You try speaking Swedish for any duration of time and let's see how good you get... Swedish is a very hard language to learn for English speaking and vice versa, so the fact that both Liddy and Holms learned to speak it fluently is more than most can grapple, language wise! Even polyglots have trouble learning Swedish because it takes an element of musicality cause it's very tonal- kind of like Chinese- that way, to some extent...
I am a lifelong Blackhawk fan(First NHL game 1959 Wings vs Hawks) I can honestly say without a doubt other than Orr, Lidstrom is the best defensemen I have EVER seen play. He made not only my Hawks but just about everyone look silly. No showboat ,no dirty play just always in position and hockey smarts like no other.
It is not hard to say that. I am old enough to have seen them both play. Orr could play today without trouble as he skated so much better than those of his time. It is just my opinion.
+dbn52 It's not really realistic to think that the guys like Orr could be what he was if he had played today. A lot of guys dominated but very likely wouldn't even stand a chance against modern opposition. Bjorn Borg? Dominated Tennis. He wouldn't take a single set against the top guys today. And one of the most outstanding athletes in track and field, Michael Johnson, saw his record being beaten by more than a second on 200m. No one even thought that it could be done. So, no, Orr wouldn't make it today. Nostalgia is nice but it is what it is.
You are correct that Orr wouldn't be as dominate if he played now.His lateral skating alone would allow him to be a above average skater even now. But that being said his hockey smarts would help him keep up. Just to be clear Lidstrom was the smartest hockey player I have ever seen. Yes smartest. As a lifelong Hawk fan I have no trouble saying that.
This is how I felt for my first decade and a half as a young Chicago fan. Such a potent mixture of resentment and admiration. Congrats to #5 on the jersey retirement. One of the greatest ever.
Norris was being modest and made Liddy feel more confident and stronger in his own defensive game- that year he won his first Norris trophy and never stopped after Chuck's influence... BTW: Chuck is so modest he even neglected to tell Liddy the story about how the "Best Defenseman" trophy got his name... What a lucky man to have such a man for Liddy to look up to as Chuck!
Oh Homer I freakin love you! And I dont know what to say about Nick. He is 41 there is no way he should still be as amazing as he is, but he is. Absolutely the Perfect Human.
Most Chicago Blackhawk fans would say he is "Damn Perfect". We think Detroit sucks but only totally idiots would not say Nick is the best defensemen in the last 20 yrs. I have enough trouble finding a reason for cheering against Zetterberg and Datsuyk. Go Hawks.
Steve Yzerman is even more respected by his teammates and hockey community in general! But that captain doesn't take away from the other... Like Star Trek, this galactic enterprise has room for more than one captain- just not at the same time (or movie/show!)
No! But dam close! Ya just got ta love Homer, what an unsung hero. He played that position better than anybody ever did. God bless both these human beings.
@SkiLLzZ4SuRe Sweden is the third ranked hockey nation in the world after Canada and Russia, not strange then that a NHL team could carry all the way through the league and the finals consisting mostly of Swedes. I remember a Canadian coach not long ago that was worried when facing Sweden because he said that we are even more unstoppable than the Russians when we gain momentum on the ice. We definitly have equally skilled players compared to Russia and Canada but not as many as they have.
Rumour had it, that when he went to the bathroom he left the seat up afterwards and, didn't flush or wash his hands after doing the nasty. And the smell, all those Swedish meatballs he eats!
he broke his hand one in a snowmobiling accident. he has a cottage about 2 doors down from a buddy of myn that i go to every year. apparently they all just laughed at him when it happened lol
I remember after Sweden won gold at the Turin olympics in 06, the Red Wings nearly had to forfeit their first game back because half the team was still drunk on a flight over the Atlantic and didn’t make it back in time.
Well last year is gunna be the last time we see the good ol' players like Lidstrom Holmstrom. The last players from the Avs Wings rivalry.. Very sad times.
this is not the whole clip? I remember they found an really old game where Lidström had a bad night and -4 that game, but they had to go back like an decade or so
Lidstrom still wont share his Norris trophies with me
You guys are the best!
This quote killed me. Lol. Mr Selfish
Hahaha best reply! I only share Nicks surename though, i'm just a mortal man :D
@@RobertLidstroem You don't even share his sir name... His is "Lidstrom... You're one letter away from perfection... CLOSE BUT NO PERFECTION FOR YOU!
The fact that Homer and Lidström have lived in America the same amount of time makes it soooo fucking funny that Homers english still is Swenglish

its kinda hard to say orr was the best ever since he played in a different time. imo

makes fun of homer and a Norris hog, what a bastard..lol
This is how I felt for my first decade and a half as a young Chicago fan. Such a potent mixture of resentment and admiration. Congrats to #5 on the jersey retirement. One of the greatest ever.
Chuck Norris asked Nick Lidstrom to teach him defense.
Norris was being modest and made Liddy feel more confident and stronger in his own defensive game- that year he won his first Norris trophy and never stopped after Chuck's influence...

I know this video is old but I have watched this video like 132 times and I will never stop

He won't share his Norris Trophies.
Selfish.
holmström made my laugh with tears
I’ve still yet to see a player so unanimously beloved and respected by the entire hockey world like Nick Lidstrom
Steve Yzerman is even more respected by his teammates and hockey community in general! But that captain doesn't take away from the other... Like Star Trek, this galactic enterprise has room for more than one captain- just not at the same time (or movie/show!)
This was grreeaaat! (And I'm a total Avs fan. Haha)
No! But dam close!
Ya just got ta love Homer, what an unsung hero. He played that position better than anybody ever did. God bless both these human beings.
