    Rob,
    “The best you can” is awesome and totally sufficient for us who are new to this camera. You are too humble and self deprecating. Anyone who vlogs shortly after dentist induced novocaine is real and connected to the everyday lay camera owner. Your videos have been inordinately helpful to me on my hikes photographing nature, and in particular mushrooms. I propose a series on “ settings and tips for”. : an indoor wedding reception (crash one and vlog to us😂) a nephew’s basketball game, indoor shots for the holidays, walking Main St in my hometown early morning/late at night, exterior Christmas display photos, I think you have a good 100 episodes ahead of you if you keep in mind that many of us are still learning, and practicing in site specific settings depending on our comfort level. We watch your videos and then practice one aspect to become more proficient. Keep pushing the limits of what the Olympus E-M10ii can offer while keeping in mind many of us are still discovering its capabilities. Best regards, Joan B

      Thanks, Joan. I've always wanted to crash a wedding after seeing that movie Wedding Crashers! I went to one earlier this year and thought it would be so easy to crash almost any wedding. @@RobTrek Thanks Rob. I cannot find it new, but just bought a good looking Wcon 2nd hand. My girl and me are used to wide angle shooting, we own two 9-18mm’s for our PEN-F’s but one has an error that practically makes it unusable. So having a 11mm option on the kitlens is a cheap way of replacing it.
      We have a 12mm too, but sometimes it is more versatile to have a zoom.

    I figured it out. I had to remove the cosmetic ring to expose the bayonet section of the lens. I couldn’t find anything in the lens manual, camera manual or Olympus site about the cosmetic ring. After I played around with it a few times by trying to twist the front of the lens I was finally successful. I discovered an Olympus discussion thread that mentioned the cosmetic ring afterwards.

    Great videos Rob, makes quite a difference eh? Would have been nice to have seen what it looked like mounted on the kit lens. does it add much length, bulk?, can i ask what your view on the kit lens is? do you think its worth getting? Thanks again for posting your videos Rob I'm learning lots about my Olympus cameras (have an original EM5 mk1, an OMD EM1 and a Pen EP5) and find I can apply a lot of your settings to them even though you are using the latest models. I think your videos are so helpful. I'm using the Sigma art lenses (19,30,and60) and am loving the results considering the price point that these sell for.

      Thanks! You can take a look at this review here: www.ephotozine.com/article/olympus-pen-converter-lenses-tested-16886 I like the kit lens for video and traveling light. If you can get it for less than $100, it's worth it. You didn't mention you have a wide angle, so the kit with this adapter would be a nice addition to your setup. Sorry, not familiar with those. I bought some kastar batteries and read some review by an engineer. He tested multiple brands on a lab professional tester and found the rated milliamps were much lower than stated, even lower than brand name batteries. Also, the cheap batteries tended to swell and get stuck in the camera. My kastars have swollen a bit and definitely don't last that long anymore.

      Thanks for your answer and offer. The software I am using is applying some sort of correction for this kind of distortion, so I am only interested in the differences between the kit lens and the kit lens together with the converter. • @RobTrek

      You have to take off a small beauty ring on the kit lens and the converter is a twist lock, similar to a lens hood.

    • @prose4ever
      @prose4ever 5 років тому

      I know that's the purpose (my lens did not come with a "Beauty Ring"), I mean does the front end of the wide angle lens convert have a filter thread for ND or Polarizing filters?
      I've got the 14-42mm, and I am curious whether to save for the 9-18mm with the 52mm filter thread, or just get the converter instead.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 років тому +2

      So sorry I misread your question. No filter threads. However, the front element is recessed, so a square cokin style filter can be set flat against the converter and then secured with rubber bands. I just tried it and not the most elegant solution, but it does hold. Similar to when people use welder helmet glass as nd filters for super long exposures.

      @@_news_of_the_world_ If you have a tripod and are comfortable with flash, then the 9mm will be much wider. Without flash, you can still get away with the 9mm at longer shutter speeds. I'll be on the lookout if one these pops up on the second hand market. I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to so naturally I turn to you. I've seen you pair the OMD EM 10 Mark II with the Lumix 25 mm f1,7 lens so I'm guessing you're aware that people are convinced that that lens suffers from Focus Shift. Now one of the ways to remedy this (rumored at least) is to set the Aperture of the camera manually, hens my question. Is there a way to set the Aperture on the OMD series manually? I don't mean to the turn the dial to A mode, I mean to force the camera to change aperture before taking the shot, because if I'm not mistaken the camera always focuses with the aperture fully opened and the later closes it to what you've set it. I hope I've managed to explain my question well enough.

      I don't know any way to do that where the aperture sticks. I tried programming the preview button that will close the aperture before taking the shot, but it then briefly opens up and closes down again when you hit the shutter. I'm actually not away of the focus shift issue. Will have to see for myself. I suppose you could program a preview button, set focus while in preview, then push the shutter button. Let me know if that solves the focus shift issue.

      I don't feel experienced enough to properly test the lens for focus shift, however this video - ua-cam.com/video/M_RQDgRp6qk/v-deo.html - is the source which people refer to when they comment on the 25 mm f1,7. I just recently bought the lens and simply want to know if there is a way to further improve its performance. In the linked the video the person shows that you can control the aperture of a Panasonic camera, which is why I was wondering if something can be done for the Olympus counterparts.
