Left Elliot Lake in 1960, was a great place and remember it well as a young man I worked with Curran &Briggs a paving company and knew every street in town ,long long time ago and still thinking of moving back I was there a few yrs back and it still looks good for seniors retirement living for Summer and Elliot Lake and good ol Fla, in wintertime.
Seems like a nice enough place, but I'm also not going to pack up my entire life in Vancouver and move to Northern Ontario based off a UA-cam, no matter how snazzy
@@RyantheCanuckpirate Can't fight your logic and you probably shouldn't move here. If you can actually afford to own property in Vancouver you could sell it and move to any number of affordable places in BC. I am from Vancouver and just returned to Elliot Lake after spending a month in your Paradise. Gangland killings, 24 hour nonstop traffic, sirens going 24 hours a day, dysfunctional transit and highway system, a shuddering health care system, multi million dollar crack mansions where the structure is worth 4k but the land is worth a million. For a lot of people, Elliot Lake dots a lot of their i's and crosses a lot of t's. When we open our bedroom window we hear nothing but birdsong and the rustling of the leaves in the wind. This video is very well done and embodies a lot of what Elliot Lake has to offer. Elliot Lake has rebounded thru a lot of tough times. Perhaps you should study some of our history before passing judgement. We have a population of approximately 11000 people. I don't think they can all be wrong.
I was recently driving from my home in eastern Ontario to Calgary to visit family. I had some time, so decided to turn off the highway and do a little tour of Elliot Lake. I had seen the advertising over the past few years about it being a great place to retire. I love Northern Ontario and am already retired and thinking of moving somewhere new. The first place I pulled in to was McDonald's to get a coffee. I told the woman behind the counter that I had never been to Elliot Lake before, and was just exploring. She said "well you're not missing much". I think the front line staff needs to work on their tourism skills. I did find a great trail, and took the dog for a good hike. Then went on my way out west.
Below comment on Campfires in Elliot Lake, after sometime the campfires have stopped/changed to Propane fires. And that removes the smoke/fumes entering home. Good Clean Northern Ontario Air again!!
In Retirement Elliot Lake has allowed myself to enjoy a VERY rewarding life. Purchased a semi home in 2011for $62K (In 2024 value $200k , taxes $1.6k , gas heating $800, insurance $800.00 Water sewer $900) All the outdoor activities at your door step for free. And an ONTARIO NORTHLAND daily bus to Toronto Pearson Airport for the winter escape that one can afford to enjoy due to low cost of living in Elliot Lake. Only drawback 6:pm to 10:00am Daily campfires that a few people have 365 days a year every morning rain or shine within the URBAN CORE 10 feet from your property line even in freezing rain, your homes will be filled with smell of wood smoke.
When I lived in Elliot Lake in late 80s was a busy little place. Bigger population more business. Hehe...not sure if the guy is still in business, had an insurance company, I think his brother was a lawyer. The insurance guy had a pretty little wife I was stepping out with, her husband was so dumb, he had no clue.
Sorry, I live in Elliot Lake. I went through all the photos and they could have been shot today summer of 2024. Do not understand where you are basing your comment?? ( Other than closing beach clip at end seems to be the North Channel area just South of Elliot Lake.)
No kidding.... I was just doing a spreadsheet of the pros/cons of selling the farm and moving to Elliot Lake and this popped up. Well done!

Repent from your sin
In todays internet world, you could do a lot better at selling the idea of the Elliott Lake retirement community. A former resident of Elliott Lake.
Photos are dated and misleading..shame on you.
