Stanchion Trick = Constant relative bearing equals collision course. If the relative bearing is moving forward, they'll pass in front, if the relative bearing is moving aft, they'll pass behind. The coolest part of that is that it doesn't matter the angle or speed of the other boat, the relative bearing predicts everything. Are you an aircraft pilot by chance? Pilots use the same thing.
Not an aircraft pilot Arlon but we get many guests that are. It seems that many pilots trade in their air wings for sails. Thank you for commenting. S.
Your videos are a godsend because when I do get on a sailboat it won’t be as daunting as I will have some knowledge because of your help. Keep it up ✌️
Great advice. I needed reminded of my instructor's "Starboard stand-on, windward give-way" saying. Also, thanks for not resorting to putting Simon in a bikini for views. Well there's a picture I won't be able to get out of my head. Thanks and looking forward to next video!
Another good video Simon. I appreciate the professional approach you take to sailing your boat. You're exactly right, anyone can buy a boat with no knowledge of COLREGS and set out upon the seas. Would love to join your passage to RI, but my daughter graduates from college in the middle of those dates. Wife and I will be in USVI for a couple of weeks in March. If Britican happens to be in the neighborhood, would be happy to buy y'all lunch or dinner.
Hey Garrett. We'll be in St Martin until the end of April. We'd love to sail over to the BVI or USVI but we have Britican Experiences booked back to back until we head north. Perhaps you can visit us somewhere along the East coast?! Thank you for your comments and congratulations on your daughters graduation. S
Yes, we were too. There is no such thing as 'right of way,' only to avoid a collision. If you are not going to collide, however, there is the stand on and stand off boat. Surely you learned that in your Day Skipper?
I'd love to join you for the trip to RI, but the dates are when my boat is scheduled to be launched, and I can't delay that because the yard wants the boat out of their parking lot. Where in Rhode Island will you be and for how long? I'd love to say hi.
Hey Jeff - we're going to arrive mid-May. Perhaps we'll do a meet-up as we've had quite a few people asking to say 'hi'. It would be great to meet you. Best wishes with your launch. S.

No why did you have to mention Simon in a bikini! Now I have a mental image that I won't get rid of ever in my life.
Well...you've seen him in his underwear enough! Hehehehe. K.
Thanks for the comments Andrew :) K.
@@Sailingbritican Thats the problem, I immediately imagined him in a bikini. I'm scared for life now. 😝

@@Sailingbritican I expected you'd already have commitments but didn't want the opportunity to pass by without checking.

Good information and nice to see your subscriber count increasing.
Thank you! K.
Good video, congratulations on 30k subs.
Thank you Douwe! Look forward to seeing you back on the boat one of these days. K.
Great video Simon. Have you mentioned why you are sailing to Rhode Island this year and not a closer port? Inquiring minds
No we haven't mentioned it yet. We're still coming to terms with it. Coming soon. S.
Good video!
Thank you Johnboy ;)
