For people who can't understand due to the somewhat lacking explanation via caption. The majority of the techniques rely on disrupting the grappler's balance by pushing their upper body's center of gravity towards a certain direction which is most often in an angle or towards where the spine and legs cannot handle the sudden shift in weight distribution. This is meant to be done fast as a reflex move (bad example, but imagine Steven Seagal in his movies. That kind of speed.) The natural counter to this would be to move your legs and feet and regain balance before you are thrown. However, the arm and hand movements take in consideration being grappled, and includes moves that serve to use the human joints' limitations and structure to get the upperhand and be able to destroy the opponent's balance via forcing certain movements. An example is when he threw the sumo guy by first pushing his grabbing arm towards his own shoulder's direction. Because sumo guy is intent on grabbing his arms strongly, the sumo guy's elbow bends into a position where he is forced to bend his upperbody backwards to make space, but failure to step backwards results in toppling over.

Are you that beat the shit out of him
what's amazing is how a 220 kg guy could be so agile and could take falls without damage. if you take a regular 220 obese person (non sumo wrestler, junk-food-powered), they probably won't be able to get up after being thrown.
He isn't taking much damage because he's doing good Ukemi. Ukemi, if you didn't know what it is, is a way to break your fall by hitting/slapping the ground with your hand before your body falls and hits the ground. Doing this will disperse all of the energy/momentum your body has in the air, while falling towards the ground, into the ground itself. Then it'll feel just like falling towards the ground from only an inch or two above the ground. A bunch of martial arts use this in order to stay safe while practicing with a partner :D
With a Similar experience I realised Aikido is formidable. Sensei stands in the middle of class and we all attack without warning, order, rules. We try to make him leave a square marked by two belts ! Yes I felt its power as I flew through the air ; two fingers caused a choke , a second strike winded /emptied my lungs and a simple trip ment I landed bouncing on my face half doubled over in pain and unable to break my fall in any way. I landed like a pizza upside down ! Teacher was 63 🤔 just realised that was 47yrs ago. Your lessons were not wasted 🙏.
That was amazing. Seeing how sumo handles throwing the other's center of gravity and how Aikido does it differently, and the tai-chi comparisons was great.
Its so amazing to watch.3 master of their own craft openly discuss and experience aikido technique, there is still lack of understanding towards aikido technique and its meaning, which cant be explain without personally experiencing it. Aikido is great set of tools to all in any martial art u are practicing, it helps u grasp more understanding of the dynamic of energic and force changes.
Love the video! But be aware when throwing a larger person over your hips, it can be broken without warning, it will just snap. Two friend where wrestling about same size, one tried to throw the other over his hips and broke his left hip (the cartilage sphere part). Have a good one!
one of best aikido presentation i saw... i self study japanese so i am glad for japanese subtitles... for example i read perfectly the sumist saying "eu" in hiragana :))))) but sadly i have born with cutted nerve in my hand, but i cant stop want to do martial arts and i like aikido philosophy as i dont like "to be competing" personaly.
If you are skeptical about aikido, just read this comment. I am a former Aikido student. Didn't reach far, but i have experienced many of these techniques. You can't resist to this technique because of few things: 1. It uses your own strength against you. How? Imagine this: you are being asked to push a wall made of plastic, as hard as you can. When you're just about to hit the wall with all the force you have, the wall disappears. What's left is your huge striking power against nothing, which will cause you to trip down and fall to the ground although nothing has touched you, basically. Same technique here - with just the right timing, no force is needed to throw even the biggest guy in the room to the ground. 2. In static situations, the first thing the defender does is to lock one part of the attacker's body. Could be the wrist, the arm, the shoulder, whatever. At this point, the attacker has 2 optipns: do what the defender leads him to do, or break that bpdy part in an instant. Obviously the instinct will be to do what the attacker leads him to do. 3. All those flips you see the attackers doing are just a result of the 2nd point i made. They cannot move their locked body part so in order to not break anything they have to match the rest of their bodies with the body part that is twisted, which means to twist their entire body in order to not break their arms. Now, to tell you if this would work at a street fight? I honestly don't know. What i do know is that it needs to work only one time throighout the entire fight and the fight is over instantly due to a broken body part of the attacker.
I am an American. And here, people attack Aikido all the time for being ineffective and not practical for real self-defense. But I have to disagree with them. I think if Aikido is properly learned and properly executed it is one of the most effective martial arts in existence; Especially for people who are physically small are not as strong as someone else. I would like to hear from my Japanese friends if they agree with this or not.
I agree with you, but as a sumo guy said, "I did not understand how aikido works until I really experienced myself. I thought they must have choreographed between a master and a student". There are still many things which we actually do have to experiences to understand with our own bodies, no matter how much we watch videos, read and listen to explanatioin.
Ppl are just ignorant. I had a discussion with a friend and explained to him that the joint lock you see in kung fu are literally the same things u see aikido karate judo silat hapkido kali etc
In Aikido it takes a lot longer to become effective in a fight than anything else you learn in Judo, Karate, Jujutsu etc. This repells those that seek a quick way to inflict damage upon an enemy. Aikido seeks peace between the people, many other martial arts seek victory over an opponent.
Not Japanese, but I learned Aikido both in my country and during few months when I was in Japan. The thing about Aikido is that it is not meant for fighting, but if learned properly and if the person practiced for a really long time, I wouldn't wanna mess with them. Most of what people see is demonstration between a tori and uke and of course, they're trained to work together in the execution of techniques, so they both know how to follow through and how to fall without being hurt, so it looks fake. However, I personally would recommend combining Aikido with some other martial art like Karate to also build the strength of your punches and kicks because with punchs and kicks (especially fast ones), Aikido is much less effective.
Aikido must be THE most beautiful of the martial art type of sports! Engineering-type minds appreciate the application of laws of physics in the most fluid-like movements of this sport. It's just beautiful and very satisfying to watch.
It is logical that the techniques and principles developed by the Japanese would be most favorable to shorter stature. Most of my life, I have been more wary of short people who can use my height and weight against me.
I have always been curious of arts that use throwing techniques although that is not an accurate description of these arts as there are many factors that are involved i.e. body positioning, angles of force etc. I am intrigued and impressed . I am a student of jooklum gee tong long pai southern praying mantis and my art seeks to borrow the opponents force to use against them. Anyways a wonderful demonstration As I am most impressed with all involved and the humility and respect 🙏 for each other and respective systems. A beautiful demonstration and representation of your art Sensi, thank you.
Not all of us are stupid. Everything shown in this video is based on control of the wrist and control of the center of gravity, those two techniques are super important in any form of hand-to-hand fighting in one way or another.
Man, a bodybuilder can beat talented aikido fighter but a talented boxer can eat the body builder so aikido is worthless to boxing and don't try to be smart not everybody have a gun in his hand
If someone simply stands there you can put your foot behind their leg and push to knock them over too. Do it with live resistance. There is a reason people don't use this in the cage.

Truly fantastic. Outstanding mastery and it was clear from the sumo wrestler's expressions that the experiences were authentic. Allowing each master to demonstrate their techniques is a great idea that made the video more impactful and interesting. Excellent!
I always tought that things like those seen in Baki where you can throw someone twice your size were stupid and unrealistic, i mean, i already use aikido when i grapple in BJJ or when i spar in MMA, but i still tought something like this was impossible, beautiful video, and sorry for my poorly writen english, i´m from Mexico
Aside from seagal jokes and shit, real aikido really is a thing. I've been training it in past and some things I've seen with trainer were amazing. But its just and strictly self defense art best combined with other offense arts. Talking about original japanese aikido, since today we have so much different aikido styles. Pretty much every trainer outside japan uses and gives a slightly or completely different styles.
I have had the chance to train with a lot of different martial artists. All keen to compare their techniques to Aikido. The common theme is them starting out serious and then ending up laughing because they can't believe that I can so easily throw them or get them off balance. Judo guys knew what to expect though.
When I was young in my teens I practiced Aikido and it saved my life many times. The streets of Philadelphia. State and county jails. Bar fights. Knife fights. Ppl pulling guns on you. It puts ppl down. And you can add shit to it to really mess up someone’s day. Very good video

You gotta be kidding me that’s gotta be the best joke I ever heard that sty is trash if you’re so all hype about it, I challenge at least four of these masters in the octagon with me, they’re all pathetic. Only one master took the offer knocked him out in 22 seconds. I should’ve put my six-year-old kid in there and he has 83 KO in his age group for real that style is pure trash unless you are kickboxing judo regular boxer Olympic wrestler Kim po Then you get my respect, but yeah, you are a jokester. Are you that beat the shit out of him
I am an Indian and have been practicing Karate for 32 years but your techniques are very useful and practical.Thank you master
It as useless as your karate
Karate punches are weak as.
no you didnt, otherwise you wouldnt claim bs like "your techniques are very useful and practical", you would know better.
Learning and laughing at the same time. I remember learning these long ago. But it's always good to see an expert execute these.
It was a pleasure observing such a group of noble, well mannered and knowledgeable gents. Great clip!
what's amazing is how a 220 kg guy could be so agile and could take falls without damage.
if you take a regular 220 obese person (non sumo wrestler, junk-food-powered), they probably won't be able to get up after being thrown.
Yeah haha
Something is telling me you know nothing about sumo ...
i mean, sumo wrestlers are sportsmen, with a big muscle mass
😄😄😄😆😅👍
He isn't taking much damage because he's doing good Ukemi. Ukemi, if you didn't know what it is, is a way to break your fall by hitting/slapping the ground with your hand before your body falls and hits the ground. Doing this will disperse all of the energy/momentum your body has in the air, while falling towards the ground, into the ground itself. Then it'll feel just like falling towards the ground from only an inch or two above the ground. A bunch of martial arts use this in order to stay safe while practicing with a partner :D
I cant stop watching videos of you sensei.
Keep it up 🎉🎉🎉
With a Similar experience I realised Aikido is formidable.
Man you were hypnotized...
Without a doubt you are the greatest Aikido master of our time.
Probably lol
no o sensei or saotome or ikeda
The humility shown by both masters is as great as their martial skills.
Agreed. All 3 masters, in fact.
Love the video!
But be aware when throwing a larger person over your hips, it can be broken without warning, it will just snap.
Two friend where wrestling about same size, one tried to throw the other over his hips and broke his left hip (the cartilage sphere part).
Have a good one!
Learning through differences, nobody like you senseiss what a good example of martial arts
one of best aikido presentation i saw... i self study japanese so i am glad for japanese subtitles... for example i read perfectly the sumist saying "eu" in hiragana :))))) but sadly i have born with cutted nerve in my hand, but i cant stop want to do martial arts and i like aikido philosophy as i dont like "to be competing" personaly.
If you are skeptical about aikido, just read this comment.
I am a former Aikido student. Didn't reach far, but i have experienced many of these techniques.
You can't resist to this technique because of few things:
I agree ☝️
These are real sports ambassadors. what friendly people, so nice to watch.
Aikido must be THE most beautiful of the martial art type of sports! Engineering-type minds appreciate the application of laws of physics in the most fluid-like movements of this sport. It's just beautiful and very satisfying to watch.
Always impressive technique ! Have good day from France !
It is logical that the techniques and principles developed by the Japanese would be most favorable to shorter stature. Most of my life, I have been more wary of short people who can use my height and weight against me.
Yeah, that used to get me every time in judo.
Impressive, well done👏💪
Excellent chapter. greetings from Mexico
100% I respect Aikido Sensei, and I love Aikido Techniques you shared,
Very love to see people respect each other like this..
Wonderful demonstration! Thank you!
Both Judo and Aikido ARE beautiful arts!! I used to practice Aikido! So scientific!
If someone simply stands there you can put your foot behind their leg and push to knock them over too. Do it with live resistance. There is a reason people don't use this in the cage.
Très impressionnant ! Ça impose le respect !
Greetings from an ex-Aikidoka and Kendoka from Kodokan school, Alessandria, Italy 🇮🇹 😊
ESTOU EM SÃO PAULO - BRASIL. QUE AULA TÃO AGRADÁVEL, GRAÇAS A SUA SIMPLICIDADE E PROFISSIONALISMO POR EXCELÊNCIA! PARABÉNS! SUA APRESENTAÇÕES PRENDE ATENÇÃO DE TODOS. PARABÉNS! SUCESSO E FIQUE BEM.
My deep respect to sensei of Aikido for sharing those move so nice.thanks you
Aikido is a way of going through cracks in our balance, as my sensei used to say: “it’s like judo, fighting against empty clothes”
I like that! .... but it's actually a scary concept.
Truly fantastic. Outstanding mastery and it was clear from the sumo wrestler's expressions that the experiences were authentic. Allowing each master to demonstrate their techniques is a great idea that made the video more impactful and interesting. Excellent!
That koshinage was the final straw that broke the camel’s back.
Excellent sensei! Very impressive indeed! Thank you for the videos!
You guys are having so much fun in this video!
Just looking at how the Sumo man takes the fall, I think Sumo wrestlers do learn how to fall down safely. Great respects!
Have you seen how high the dohyo (sumo ring) is from the floor?
Beautiful technique
As Mike Tyson said "nobody in a street fight is going to grab you like that."
And...
"everybody has a plan until they get punched"
Aikido is the plan!
Street fight is the reality!
Fuck you UA-cam
Great video! Thank you very much for sharing, all of you!
There is truth in Aikido !
Very positive and very interesting demonstration! Thanks!
Wow so cool!
Thank you for amazing video. Such a good vibes and respect for each other.
Peace
I have had the chance to train with a lot of different martial artists. All keen to compare their techniques to Aikido. The common theme is them starting out serious and then ending up laughing because they can't believe that I can so easily throw them or get them off balance. Judo guys knew what to expect though.
I took Judo and never fully understood the spectrum of balance until Aikido.
@@geraldremington2262 you probably weren't taught Judo that well tho. I'm glad you found the way
When I was young in my teens I practiced Aikido and it saved my life many times. The streets of Philadelphia. State and county jails. Bar fights. Knife fights. Ppl pulling guns on you. It puts ppl down. And you can add shit to it to really mess up someone’s day. Very good video
Fascinating, you are all so skilled and knowledgeable.
