One of the most influential bands in all of metalcore. We wouldn't have bands like Erra and Counterparts if not for them.

I mean really you could trace this sound back a bit further with Shai Hulud, maybe Hopesfall

As a composer, I think you might like Circa Survive's Juturna album. They had such a unique way of composing & arranging songs!

A Certain Death and The Failsafe are must listen songs. You know what? The entirety of Of Malice and the Magnum Heart, too.
God I love this band. RIP MISERYSIGNALS.

Hell yeah, Geebz. This band were pioneers of metalcore. I'll echo a lot of the other comments and recommend their album Controller if you're looking for more. It's an incredible blend of melodic hardcore and post-metal with flourishes of prog.

Check out “ebb and flow” by misery signals. It has 6-8 layers right in the beginning. Very great writing. All of Controller is great writing. Highly recommend

Controller is so incredible, there isn't a single skip on it. Labyrinthian would probably be my pick though

@@joelh870 truth! I’d have to agree with you but it’s also a tough choice. I really enjoy the transitions of coma to a certain death and reset to homecoming. Truly great writing

I could talk about this album at length, but to sum up, this is basically what melodic death metal is supposed to look like.
There is never a sacrifice in physical ability or song writing or melodic incorporation throughout the length of the album on all fronts. Every pause of extended riff has a purpose, every walk on the bass has a destination, and every melody of the guitar has a sense of timining and accessibility. As the vocals go, what might seem standard to even some metal heads, has more unique qualities than not.
Thanks geebz. I hope you do more misery signals songs going forward.

I remember hearing that this album was recorded and produced by a friend of theirs, so it’s a little bit different mix. Controller was their next in 2008 and is the most polished. I love that album so much.
Also like that surfing analogy at the end. 👍

Misery signals is going on their farewell tour right now and its kind of a sucky feeling cause they were formed before I was even born and I only discovered them a year or two ago, so theres not much to look forward to anymore. The entire controller album is some of the best most soulful metalcore ever made, id love to see your take on it or atleast some of the songs. Controller is also produced by Devin Townsend so it holds up REALLY well even by today’s standards IMO

Ah, always loved this song, but to nitpick man as a composer you really should do something off of the album Absent Light! This song might even be their deepest cut. Love it but doesn't scratch the surface!

Old Jesse was god tier, but Karl blew new Jesse out of the water. Sorry but Ultraviolet was my least favorite record.
