1. Finland 2. Norway 3. Germany 4. Spain 5. Portugal 6. UK 7. Sweden 8. Austria 9. Monaco 10. Belgium 11. Italy 12. Switzerland 13. The Netherlands 14. Luxembourg 15. Ireland (would've been much higher if she was on pitch) 16. Yugoslavia 17. France 18. Malta - Finland sent a really high quality song this year, as did Germany and Spain. This was certainly one of Spain's better entries and though there will always be a place in my heart for Massiel and Salome, Karina has a great voice and the song really stands out. Norway's entry was fresh-faced and adorable and it makes me smile every time I see or hear it. The Portuguese entry had a really good groove to it, wonderful voice and such a different Portuguese accent I've never heard before. Perhaps Portugal would be more successful with a song like that? Italy's song was so-so but boy could he sing! It brought the song to life. And Austria was about the same way for me. Monaco's winning song was one of my least favourite winning songs, but it's not terrible, and Severine has a strong voice. It just may have benefited from a change in arrangement (for my liking; obviously not for Eurovision as it won!). Sweden is quality as always, almost like a folk-ABBA, three years before the real thing would compete in the main contest. The UK's entry is strong with a great singer and a great melody, but the lyrics are kind of banal. Luxembourg was adorable but again, with banal lyrics like that, I'm probably not going to like the song too much (or at least, it won't have much longevity in my head). The Irish singer was just slightly off-pitch, maybe sharp? She has a nice voice, but the type of voice that needs to be right on pitch or you can tell immediately and it sounds like nails on a chalkboard. The song is great, though. Katja Ebstein appeared three times in Eurovision and got two third places and one second places. She deserved to win at least once, probably this time, since my top two don't seem to have as broad of an appeal. The Netherlands' entry took me awhile to latch onto, but it was a pleasant enough song. It's the same for Switzerland. Belgium was like that, too, but at least a bit more upbeat and I enjoyed the harmony between the two singers. I can't comment deeply on every entry but Yugoslavia was just forgettable, France put me to sleep, which must be in their transitional phase between the traditional chanson to the more modern interpretation of it and also regular pop. Meanwhile Malta actively irritates me. His singing isn't very good, I can't remember the melody, there isn't much charisma present and I can see why he didn't connect with audiences, and why he was last.
Thank you so much for doing this! As a 14 year old (Irish)at the time and so proud that the Contest was being held in Dublin, my favourite song was the German entry. Could you do more of these early Contests for us ‘oldies’? Most people seem to disregard anything prior to 2000 or even 2010. 🇮🇪☘️💚

"Tijd" is such a lovely song with a strong arrangement, deep and poetic lyrics and the lead singer Trudy van den Berg has a really beautiful voice. I'm so surprised you don't like it!
I'm glad you put Malta, Finland and Norway so high. I thought they were always underrated that year. It was such a strong year, but I would have given them all three either 4 or 5 points.

I love your videos but this ranking is weird! The Netherlands, Portugal, Italy & Switzerland are all fantastic masterpieces and you rank Luxembourg & Malta higher than them? Also UK 1971 is the most overrated entry ever, not even the performer herself liked it.
This time you’re really trying to annoy as many as possible??? The actual winner is a classic as are Spain Italy and Germany…..and of course Luxembourg⭐️
Clodagh had 6 songs in uk NF and the 1 song she disliked won, it was to be postal votes to decide the UK winner but postal workers went on strike so no postal votes of the public would get delivered to the BBC so the BBC put together juries around the UK,one in Cardiff, one in Leeds, one in Glasgow etc,I think about 10 cities made up of the public,I think if the strike hadn't happened another song would have won

I'd have to give it to Germany this time in terms of song quality. My favourite though is the one with the parasol. No points for Ireland's effort with the stage set design. Whosever bright idea that was wants to have a serious word with themselves. No points for Luxemburg either. Not the song, though that was a bit daft, '0' is for the two Luxembourg judges that gave practically everything 1 out of 5.
