to use the sealant? That one is not available in U.S. Is there a similar product
I dont use sealant on dry enclosures. If i was in the US i would use drylok on all my enclosures
@@coopsreptiles2588 thx you! Attempting one these backgrounds this weekend..🙂
