Hi, I'm a 17 yr old farmer from Ireland and your videos contain a lot of invaluable information regarding profitability of small farms, (although US and Irish agriculture differ a lot). I would love to go down a similar route to what you have done ie, selling direct to consumers. I'm not on a big farm and have about 30 acres to start on so finding a niche, like organic, grass fed beef, would be needed in order to make it sustainable and profitable. Seeing you do it makes me think it's possible, so thanks for all of your videos. Daire
love the old farmalls, dad farmed with a M when i was growing up. he also had a farmall regular that just set so when i was about 12 i pulled it out and got it running and helped around the farm with it doing hay, plowing and cultivating.
Hello Mr Pete, I just come across this video, ive just picked up a farmall regular and f20 to add to the iH collection here. Thanks for all the videos you provide. Quality viewing 👌
You are one of the best at explaining technical information in a way that that anyone can understand that I have ever seen. Thank you for your videos and fantastic knowledge on these subjects.
Real good video on the variety of tractors and the years. I am a a real IHC fan grew up with them ,super WD9 superWD6 superMD superA 560 diesel 806 diesel all great tractors of their time!👍
Hi I know you might not want to but have you ever thought about a Q/A column you are so good at it and it seems than us old guys are gone it will such a waste of knowledge, I know there are those that will comment on how their way is the better way or the wright way like the one about Teflon tape I worked building hydraulic components I'm with you as long as you wrap behind the first or second thread you will never have trouble, Like dad said, jus getter done. Dennis. Burson CA p.s. love my super C.
My dad always says the Cub was used to mow golf courses back in the day. He had one the same year as yours (I can tell by the grille and whatnot), he had it for 30 years. I learned to drive on it.
As a boy on my uncle's 100 acre farm in the early '60's I would spend my summers. I remember him being in love with his McCormick W4 tractor. Pleasant memories.
Wow, a 656 Hydro. I don't know anybody still using one of those where I live. The hills were too steep for them around here and people tried to plow with them. They were all scrapped by the time I came around. (37 years ago). It's great to see one still working.
There's quite a few still in use around here. Gear drives are definitely more common though. I'd probably be running a gear drive if I had to do tillage with it.
Because of the mechanical losses a hydro has they don't pull nearly as hard as a gear drive 656. For pto work they're great and as he stated, that one spent most of it's days on a sawmill
Another wonderful video! I grew up in south Louisiana in the 80's and 90's. We helped different people that owned 30 to 500 head of momma cows (in exchange for hay for our horses). They had tractors from the 70's and earlier. Case, White, International, Oliver, David Brown, Massey, and there was probably a Ford amongst those well used tractors too. Your 650's remind me a lot of those tractors they used.
It occurred to me recently, that a review of all your tractors and their uses would be interesting. After watching this video, it occurred to me that I had already seen it. Memory, appreciate it you younguns!
Thanks Larry! It's a subject I always wanted to do more videos on, but I didn't think the channel's audience would appreciate them. I guess that's changed now!
We use D15 and WD45 Allis Chalmers on Our farm. Multiple Narrow front end and 1 wide. Then one has a sickle bar on the side of the tractor instead of the back like you have. I love Allis Chalmers so much. We use a 6080 Allis to bale small square bales with New Holland 570 Square Baler with me stacking in the wagon. But we use a gehl discbine or Brush hog to mow the fields and use the same New holland rake and same basic tedder you have. Then we have 8030 that barely gets used. So nice watching you with your Classic tractors is lovely. So refreshing to see someone make videos and farming using classic irons out here. New equipment can be so expensive. Thanks for the tour and keep it going. From NorthWest Pennsylvania
Excellent tutorial video, very interesting. My family used IH Farmall equipment in the 60's to farm my grandparents 160 acres. IH Farmall's have a special place in my heart. Thank you for taking the time to post this video.
Thanks for showing us your tractors. There always seems to be another Farmall hiding in a shed or under something outside. The old tractors are a very important part of getting the work done on a small farm without over capitalising. Dave.
I've been watching for the last 2 years and somehow I missed this one. I loved the breakdown, and as always appreciate your humble acknowledgement that not ALL things on a farm or ranch are based solely on the $. Some things need to be done for a peace of mind. I'm an engineer...Mechanical, so I'm always tinkering. I purchased a small country for my retirement stay (653 Acres +/- ) for elbow room away from people. I wanted to go back to ranching cattle as I did as a kid. I buy all kinds of broken crap or get it given to me, just to stick in my shop to work on with coffee in the morning. I for one loved the complete breakdown and restore of the Farm H. Keep making those, too much fun.
Love these videos! My wife and I started raising chickens and buying a hog and beef every year when we first got married but for the last 3 years we have been raising beef, chickens, turkeys, and grow a garden without a tractor. This year we were blessed to get a tractor Kubota M4030SU and I’m learning how to hook up the attachments and how to do basic Maintenance ext. working with the tractor and learning more and more about them the more I wanna get another lol. Thanks for sharing
Wow! I've started watching your videos not long ago but I just love tripping across the tractor stuff. As an ex- spare parts IH guy, I remember many of these models from those good old days. Someone at work recently mentioned about the Gas/Diesel tractor & of course I jumped into the conversation with what info I knew which both blew them away but also shut up my boss as he "thought" he knew everything about tractors. I love my old Inters & having worked at a couple of dealerships many years ago you always bring back my memories just flooding back about the smaller/older models (most of the local stuff was for market gardeners or small acreage) The 2 & 3 Point linkage was a huge turning point in agriculture that many would not understand. I certainly remember when we got our first adjustable linkage system on a tractor on our farm as a child, we felt very lucky to even have the "luxury" of having it! Hydraulics was another Game changer back in those days. Thanks Heaps for the info & memories!!
I grew up on a dairy farm out near Cooperstown and have the same love for the old Farmall tractors. My grandfather had a Farmall 706 with an IH 2000 loader that worked great for the day to day tasks. We used an IH 826 for bailing, chopping corn and plowing with a 4 bottom Oliver plow. We also had a Farmall C and a Ford 9N that 2 of my Uncle's restored after the cows were sold off. I appreciate what you do and I hope to be back in the small farm saddle in a similar manner in the near future as well. Take care!
When I was a kid ('60s and '70s), my dad had a 12 hp Massey-Harris Pony, and we worked 10 acres of hard clay with it. I walked many a mile behind an old horse drawn breaking plow, and we had a section of spring tooth harrow and an old cultivator. We raised tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and other truck patch vegetables, and I sweated enough to fill a pond. Wish I still had the old gal...
Just found your channel a couple weeks ago and so thankful i did! We are not farming or homesteading yet , but while finding our place i am educating myself as much as possible. I have not seen anything yet that i did not benefit in some way from watching and listening to you. Just wanted to say thanks and love your channel!
Love your dedication to IHC tractors. n my early years I worked on my uncles farm in the summers. I was 12-13 yeas old and summerfallowing with a M and a 14 ft. cultivator. Later we moved up to a 560 diesel. What a jump. My first real job after completing a one year course in heavy duty mechanics a farm equipment service man for IHC Canada working with dealers and farmers mostly on warranty work Keep up your interesting videos and rebuilding those old workhorses..
Love our passion for old tractors !! U know the history of the manufacturing and the reason why and how the tractor was built. My dad grow up on a farm and he told me stories like u ur videos!!
Who would have thought a video game would have led to my love for old tractors. If I ever get enough money, I'm going all in on a small farm. Excellent video.
I love seeing the old IH tractors!! My father worked for Harvester is entire career as a machinist. He could make anything. You and your father remind me of him. I love your videos and your information/education!! Keep the videos coming ❤️❤️😊
Thanks for showing your tractors. I have a green tractor. I do have an IH all purpose plow. It was in great shape. I did repaint it IH red and replaced the plow points. I found some nice IH decals for it. I’m really proud of it. It is made of good steel. Plows well!
I really enjoyed the history lesson on tractors. These old trucks and tractors were built to last long. Absolutely LOVE them! You should send video to Farmall, and show them your working tractor museum. Maybe they have some vintage parts to send you! You should also do a book or calendar of your tractors, with some history, and sell them to buy more tractor stuff!
I stumbled upon your channel and am glad I did. Haven't been on a tractor since I was a kid in the sixties so I am sitting here with a SE grin on my face.
Our H is 80 years old and still works as well as the day it was made, and IH thought they were building tractors for a 10 year service life! I can't get more than 3 years out of a new washing machine without some part going bad that costs more to replace than the machine costs new.
"If it ain't red, keep it in the shed." My grandpa's very first tractor was a Farmall F-14 on steel wheels. (Probably because his rival brother got a John Deere tractor.) He later got 2 H's and 2 M's. My Dad even wrote International Harvester back in 1964 telling them about how reliable their Farmall tractors were and they sent him a beautiful all color photo catalog of EVERY item they sold. When Dad got home from the Army he used the money he'd saved up and bought a 706 diesel with an add on blower. It was quite a jump between it and the old inline 4 cylinder gas engines he was used to. Traded it 10 years later for an 856 that I grew up on along with an M and 400 that we still have. A few years ago Dad got the 1086 that he'd always wanted. I'd like to get him the 560 he wanted as a teenager. RIP International Harvester. You were a great company that became like part of the family as one tractor was passed down 3 or 4 generations in the same family. They overproduced tractors during the 70's and the agriculture economy was awful the entire 80's decade. Things looked on the up and up for them during the early 80's but a worker's strike was the final nail in the coffin.
I learned to drive tractor on a Super C tractor when I was about 6-7. That tractor steered really easy, great for backing up wagons. We had a sickle mower which fit on the fast hitch. Good video, brought back memories.
Just loved your video - I am 61, and have used several of the tractors you have plus a few others. My dad was a IH die hard so that is what we had. Brings back a lot of fond memories. Moved to the big city but as my "day job" is winding down, hoping to buy a small farm in the near term. Mostly as a hobby, as not interested in working 7 days a week as you noted in some of your other videos. Keep up the good work!
HA! That's funny! I grew up on a farm in the 60's, primarily. My dad would buy old F-20 Farmalls. Sometimes the engines would be seized and we would brake it loose, then go to Farm & Fleet and get a set of over sized sleeves and pistons for it. He really thought this was big time. My brother took one of them to Ag class at HS and did, what we would call today, a restoration. Not only sleeves and pistons, but milled the head, paint, decals...everything. Turned out beautifully. Eventually my brother bought a 560 diesel which really made us look rich...lol.
Love your comment about the 'Armstrong' starting system. Reminds me of one day the neighbor (who kinda thought he was hot stuff) came over while we were cleaning the barn. Asked my dad where our barn cleaner was. My dad pointed to the shovel on the wall and said, "right there, it's an Armstrong".
I inherited an IH 656 recently, in good shape. Still learning all the maintenance, but it's very useful around my property. Those old gasoline powered tractors can do a lot of work!
You blew it Pete! if anything went wrong today, you could have used the line "Foiled again !" but you didn't!. oh well, thanks for spreading all of your knowledge and wealth, even the stuff on the fields. Have a great day!.
Just watched your ‘old tractors’ video. Loved it! Noticed that you just posted it only minute prior. I’m new to farming, in Iowa; Iowa born, but spent adult life away from it all. Retired now, recently bought small farm, and also bought old equipment, to include 1947 Farmall H model, and 1981 IH 1586 with front loader. The 1586 is my hay mowing and baling beast. The H is my hay rack tractor; and now will be my wagon pulling tractor! 👍 I really enjoyed your quick tour of your tractor collection! I’m a new subscriber; really enjoying the channel. Keep up the great work. God bless.
Glad to see those old girls running. Nice to see your so proud of them. They look awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy you liked the family Josh!

Hello from Monaghan!
I am surprised you can source parts.
Thank you for saving those old American tractors!
Fun to look back on this after seeing all the work you've done to restore some of them.

love the old farmalls, dad farmed with a M when i was growing up. he also had a farmall regular that just set so when i was about 12 i pulled it out and got it running and helped around the farm with it doing hay, plowing and cultivating.

Go ahead, give us longer videos. We really don't mind.
Completely agree!

For a bunch of Farmalls, you got a really nice collection. I really like your F20 and your 10-20!
Just purchased 25 acres 15 field 10 woods and brush hogged it building pole barn and fixing tractors. Life is good!
I appreciate the video. Nice honest conversation

Nice F20. I finished one last winter. Mine is a 37' narrow tread on rubber just like yours.
Love farmall tractors and Oliver tractor thanks for the history lesson on Farmalls thank tou
16:24 "The world's not always dictated by what's economically best." Well said.
Enjoy your videos so much !! Love that 656 !! Thank you so much !!
What a fantastic collection. Love to see the old equipment being brought back to life.
Very good

Very cool collection thanks for sharing it.
Another wonderful video
Your right 🚜 👍 old is always better.
I'm just jumping on as a new viewer. Really enjoy what your doing.
Pete is always enjoyable when you talk about all that old time equipment.
Thanks Larry! It's a subject I always wanted to do more videos on, but I didn't think the channel's audience would appreciate them. I guess that's changed now!
Thanks. Loved to hear that F-20 run. They had a sound of their own.

Super C tractors ran entire farms at one point in time. Love the 504 loader 👍
Hi FF! Isn't it amazing how the site of red paint can bring us all together? "Let's go, let's grow!" 😁👍👍
Oh my!!! You could open a museum!!! Very nice. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for posting this, it was very calm and a great mix of info and story time.
Enjoyed your video. Best explanation I've seen on the history of the 2-point and 3-point hitches.
Can't wait to see the restoration of the cub!

Hey there P&H. Pete your passion for a Farmall really came through in this vlog!!!!! Thank you again.
You're welcome Theresa!

Farmall is gone; they’re case IH now.
@@fantump00p3r4 that is kind of sad, to see an icon disappear
Back in the 60's when I oh 13 year old. on our 40 acre share cropping farm our Farmall was a B, man what a working mule.
Collecting tractors never hurts! I have 17 or 18 lol
Hi David, you better check; it could be 20 or 25...these old tractors have a tendency to multiply.
You and your family are the greatest.
I stumbled upon your channel and am glad I did. Haven't been on a tractor since I was a kid in the sixties so I am sitting here with a SE grin on my face.
Love your old iron!
Spent many thousands of hours on Farmall tractors.
I could watch this video over and over. I've never owned a tractor but i sure do geek out on these old work horses
Love the old iron Pete!!! You are right the new ones may have bells and whistles but will never last as long as reliable.
Our H is 80 years old and still works as well as the day it was made, and IH thought they were building tractors for a 10 year service life! I can't get more than 3 years out of a new washing machine without some part going bad that costs more to replace than the machine costs new.

Great story Tom! My Dad ran the first 560 in our area on a neighbor's farm when he was in high school, and has loved them ever since.
I learned to drive tractor on a Super C tractor when I was about 6-7. That tractor steered really easy, great for backing up wagons. We had a sickle mower which fit on the fast hitch. Good video, brought back memories.
The first tractor I ever used was a Farmall F-20. That was in the mid-60s. It's good to see one that still runs!
You are a happy man. Greetings from Serbia!
Awesome thanks for sharing your knowledge so glad to see somebody live these old tractors that made america great thanks
Just loved your video - I am 61, and have used several of the tractors you have plus a few others. My dad was a IH die hard so that is what we had. Brings back a lot of fond memories. At 8:10 that start up is the same as starting up a Army humvee. No key needed.

Love that old equipment! My grandpa had an H and Super C just like yours. Hearing that Super C fire up gave me goosebumps!
What an excellent speaker! He would make a great mechanical arts teacher with his knowledge base.
I inherited an IH 656 recently, in good shape. Still learning all the maintenance, but it's very useful around my property. Those old gasoline powered tractors can do a lot of work!
Thank you for buying old IH units and keeping them running besides enjoying the.
Love all the tractors!! Good video
You blew it Pete! if anything went wrong today, you could have used the line "Foiled again !" but you didn't!. oh well, thanks for spreading all of your knowledge and wealth, even the stuff on the fields. Have a great day!.
excellent info and views thanks ,,!!
Great collection of vintage IH tractors and background knowledge.
I really enjoyed your quick tour of your tractor collection!
I’m a new subscriber; really enjoying the channel. Keep up the great work. God bless.
Hi Mark, 1586 is a beast! They're not very common around here. Thanks for watching!
I was going to pass up on this channel, then the tractors started coming out. Boom!
Hi Edgar, glad you hung around!
Awesome video nice to learn a little about your fleet
Love all the old tractors!
