This doctor is so good . I only tune in now and then but he never changes in how he treats his patients and he does one hell of a job . Top notch man .
I appreciate how you keep the area clean as you go along. I know that she appreciates how you kept as much as you can out of the rest of her hair. Once again great job Dr. Butler! ❤
The detailed explanations of your decisions were excellent. I appreciate how you used layman’s terms so we can understand the rationale. I hope you’re a teaching doctor, because you are truly gifted.
I had one. I get the crazy cysts all over the place, from my waist up. 🤪 My mom passed them down to me and my brother. Luckily I’ve only had two infections. It was the same one that came back. Hopefully it doesn’t this time, because my doctor said she got the whole thing.
@@DrGeoffButler Thank you, I’m honored 😌. I’m an aspiring author. I’m currently working on a sci-fi. I have to admit, there have been times I’ve been a bit brash with my replies to some comments. My apologies, I have a very low tolerance for conjecture and arrogant ignorance.
Dermatology is fascinating. All the other types too. That can show diseases and such. Like even syphilis. And candinidis, etc. not just popping stuff. Ty
Generally if I don't have to pack, I won't. Epidermal cysts aren't as easy to compress, so if they are bleeding a significant amount, I'll pack them. With pilar cysts, because the skull is cms away, it is much easier to compress these in such a fashion that any excessive bleeding will stop.
That had to hurt. Isn’t there a danger of infection in the brain if there is an infected cyst on the head? I’ve always been told that. Wonder if it is an old wives tale.
There is always a risk that infections can move to the bloodstream or surrounding structures but that is relatively rare. Once an egress of some type is created, the body will look to clear the infected material.
I have watched 100's of videos and have never had a cyst of any kind.... well i had this lump on my noggin and now it is so sore i can barely touch it...If I go to a clinic will they have the dang tools..... but man oh man this thing throbbed all night for 2 nights.

Yesterday I watched a video from a dermatology channel that I had never seen. He took the swab for the culture from the pus that came out when he made the first incision. I remembered how many times you've said that this practice isn't effective. The funny thing is that I do absolutely nothing with that information that I've learned from you because I'm only a housewife that loves to watch these videos 😂
Hi doctor. Question for you, my dear. I have one of these in the exact same spot of my head. Has been there for about 20 years or so. It doesn't bother me, and I don't bother it. Do you think I should have it removed, or since it has been there for so long without any issues, I should just leave it alone? Do they always get infected at some point or not, really? I value your opinion very much. Thank you, my dear. ❤
If it doesn't bother you and you don't travel much, I'd leave it alone. I only mention travel as if this got infected abroad, which is hugely unlikely, it would be a huge pain.
Hello Dr Butler Is there any connection between the size cysts and the onset of infection? If it has been there for years and the body basically ignored it, could it have been "critical mass" that triggered the immune system?
Jeez! Even my head feels better after that, and I don't even have a cyst! Another excellent job Doc, keep them coming!
@debblachy, you were in the moment! 😅
As a RN I wish every physician could be like Dr Butler, kind to the patient and always teaching. A fantastic combination!
I agree. He is a great doctor and as great a human being ❤

Dr.Butler can you tell why you didnt put that white thing inside the cyst, please? ( I dont know the name in English, sorry😅)
I think you mean the swab and the intent is simply to capture some live bacteria in and around the wound area.

Possibly. They are supposed to come back, but sometimes, if things heal well, they do not represent.

Is there any connection between the size cysts and the onset of infection? If it has been there for years and the body basically ignored it, could it have been "critical mass" that triggered the immune system?
Generally no. I've seen a whole variety of different sizes and there isn't a critical mass at which point infection is inevitable.

There are lots of limitations to this overall setup, but that is certainly one of them. It can be frustrating at times.

How did it get infected
Generally somehow bacteria gets under the skin, often by trauma of some kind.
