What are your favourite budget cine lenses? Let me know!
Vintage lenses. Smaller and lighter for sure
Really nice shots here, Alex! Your approach to cinematography feels very naturalistic - I can relate to it.
Thanks so much! I definitely go for that naturalistic look so glad you appreciate it :)
Straight to the point. Thanks.
Great sample footage as well.
Welcome back! Happy to see a new video from you ☺️❤️
Thanks so much Jenna!!
Welcome back my friend 😁 These lenses look like a good choice. I need to get to that level of awesomeness with out them before I consider them. But they are on the list of things to think about.
Thanks so much Ricardo! Yes, these lenses are a fantastic choice. Haha hey man, practice makes perfect. Just keep on honing your craft!
Those lenses are 👌👌👌 welcome back!!
They are! Thanks so much :)
Love the footage, do you have more?
I loved your video and the way you put the points.
Alex, I'm researching Slr Magic and Meike, both reviews for Fuji X. I've seen some about the breather in Slr Magic's focus. Can you tell me something about?
I really like the construction and the fact that Slr Magic is 1.5
Thank you very much!
Great channel and I’m glad I found it. From what I’ve seen from reviews, it’s only the 35mm and the 75mm works well with the Sony E Mount. However, the 50mm and wider lens do not fully lock or click on the camera. One reviewer even mentioned the lens got stuck. Do you find this to be true Alex? Thanks.
your coloring is absolutely immaculate.
Thanks so much man, glad you like it!
@@AlexPerri out?
I second this! Dreamy and beautiful!
What do yo think about Rokinon DSX? Can you make a VS between SLR and Rokinon?
What lens do you recommend for wedding films? If i am just staring with one.
Hi Alex! How are the micro jitters while walking handheld with these lenses? Would this fit well on my Sony A7iii?
Any idea how the SLR Magic Microprime Cine compares to a similar priced Viltrox Cine lens. There don't seem to be any videos around that compare the two. The various videos that I have screened separately that feature either of these Cine lenses suggest that the SLR may be a bit softer than the Viltrox... Any thoughts?
I'm new to videography. Does this lens fit on a sony A7 Sii?
Hi,
Thank you for choosing and using our products. We are thrilled that the SLR Magic community is growing.

Cheers, Adelina
That sounds great! You can shoot me an email at alex@apfilms.ca to discuss!
Please make some compatible with Canon RF-S🥺
Yep I definitely getting this lens thanks to Alex
Hey Alex, I just discovered your channel. Your footage looks really incredible! I use these lenses all the time on my Sony FS5 mk2 and also really like them.
Thanks so much Zack!! Yea these lenses are amazing, I'm absolutely in love with them. How do you like the Sony FS5?
Is there any way to use these lenses with the panasonic gh5 ii ?
DId you use the lens in this video?
I had this set since the early days of SLR magic. I got them for form factor and not for image quality or performance. At the time of its release it was still A7sii days, so no autofocus for video. And not many options for compact cine primes except Canon CNE(EF) or Zeiss CP2(EF). SLR magic was one of the few that offered a compact cine prime with e mount.
My main complaint would be , wide open theres CA and purple fringing on highlights are quite prominent (imo in an unpleasant manner)
Hey Alex, what do you think of the microprime colour rendition. The 25mm seems to have a very green tint and between the range they aren’t colour matched.
Do you feel this would be an issue?
Hmm, I feel like I haven't notice all that much. I do use VND filters which add their own color cast sometimes, so maybe I'm just so used to having to do color correction that I haven't truly noticed. But I definitely wouldn't say there is a strong color tint of any kind on any of my lenses, so maybe it's a defect with yours? Regardless, if it's not too strong, it's probably nothing you can't fix when doing color correction. Feel free to send me some screenshots if you have any for me to take a look over on IG @alexsperri
Is the example footage shot just with the plain lens, or with an added diffusion filter like black promist?
Some of the footage had a black pro mist on.
I have the SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine Lenses since 2019, they are fantastic with some shortcomings BUT they are great for fast run & gun documentary.
I wish how the new 7 Artisans Spectrum lens series are. Better or Worse?
Yea they really are great for run & gun documentary. I haven't had a chance to check out the 7 Artisans so not too sure.
@@AlexPerri I hope someone will make the comparison.
you sold me these lens!
I’ve seen that these lenses have some chromatic aberration. Does this happen for you and if so how do you deal with it?
It's not overly noticeable, but I don't mind it when it is there. I kind of like that these lenses don't produce a perfectly clean look.
How do you deal with the flares this lens produces?
I actually like getting flares in my footage so I’m not usually too worried about them, but if I do want to tone them down a bit I just used a matte box and angle the flap down a bit to block it out.
Were you using both lenses here? Def want both and have em in my Amazon bag, just checking first. They look perfect for what I want and I usually buy GMs so its like 2 for the price of less than one lol
Yea I used both the 35 and 50 for all the sample shots in this video. I got the 21mm recently there was no sample footage yet. But the whole lineup is fantastic
@@AlexPerri im in. Thank you alex.
@@AlexPerri bought the 35 and 50 rn. Super pumped, thanks for the review/reply
So awesome to hear that man! I think you’re gonna love them
@@AlexPerri would love to see ur review of the newest 21 /1.6 lens
What's cheaper
They look like great lenses, I just wish they had EF versions of them, it would work better for me as that's more versatile. I don't want go get locked into one mount.
They definitely are Rocco! I know what you mean though. You could always check out an adapter to convert from E to EF. Just a thought!
How is EF more versatile?
@@pjbiggleswerth8903 EF lenses are adaptable to almost any other modern mount. You can adapt them to Canon RF, Nikon Z, Sony E, Leica L, MF3, and various other mounts. It is the most adaptable mount hence why people usually buy either EF or PL mount cine lenses. Those are the standards. Obviously PL mount is a higher standard, but in a most cases EF lenses are accepted. Plus, there are tons of options to choose from on the EF mount, which can't be said about the mirrorless mounts. If you pick a lens for a mirrorless mount, you've just locked yourself into that system. I shoot with a Canon R6, but my lenses are all EF, so I can use them on other cameras with adapters if I want too. Flexibility is very important to have in professional environments!
@@AlexPerri E mount lenses cannot be mounted to EF mounts, it is physically impossible due to flange distance. EF lenses can be mounted to E, but not the other way around.
I'd love an ef version as well. There are the APO Microprimes but they are about $1200 each in EF. A whopping $2200 each for the same lens in PL. I don't understand that at all.
Dude I just bought these based on your recommendation.. how can I get better an Manual focusing? Lol 😂😅
Haha man just practice, practice, practice! It seems daunting at first but it gets a lot easier. I still don’t mail my focus right away when shooting, but sometimes it adds to the overall look. And in the meantime, try shooting with a bit deeper of a focus instead of going too shallow. That’ll ensure you get more in focus. Hope that helps!
Would have been nice to see side by side comparison to one of those "generic/clinical" looking lens you reference...many times.
To be honest, I would’ve if I had one to compare it to but since the FX3 was my first full frame camera, I bought these lenses right away and never had any other lenses to use properly with this camera. But I’ve used other lenses like that in the past on other cameras and you can find tons of content online of people who shoot on cameras like the A7SIII or FX3 with your typical Sony or Canon lenses.
Are they fullframe?
Yes they are!
@@AlexPerri hi! If they work on Full Frame cameras, is there cropping? And would you need to get an adapter for an EF mount or do they have that option?
@@GRSsonick if it works on medium format or full frame, it will work on crop sensor. about adapter, depends on what canera you have, if you have canon you'll need ef mount, if you have fuji you'll need fx mound etc. etc. check on their site if they have mount availability
@@itsikolia thanks! I just wasn’t sure if when put on a Full frame it would be “zoomed” in more or not since it’s a micro prime lens
You really need to write microprime cine lens either in the title or on the screen, because if you miss it, or don't understand what you said, then you've no way of telling which lenses you are talking about. A shot of the box would do the trick. Clarity is everything.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions David, much appreciated!
Stop selling me something and tell me your honest opinion.
What exactly are you looking for here? I explained my honest opinion in it's entirety in this video. I wasn't given these lenses by SLR Magic and it wasn't sponsored by them. I just actually absolutely love these lenses, for the reasons I outlined in this video, and I'm hoping other people will also see why these lenses are great and produce beautiful images.
