This used to run all the time on TLC when it was still "The Learning Channel" and not an embarrassment. Great series. Looks like it was made in the 60s but it's actually from the late 80s/early 90s. Love how they show and explain not just how something works, but WHY it works and why it's designed in that specific way.
OMG when i grew up a friend of my moms recorded a vacuum show from tv onto VHS tape, and it was THIS show! cant believe i found it again! Thank you for posting!
It's funny to think H.G. Welles might have seen that first giant octopus vacuum cleaner that scared horses, then ran straight home and wrote War of The Worlds.
The Reeves at 5:25 is missing its 'mouth piece'. I have one of them. They are somewhat promising, but they lack a little flap that prevents from dirt that has just been sucked up, to be blown back out again. Also, after +- 100 years, the thin metal construction has a bunch of dents, which will prevent the piston/plunger from sealing properly.
During 1860’s at White House east room had full of carpeting. How did they keep cleaning and shampooing gigantic carpet? It didn’t mentioned in history.
Mia nonna in Romania li batteva ogni tre mesi....non erano mai sporchi...perche nessuno entrava con le scarpe ....le spazzava ogni giorno....quell tappeto e proprio sporco😊
+Wicked Coolname or "sarcasm"? The guy obviously has more charisma than a vacuum cleaner, as vacuum cleaners are inanimate objects that don't have charisma. My comment is obviously not meant to be taken seriously.

This series was one of the best things that ever went out on television !
not a fan of love island
to bad there's only one season
Omg...loved these as a kid. Binging these now. Breaks machines down into their simpler parts. Great for kids thinking of going into engineering.
I loved these NPR videos in the early 80's, and love them just as much today.
Best show for any future engineer.
I used to watch this show on PBS Channel 13 (NYC) whenever it was on... loved this show!
Living in the US, I first saw this series on "cable" in the early 90s. One of my favorites!
Loved this show growing up. One of the few shows from the west that we could get in Singapore at the time.
No 'Metal Mickey'?
These guys and this show are brilliant! Definitely the best explanation show ever!
This is great thank for uploading. This really should be at the top of the playlist because it is the first video in the series.
That rug beating and the air compressor seriously set off my sinus problems
The good old days when a vaccume was a entertainment destination.
I remember this show wow that's awesome
Thank you for sharing. Very interesting.
I loved these shows.
It's funny to think H.G. Welles might have seen that first giant octopus vacuum cleaner that scared horses, then ran straight home and wrote War of The Worlds.
except that the novel was written before Booth's invention
@@sockington1 So War of The Worlds inspired the first vacuum cleaner. I had no idea vacuum cleaners were so edgy.

The cartoon voices. 😂😂
thanks for the wonderful documentary
Me watching this series: Dad, I think I want to be an engineer when I grow up.
Dad: \*proud tear* if...if that's what you want, son.
Fascinating and fun to watch!
Great episode from the Predyson era
I remember watching this series with my dad on the Discovery channel in India
The best thank you.
RIP Rex Garrod...

Whats the red cylinder in the background at 9:05? It looks like one of the earliest of numatics or even kerstars,
I believe this was the pilot episode, aired in 1988.
+Noah Covert --> Actually you're right...this was the very first episode of season 1...
9:02 is that white vacuum cleaner behind this guy a zelmer 500.4 ?
is the one on the wall a numatic i think it is
This machine really "sucks" :)
"enormous big wheels" isn't that tautological?
Gosh those are some fucking carpets.
Holy shit the dust was filled with Germans???, thats horrifying
4:00
i swear it was as asthmatic carpet cleaner from Ohio.
I feel like a vacuum cleaner has more charisma than the host...some of his deliveries could've been...well...cleaner.
+DevilboyScooby I see we have an idiot in our midst.
+Crabby Old Gamer Just because I'm not the biggest fan of the host doesn't make me an idiot.
+DevilboyScooby No, it just means you were brought up wrong. Ever hear the one about saying something nice or nothing at all?
You ever heard the one about don't judge people you don't know?
+Wicked Coolname or "sarcasm"? The guy obviously has more charisma than a vacuum cleaner, as vacuum cleaners are inanimate objects that don't have charisma. My comment is obviously not meant to be taken seriously.
booooooooooo
