  • Alex and I went magnet fishing on today's video at a new spot on the New Bedford / Fairhaven line. We started under the bridge and slowly moved down to some docks.
    We found some interesting stuff but the one interesting thing that happened is, one of our magnets blew apart. We are unsure why. As Alex was tossing his magnet and it was going forward in the air (unimpeded) it just went POP! It almost sounds like an implosion rather than an explosion. Regardless, only thing we are thinking is maybe friction?
    After doing some research, neodymium magnets are created like a pressurized cake from powdered neodymium and other stuff. In that state, neodymium is actually quite flammable. Is friction the answer here? Could it have created a spark that led to it exploding? I'm not sure but I can tell ya this, it was absolutely strange!!
    Magnetar was nothing but awesome throughout the ordeal and we reached an agreement that was mutually beneficial; the issue was quickly remedied. Thanks to Dennis at Magnetar for being so understanding and being a stand up company. Can’t wait to get the Terror back in the water.

    Maybe that one item was the base for a 50s car bumper jack, back in the days of chrome over metal.

    I have a magnet that is all beat up. I had to remove the bolt to put a thick washer on the bottom. The bolt was working its way through the magnet. It has a cover, but the bolt has nothing to keep it from going through the magnet.

    You needs anti seize grease
    Because you’re rusting the pin.
    Pin expands rust
    Expands to break magnet

      I don’t use that stuff but after it’s cleaned it’s always sprayed down with Fluid Film.

    Prime examples taught Nate; how fragile the bare magnets are, importance of the cover, cleaning the salt/brackish water from magnets after usage....so good educational video?!? Does suck from your standpoint but good for folks to see

    You were at my local spot. Not the best location in the harbor though. I've thoroughly fished all thru here. Next time you come to town I could take you to much more abundant spots less than a mile from here.

    I'm confused, did the magnet hit something in the water to cause it to break? Did it actually explode?

    • @CapeCodMagnetCrew
      @CapeCodMagnetCrew  2 місяці тому +1

      Didn’t hit anything. My son swung it backward, forward and let go…. Boom
