BBC 1 Tonight closing credits 19/02/1979

Closing out this Monday night episode of Tonight is Valerie Singleton. This is followed by continuity for Tele-Journal and a quick rundown of Tuesday night's schedule on BBC 1 including Blake's Seven and Dallas. Some tape damage here.

The 'Tonight' theme tune is by Norrie Paramor. This was a jazzed-up version of the original which was more strings than brass. The original can be heard on ‘Norrie Paramor Remembers 40 Years Of BBC T.V. Themes’ released by BBC Records (REB 238) in 1976.

Tonight was broadcast from 1975 when I was 15 to 1979 when I was 19 so I am definitely old enough to remember it but I don’t, despite having a keen interest in current affairs and being an avid viewer of Newsnight when it began in 1980. Even hearing the theme tune did not bring anything back so a real repressed memory. I don’t think it can have been that bad! 😊
