Oda (creator of one piece) has confirmed kaidos fruit to be the fish fish fruit model: koi which is referring to the koi myth in that myth a koi fish swam up a waterfall and gods gave that koi fish the power to turn into a dragon thats why its called the koi fruit

Kelvin u can use the fruit and nova explosion both by equipping them at the same time, and for boss u can fly with dragon then enter to boss to stay with your form while fighting it

The reason it's called mythical koi fruit instead of mythical ryu fruit is because an ancient Chinese tale tells about a koi fish that never gave up trying to get up a water fall and when it made it to the top the gods blessed it and turned it into a dragon

Well the original Fruit name was "Ou Ou No Mi: Shiryuu" Which in english means "Fish Fish No Mi Model: Azure Dragon." so i think it was going for a fish name other than a dragon like name.
