CORRECTION: I said at some point in the video that the 2wd version of the Buzz is front wheel drive when in fact it is rear wheel drive! Thanks to the viewer that caught my mistake. Of course this one I reviewed is AWD, but RWD is available with 282hp and 413 lb-ft.
@23:58 ironically commented this while you were behind the prius. lol. people can hate prius as much as they want but the hybrid is still the best solution to date. even mclaren porsche and ferrari followed suit eventually...obviously in a different way but they're still hybrids.
@ they should definitely make one but then nobody would buy this one and it would become even more of a novelty. I have a weird feeling with only 200 miles though it simply can't do well even though it looks super cool.
I am ancient enough to remember riding in the original VW bus, which in its day could hold up to eight people including the driver. The ride was wildly buoyant and floating, which it did so majestically over curb stops, potholes and speed bumps. You sat in front of the front wheels so with any crash your legs were the crash absorption barrier for the car. My dad considered buying one in 1970 but the price was a breath-taking 3,000 dollars without air conditioning... I really wanted the Campmobile version that had a popup roof and a folding table in back for the passengers, but that was even more expensive. An automatic wasn't available until 1973, but would have been ridiculous in a vehicle with a 60 hp engine.
0:13 the reasons VW calls it as Bus is that in Germany, all vans, but especially VW T-series vans, are usually referred to as a bus/minibus. Hence also the wordplay VW Buzz
Pricing, range and power aside, you all should be glad someone is making something like this. It's unique and has features that are PRACTICAL for every day life, not nonsense like ambient lighting and bouncy suspension. I would not buy this because I don't need a van, but I appreciate it.
@@GottiEss Their target audience are the 70's hippies, which are older and have retirement funds, now. It's still a good thing to have these features, so they potentially become the norm for future cars.
If I owned a Buzz I would just wrap the bottom in a different color so I can keep the Metro Silver if I didn't like the "Buckeye Red". I'm a Washington fan, so royal or lavender purple works for me.
For me, the best drive setting for the ID vehicles is the standard 'D' drive mode and sport mode. It provides slightly more regen than normal, but not nearly as much as 'B' mode. It's just enough to modulate your speed, but keeps you aware that your brakes/regen should be used for faster stops; not too much different from the natural drag of an ICE vehicle. I am not a fan of OPD. I tried forcing myself to use it in a Tesla for a month, and I just couldn't drive it as smoothly as a regular vehicle.
It's original looking. I'll give it that. It's not my type of vehicle but there's gotta be a niche for it for VW to make it. It's like the very opposite of the old VW bus of the 70s. Thanks Topher.
You know better than me, but I think changing the thumbnail to show the exterior for at least this video would make the video much more clickable. I just thought this was some regular VW sedan until I hovered over the video on the homepage. Hadn't heard of the ID Buzz until now, or forgot about it. Seeing what it was from the outside made me click.
I feel like it would’ve been cool if they came out with a hybrid or gas version of this. People would’ve been more interested to buy one. It’s way over priced with little range
The main thing this has going for it is the styling, it has a uniqueness factor that other cars on the road don’t have. I think it’s going to fail because it’s too expensive and the range is terrible. I don’t think you should be measuring charging speed only in terms of % we should start using range as well, this car has terrible range, so 10-80% in 26 minutes gets us how many miles?
Yikes, so what I'm hearing is that you're a reviewer for a living and that she got hurt while on the job so is that workman's compensation? This isn't your actual vehicle either - is VW liable? Lawyer up! VW Audi Group boutta pay up!
Yet another vehicle that nobody asked for and that won't sell. The first one my dealer ever got in still hasn't sold. Why don't they offer a gas option? Imagine how many more people would be able to own a minivan and buy this if they offered their 2.0T that cost half this price.
Seems kinda dumb to have staggered tires, like I can't imagine you're gaining much from not doing say 245s that you could rotate (and have less fuss in general).

Neat but 70 grand is wild.
It needs a cheaper version with the EA888 and Aisin 8 speed auto like the Tiguan and Atlas have.
at he end of the day its a gimmick car, they dont want this to represent the masses
Their target audience are the 70's hippies, which are older and have retirement funds, now. Assuming they didn't burn out.
I find this thing silly in my opinion, regardless of price.
It’s delusional
my favourite version of the topher universe, love your work dude!
TOPHERVERSE
they messed up not making this a hybrid that would be the perfect road trip vehicle and not leave you stranded every couple hours lol
@23:58 ironically commented this while you were behind the prius. lol. people can hate prius as much as they want but the hybrid is still the best solution to date. even mclaren porsche and ferrari followed suit eventually...obviously in a different way but they're still hybrids.
A little hybrid generator would go such a long way!
Should have been an EREV or something
@ they should definitely make one but then nobody would buy this one and it would become even more of a novelty. I have a weird feeling with only 200 miles though it simply can't do well even though it looks super cool.
Yikes 😮. Wishing Emily a speedy recovery from her injury.

16:30 small correction: the other version of the buzz is a rear wheel drive not front wheel drive.
ah yes, thank you! idk why I said front wheel.

It looks cool imo. Unfortunately it’s an overpriced, low range e-van.
A bit too expensive to “save the world”.
Awesome reviewing Love your videos!
Finally one with a black interior
first one I've seen too!
it's brown
the car looks futuristic

too bad nobody average will be able to afford that unique practicality.
Too bad the average person can’t afford it. Bad car. Should’ve been a hybrid or something.

😂 ID bankruptcy
😂😂😂
ID Bust
ID Volkswagen should go out of business
great van and great color combo, but 70k for a VW is a bit up there
Curious to see where they are in a few years
ID BUZZ ASMR
I believe their is a setting for 1 pedal driving if you want to enable it.
there’s is a “B” mode as i showed but it does not come to a complete stop
This is so refreshing and lovely. It's the anti-Cyber Truck.
70K is too much, love the video!

definitely agree, its very cool! the range i agree isn't great but it seems to charge fast which matters more for road trips
If they made the Buzz cheaper it would've been a useful Uber/Lyft vehicle. Would be cool to make a stretched version of this, like a Buzz limo.
I feel like if I am going to spend $60k this is one of the last things on my list. Is it cool? Is it neat? Sure, but the price is kinda crazy.
The 90’s GM minivans want their front quarter windows back.
DUST BUSTER! hahahaha

So cool! Wish they offered a hybrid. Unless they do?
Please do a review on the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Flash!
Cool but 70K is ridiculous
Wow first view and comment ever on any video lol cool van!
How convenient to include a bottle opener for a easy DUI. Das Auto
can't wait to buy this in 2 years for $15k LMAOOOO
It you had it in purple with green accents it would look like Megabyte from Reboot.
I would buy one if the price of my perfect spec goes from 72,500 to about 65k
It's very quiet when driving isn't it?
For an EV I'd think that be an expectation not a plus
❤ I appreciate your time reviewing the VW.. Unfortunately, it's just another soulless electric abomination 😢...
This thing is about $35-$40k too expensive.
Neat, otherwise
I’ll wait a few years. Like you said, they’ll drop in price.

Futuristic hippie van
For the hippie that is also a middle manager for the "man".
To be fair most original hippies were like that anyway
I really wanted one until I found out it's electric only and they are really expensive for what they are.
I feel like it would’ve been cool if they came out with a hybrid or gas version of this. People would’ve been more interested to buy one. It’s way over priced with little range
This looks like a cheap euro van or an airport taxi and i would be embarrassed being seen driving one of these .

Cool little VW
Hard pass on $70k aint no way. When its another 10-15k in maintenance and repairs/downtime over time of ownership.
Ohio State spec in UMich territory... O H - !

20K overpriced

Quirky looking minivan for a very a specific buyer, because it is expensive and an EV.
Not my cup of tea.
Cybertruck is a cool EV :/
