The rapid release of new five star characters in the game makes it seem like we should also be getting more four star options, yet this hasn’t been the case. Adding more high quality four star characters like March 7th, Gallagher, and Moze would really benefit both the game and players accounts in the long term. Four star characters are essential because they provide valuable, niche roles that support various team compositions. More well rounded four stars would offer accessible ways for players to cover specific needs, like shields, debuffs, or AoE damage, without always relying on rare five star units. This approach also encourages flexibility in team building, especially for players who may not have every five star character.
This. After Aventurine's release, it has been abundantly clear that hoyo is hesitant in making new 4 stars to cover niches that they want to push. Like a 4-star follow up sustain for Feixiao teams if you didn't get aventurine or a 4 star superbreak erudition unit. It doesn't feel good, and it leaves 4 stars as a whole looking worse outside of a couple of exceptions.

What? Tingyun is a staple for all DPS that is Crit. They release 3 Non-Energy based units and suddenly "she's not usable on a lot of teams right now"? She's used on the rest of them.. I read something from somewhere that that hsr strength is gated behind 5star harmony characters I remember when boothill and all the new break characters came out and all the guide makers were screaming USE THEM WITH RUAN MEI AND GALLAGHER but if you didn't have either of them the characters were just pretty good. I feel like they gotta tone down harmony and make the characters themselves stand out more
That is pretty much true. During the era that Bronya Reigned as the strongest support because she enabled the strongest buffs for a hypercarry then came Ruan Mei where Double dps started making a rise and dot finally replaced Asta We then got Sparkle and so Sp negative characters like IL became stronger and then Robins release shook the meta again enabling taking Ruan mei's spot for Dual dps and creating a rise for Fua Then break Characters were made and immediately Ruan mei Had something to fall back on. If you consider Harmony Tb a real 5 Star then they kinda Are the face of Suprbreak.
@@Kris-w4w4h HMC, a free character, literally broke the game to the point that Superbreak is hated by almost every non-FF/BH/Rappa main. When considering properly a Break team with HMC but without RuanMei nor Gallagher/Lingsha will work stronger than a Break Team with Ruan Mei and Lingsha but without HMC.

I wasn't exactly putting one above the other I said Harmony Tb was the face of Superbreak and the creation of break teams granted a place Ruan mei could fall back to? You're also forgetting Boothill who doesn't need HMC as he has his own built in Break and would much rather have Ruan Mei over Hmc any day
I'm sorry but I have a lot of issues with this video: Dropping Herta a Tier because "if you're not in need of PF units, or you have Argenti or enough teams built you're not using Herta". Not even touching the fact that Herta is just straight up better than Argenti in PF, what other teams can deal with PF? Jade? Guess what, Herta is her best teammate, Himeko? Same thing alongside Jade. Rappa Superbreak is the only other comp that can clear PF at the same level, but you still need 2 halfs, and Rappa kinda needs certain weaknesses to work, so some rotations might be bad for her. Tingyun. I don't even think the example you gave, Boothill, is a great team for her. However, she has pmenty of teams. Jing Yuan is right there, but sure, he's not the best. Then what about Imbibitor, maybe even E2, Clara, Yunli, and Argenti who you literally just talked about. Or what about the countless low cycle clears she enables with DDD and energy shenanigans or giving Robin early ults? Moze is literally comparable and probably better than Topaz in Feixiao teams at E6, and Hunt March is such a good unit with how versatile she is, so I wouldn't say Topaz replaces them almost entirely, it's just that some people prefer playing 5 stars. Also Break March is really good, I don't think it's fair to just dismiss her. Also the fact that half of the good 4 stars from Genshin come from 1.0 is because they released broken characters on accident, and that's why in 4 entire years we've gotten so few good 4 stars. It's almost as if Bennett, Xiangling and the rest of 1.0 Genshin cast was the exception, not the norm, if anything, Star Rail has better 4 stars on average excluding 1.0 for both games, they overdid it with Genshin and probably underdid it in Star Rail, more likely than not because Genshin's initial cast was so good, which is why the 4 stars we've been getting in Star Rail lately have been pretty good. Having said that, I do wish we just got less 5 stars, 2 per patch every patch eventually ends up with 4 star characters running out of niches way faster than in Genshin. I do like that every 4 star they're adding recently is good, which is why I don't want more, I'd rather take quality over quantity, but I'd say the same about 5 stars. Less 5 stars means more places for 4 stars or other 5 stars to shine, a new character every 3 weeks is a little bit insane if you think about it.
If I've gotten lingsha then even Gallagher would've been benched but yeah aside from him I use only 5 stars by just having a super goated luck 14/17 50/50 wins for a 5 star Even if HSR decided on like 2 4 stars per major version (x.0 - x.8) it would be fine due to amount of pulls we get
The tragic fate of 4 stars in star rail. Being considered irrelevant even though they're perfectly capable of clearing content to this day. Luka, Asta, Sampo, Lynx, Guinafen, Xuyei, Moze, March 7th (hunt), Ghallachad, Herta, Hanya, Misha has been featured enough times that I gotta admit he is perfectly capable, Tingyun, and Pela are all units I see used in one way or another. Whether someone is using them to clear MOC, AS, or PF as an example for those who are struggling, or people who just like those characters and chose to build them to their max potential. Even characters like QQ are probably still decent when properly invested and with the right supports, although the RNG shit is annoying even with Sparkle. HSR is pretty forgiving. There are a few specific 5 stars that I would say are necessary for a strong account, but the rest are optional. Genshin also has a ton of great 4 stars, but the game is also notably older.
4 stars getting power crept by 5 stars is normal for gacha games. I just wish they would add more because half of them are just bad. Pela looking like the only one I might still be using a year from now.
Now maybe I am coping, but I did use Serval to clear moc 12 with 36 stars the first time I managed it (around firefly's release), and I still use Qingque occasionally when fighting several quantum weak enemies (Like the Cocolia Apocalyptic Shadow fight). I don't use these characters because I don't have some of the newer really strong units (Only one I am really missing is Acheron; I have Boothill, Firefly, Feixiao and Rappa) but I would say they definitely have their uses; even if a tad more niche than the rest.
I wouldn't use Genshin as a comparison, but I get where you were going with that lol. At least with Genshin you technically can still clear stuff with 4 stars, heck some teams even want those 4 stars to function but wer're not seeing much of that in HSR. Honestly Honkai Star Rail is literally just Honkai Impact 3rd with how they're handling their characters. I played Hi3rd for a few months and man I don't ever wanna go back there. It just always felt like every character I wanted to work on was so outdated so why would I waste mats on old characters when shiny new thing does better? You can farm free characters, but the game always wanted me to have multiple teams in different elements so I bailed cause it was too much. I actually thought to myself recently if I had to quit any of the gacha I play now, which one would it be? It might be HSR tbh lol. At least in the others I play, I know I can break whenever I want and I can still come back and keep up whatever content they throw at me.
It's the speciality vs general meta split and the problem is as more play styles become varied and more investment goes into them they just scale higher due to the curve of a character being more niche for a playstyle. Also let's not kid ourselves most 4 stars in Genshin aren't good the best teams only use a few, ie like 6 or 7 out of the entire bunch.

Moze is literally comparable and probably better than Topaz in Feixiao teams at E6, and Hunt March is such a good unit with how versatile she is, so I wouldn't say Topaz replaces them almost entirely, it's just that some people prefer playing 5 stars.
