I'm 44, I remember listening to Rome (Have a take, don't Suck!) during my first "real job" when I was 22 yrs old....at lunch, in my car, running down my car battery. Jim Rome is a legend! Great interview Ed. His work ethic is inspiring!
Damn, I read your comment and thought "did I write it?" before seeing your name. I'm 48 now and I moved from Chicago to Phoenix at age 23 for a job. I was a huge Chicago sport radio fan and in those early internet days I'd listen to 670 the Score and AM 1000 via my desktop PC browser in my apartment, but while in the car while at lunch or driving somewhere for work, it was always the Jim Rome Show, in 1998-2000. Have a take, don't suck, if you suck, you will get run. LOL. Some of those shows had me gut busting with laughter. When I moved back to Chicago, at one point they tried putting an hour or so of the Rome show in between local shows, but it didn't work b/c in Chicago, esp. back then, nothing national would fly. Hell, it didn't even seem right to me listening to him while driving around Chicago, and I loved the show - it's hard to explain. Just a totally different culture here than out west.
@Jim Rome you are a pleasure to listen to! Please consider Ed’s advice and start talking more! We learn a lot from people who’s done and accomplished! You have a lot to offer us!! Much more than you give yourself credit!
Ed, i could feel the connection you had with Jim during this interview. I have listened to probably almost all of your podcasts at this point and this one really drew me in. You're incredible at this, thank you for sharing that gift with us. I loved this hour I spent with you guys.
Great job Ed. I have listened to Rome for years but my respect for him has increased 10x. I sold my Chiropractice office after 22 years to live the laptop lifestyle trading stocks. After listening to you 2, I will be reopening a chiro office as soon as the corona virus allows 100% because of this podcast. Thanks for the redirection. The grind of building a successful business and helping people is what gets me out of bed. Having all this free time is not what it seems. Happiness comes from the chase.
Dude, (and I say dude with high respect) this interview kicked ass! It grabbed hold of me. Powerful way to start my day. Thank you for having him on your show/channel. Please keep pushing him to move into the inspirational/motivational speaker space. He belongs there! 🙏🏻 Thank you for the work and service you provide Ed !
I love this! The comments about "hiding" in a job that may pay the bills, but does NOTHING toward dreams or otherwise, nailed me in the forehead. This is where I am now. I am figuring out what I really, really want. Thanks for sharing this.
Ed, this was a great interview! I have loved listening to Rome since the XTRA sports 690 days. I really admire how he can articulate his takes. Keep up your great guest list!
This message is perfect especially now because, we have rethink of what we want and get back in the workforce with guide on doing what needs ro be done.
I struggle with the notion of doing things you really don't want to do...just to be clear, I am not talking about things such as Meditation, exercise or taking care of responsibilities I am talking about things you have no interest in learning but they are essential for a successful business. I believe that there are some things that have to be delegated to people who are better at them. I have tried to force myself to do some things - but ended up hating every minute of it and felt that it shortened my life. I know it sounds dramatic, but it is true.
@@aligned4good it's a balance. There definitely are some things that can/need to be delegated in order for your business to grow. But every success entrepreneur, athlete, actor, etc all do things that they NEED to do every day and they hate doing it. But they do it anyway (example: Michael Jordan hitting that jump shot over and over and over again in practice, even though it was mundane. Tiger Woods practising that same 4 foot putt over and over and over again even though it was routine). That discipline allowed them to shine when the time came for them to step up when it counted.
@@aligned4good I can respect your feelings but as you said yourself, if these are things essential to the success of a business they need to be done. If you're in a position to get help and delegate, by all means do so. However, there's always going to be times where you don't want to do something, but have to. The key is to focus on why you do it, whether it be a successful business, your health, your relationships etc
As a reporter he never was my cup of tea, but after hearing the "real" Rome on your show I have a new appreciation for him. Great interview as always and yes, he needs to do more of these interviews in the future.
Ed!!!! are you kidding me!!!!! This was an awesome interview!!!!! Jim Rome literally saved my life. When I lost my job,I used to listen to him years ago. Jim Rome kept me laughing constantly, and his interviews are amazing. I had a rough two years back then. I was fortunate enough to meet Him at Tower Records,I spoke with him,and he signed my CD. He was so down to earth!!!!! Jim was personable and a class act. I absolutely love the Jungle, and it's so great to see two of my favorite people sitting there having an amazing conversation. Ed you step up to the plate and deliver EVERY TIME!!!!!!!! You're a master interviewer. Jim I wish you and your Family much Success. You inspired me and today I'm a Physical therapist, with a take that doesn't suck!!!!!!!! good night now!!!!!
Ed thank you so much for making this interview happen. Admire your genuine heart. Your intro always primes me to be in state. Much love to you and extreme blessings for your work!
EM...I'll get straight to it. Your guest Jim Rome...I dislike the MnF'r! and I stopped following many years ago ,until now. What happen first, I discovered something about myself....how much I've grown or at least moving in something positive. Your shows always has golden nuggets we take home and can apply. Thank you brother for sharing your gifts & talents. Blessings to you, family and staff....Shalom
Been listening to Rome since 1993. Absolutely loved this. Heard slot if these stories but it's great to hear him go a little bit deeper. Get him on again. Would love to see Rex Hudler on. I believe he would have a great message
Absolutely, one of the best sit down interviews I've listened to in a long time! Engaging, Genuine and filled full of insightful perspectives from man that is a trail blazer. I just subscribed and will make this a part of my daily rituals.. 51 yrs old, going through a major depression, self doubt and need to fill my thoughts full of positive energy.. Thanks Ed and Jim
Jim Rome was an innovator in the sports talk realm. Now there are a thousand Jim Rome "clones" on every sports network there is. And he's as sharp today as he was in 1990.
I grew up watching Jim Rome when he had his ESPN show that was his main impact on my life but it was really cool to get to learn some of the person and some of the trials and self-realizations that he had considering I'm at that same point in my life thanks for that interview. Boosh!
Thanks for this interview! I also have a journalism background but got inclined to doing WFG because I knew how difficult it is to do anything with journalism, specially when I came to the US in 2003 without even going to any college in this Country. And it was great to know something I suspected: his regret for what he did with Everett.
I smiled when I saw Jim Rome was your guest. Special treat for us as you've had many interesting people on. Awesome to see Romey on the other side of the interview. You were really dialed in to bring out some great insights. Thank you, Ed.
Wow. That was the BEST interview EVER. I've been listening to the pimp in the box for decades and this is the most enjoyable and informative piece on Van Smack I've ever seen. Anyone that's listened to Jim for as long as I have know he's a humble and hard working regular guy. Thanks for doing this Ed and I'll certainly be looking for more from you.
This is a very powerful self-help video. I will watch it many times. Lot of good information about success and achievement. In order to achieve success work hard diligently and consistently. Never give up and keep working hard at your craft. Be motivated, intense, and focused.
‘’It’s not up to you to know how long it’s going to take. You just put your head down and you go to war until you find out.’’ am I really the only one who related the quote with the current quarantine situation? Wise words from a wise man. Thanks for being a light for teens like me.

Great interview! Love Rome, found him in 2000 when I got out of the Military. His show gave me a good laugh and sports between college classes. Great outlet from the daily grind back then.
You are a motivational Character, person like me always thinking negetive about my life as i am still finding success. So your secret to never quitting is very inspirational to me. Thanks
This was awesome! I’ve been a big sports fan for so long. I’ve heard Jim Rome on his show a few times. But I never knew the back story. There was some great stuff on here. So helpful. Thank you Ed for sharing!! #Maxout

I came across the podcast searching for Rome’s podcast. Great interview and awesome back story I never knew of him. Looking forward to listening to more of your podcasts!
Love the content. Tons of lessons and knowledge there. Thanks for delivering again. Most profound takeaway; know where you're going and don't let go of your passion for the journey to get there. Each step along the journey gets you closer...
I’ve been off the #Maxout world for a while and honestly let myself believe I’ve put in the right #Grind. This interview choked me up, I got a dose of #Reality I’m 44 and have had what I would say minimal success. I’ve always wanted it, been told about my talent but truly NEVER gone all in. I’m truly moved by this video because it’s made me think about my time and WHY I’m thinking I’ll be ok & I still have time. I need to get “Psycho” like Ed talks about. I’ve wondered if I have what it takes at times because like I said I haven’t done it. Thanks @JimRome & @EdMylett I can say this gave me the slap in the face, what a wake up call that I needed!

One of your best interviews (guests do make the interview to a large agree though) . Self-awareness and intentionality are key, but this is also for a huge part tied to your WHY. I loved your drug addict analogy in an earlier podcast and while most might dismiss it as too extreme it's so darn true. Whenever someone gives me an excuse I always use the analogy of would you have done things the same if your son's life depended on it?! The truthful answer would be to stop making excuses and admit and accept you simply didn't care enough. But instead a boatload of other excuses and insults start to come up.
Not sure I really believe this serving stuff, but what most people don't realize is that to gain YOURSELF you really HAD TO MAKE OTHERS BETTER. Your own career literally depend(s)ed on it! I think this is the reason why your content stands out so much and is so impactful. It's straight talk with no fluff and 100% actionable. It's a culmination of a lifetime's experience of blood, sweat and a probably a LOT of frustration as well. As an European I knew nothing of your space and your content made me do a lot of research and watch and listen to a whole lot of others like ALW, HLM, PBD and even some clips from R. Thawley and while it's all true and good, your content stands out by far because it really HITS you. And I know your self-confident to know that's true, but humble enough to not brag about it.
Thank you for entering this space! Your content has helped and is helping shifting my identity. Hope it SERVES you as well!

I came across the podcast searching for Rome’s podcast. Great interview and awesome back story I never knew of him. Looking forward to listening to more of your podcasts!
I have a goal to be interviewed by you one day. Jim Rome is outstanding. I first heard him in Cali when I was in the Navy.
great advice man motivating people to success in life
Love the content. Tons of lessons and knowledge there. Thanks for delivering again. Most profound takeaway; know where you're going and don't let go of your passion for the journey to get there. Each step along the journey gets you closer...
Thank you Mike! God bless
So blessed to hear that it could fire you up brother!! You got this.... keep crushing it
