Thanks for the video, I was able to get an EFI chip reader from china for like $8.....I used this and a little google foo and figured out how to dump the contents of the EFI chip and edit it, then refresh the chip on a early 2011 MacBook Pro that was EFI locked. I picked this up as parts only from a local pawn shop. Funny note that I was able to read the contents of the HD and figure out the name of the old owner via facebook and he supplied me with the OS password as well. Great little machine for $75!
I want to have a macbook, in that same way you did. But i am afraid the original owner have sold to someone else and then they decide to report as stolen. The second person have pawned, and in short story acquire a macbook that has a serial number reported as stolen or lost. I know Apple will not do nothing directly to me and will be able to set up my own iCloud update the mac an so on, but I am afraid someday some sherif knock my door, what do you think? I'm in the states.

Great video man! Do you think this method will work for any Macbook with EFI bios chip? And can you explain more about what are the tools and equipments required to perform this? I will very much appreciate your help. Thanks!
Can you do this with one of the clip-on IC holders, rather than having to desolder/resolder the whole chip? Also, are those matt boards that are popular with newer models a robust solution? I've not heard much about them!
Yeah, you can, but will probably have to inject voltage with a power supply, as the 3.3V rail pulls too much current to be powered by just the programmer. Don’t mess with the Matt boards, they are not needed and really shouldn’t be used (as they are replacing the SPI-ROM on the machine’s board).
@@dosdude1 Ah fair enough, Matt board was the route i went on my 2014 air, didn't have the equipmant to do a proper EFI re-write, might get around to doing it properly one day if i run into issues!
So after the efi is unlocked would the macbook locks itself again if you connect to the internet or go onto the apple app store? Lets say that the macbook is stolen and the owner reported it as such and the macbook's serial number is now blacklisted. Would the serial number embedded on the motherboard triggers another efi lock?

Thank you very very much!! It works!!! Aquellos que tengan problemas con la contraseña del EFI, usen este método. No hace falta desoldar ni lector EEPROM, solo una raspberry pi y cables. :)
Congrats! Apparently you can “hack” the EEPROM on an EFI intel machine using the Raspberry Pi GPIO ping and alligator clips, no soldering needed. :) Thanks!
DAMN good video!!! I liked and subscribed. A couple quick questions... 1. Is it possible to change the EEPROM's contents directly in the programming software, (instead of copying it to a hex editor)? and... 2. What brand and kind of flux do you use? Keep rockin'!
I got it off eBay... Just search for "TL866" on eBay, and look for one that comes with the adapters. The software used is included with the programmer.
Hi how to remove windows laptop firmware passwords only locate password in firmware , without changing serieal number, using hxd editor, please tell me. Any signs for password in windows laptop firmware.
This is great, thank you so much for sharing. I can now get “parts only” macs working again. Does anyone know if this works with TPM 2.0/T1/T2 Macs, or any TPM containing devices?
EFI, not BIOS, hehe. I would expect that it would have a similar design with there being some form of EEPROM on the board that you can flash using alligator clips and a raspberry pi. However, if it has a TPM 2.0 you may run into issues.
Yes, although it can be tricky. Some computers work better than others. I'm using an old Acer laptop (originally came with Vista!!) that works almost every time.
It should be relatively the same process as shown in this video, but the EEPROM may be slightly different and require a different adapter to work with a programmer.
dosdude1 I just ordered the mini pro l866a along with a Pomona clip as well as the female to female wiring. Although I’ve never used a clip before is there a certain adapter I may need in order to connect the clip to the mini pro? Thank you for your replies and quick responses it’s very much appreciated. I will be following the process you have in this video to remove the firmware password from my 2012 a1502 MacBook Pro
Yeah, I know you need the little plug adapter that allows the clip to go into the programmer. Usually the clip comes with that adapter (the one I got did).
good job ... it's obvious that this macbook is stolen the 13" 2012 isn't even sold for $170 not to mention that if the owner was the one who sold it it would be easier for him to unlock it through apple than just selling it for dirt cheap .

I contacted them, they did not act interested. I even walked it into their lobby - showing them their property tag...it may as well had been a hot potato, the pass-the-buck bureaucracy I was inundated with. Not at all, once EFI lock is removed and the OS is re-installed, the system will remain unlocked.

How to I come and repair my macbook pro 2012 15" Firmware issue ? I live in Brooklyn .
I bought a 2011 iMac with this problem. I can just change the whole board, right? They’re super cheap on eBay.
Yeah, if you want...

You can’t “edit” an EEPROM in place. Basically they support being read while working normally, or in dumping / entirely rewritten mode.
