I had both the 610 solo and the 610mkii (wound up selling the 610 solo... found myself not using it since i had the LA610...). The preamps are identical as long as you're not using the compressor section. This is by far my favorite preamp for vocals in the studio. Male, female... makes no difference, just sounds amazing. One really cool feature of the LA610 is that you can run line level into it to use the opto comp as a mix tool. The instrument input is another "use it every time" kind of thing here as well which is just as good on the 610 solo.
@@clipscastage a LOT of guitar and bass. Keys i generally use a 2 channel Reddi Clone i built a while back (stereo pair). I find the input stage to be quite nice on just about any type of guitar (single coil, humbucker, hollow body, solid etc.) Feeding this into any of the amp sims we use on the regular is just a nice added touch of even harmonics. I also use it for my electric upright bass as well.
This is the kind of content I'm looking for. Of course I would like to see review of the Teletronix LA-2A and CL1B, but perhaps we can start with DBX 286s where almost everyone has or would be able to afford. Then WA73 then perhaps LA610. Btw, I'm just wondering, what are you thoughts on the Warm Audio WA-2A? Have you tried it? Of course on different microphones especially high-ones, because I don't think people who own U87 AI is going to plug it just into the Scarlet 18i20, if they are, I'm sure they would be keen to see what kind of improvements they can get by getting an external preamp.
FINALLY someone A/B'ing sound that isn't nails-on-the-chalkboard singing or bad bass or guitar playing.

When running D.I. into this thing are you just running keys and bass? Or do you do any other kind of D.I.?

It's the sort of a difference you can tell side by side but no way you'd notice it just by like... watching content :)
I agree completely.
this is great news! #Preampcastage FTW
