What I loved about this tutorial was watching how you did not copy the inspiration photo, but went ahead and enlarged what you wanted and moved what you chose to move. I would have struggled to make everything exactly as they were in the photo . Yet, by not doing that, you have created a beautiful painting and made it your own. A very valuable lesson for me! Thank you. ❤ Shirley
Katie, you are a very talented artist & a very generous one to share all you do! I have learned in over 40+ years of painting that every artist that can paint beautifully can not always teach!! So true, but you definitely CAN!! Your lesson here was amazing & I learned as much on your video as I would have in person! Truly thankful for every bit of great information & brushwork!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! ❤❤❤ Blessings
I’ve been searching for a rose tutorial just like this, and FINALLY I FOUND IT! This is the most gorgeous painting I’ve ever seen- the color palette!!! THANK YOU FOR POSTING YOUR TALENT! (Shouted, lol)
Katie thank you for telling me to push thru the ugly stage. I was ready to give up but I’m so glad I didn’t!! It turned out surprisingly lovely and that really helped me realize imperfect can be beautiful. Helped me so much thank you!!
a beautiful time watching you paint. thank you for your video….this is my first time watching an acrylic painting…..i am a water colourist and wondered if I should include acrylic to learn too, I am enjoying my evening watching you paint from NZ…❤I do have a small set of acrylics that are wanting to burst out of their box 😅….thank you for the inspiration….will watch more of your videos first tho…..❤although I just may take you up on your $7 deal🌸
Thank you so much for this....I have never used acrylics before and I tried this tutorial and it's not great but it looks like flowers..a bit!!! I now realise I need to use more paint and less water and keep practicing. Thank you again ❤
OMG I can't believe I made this like I was not trusting the process but I did and you cannot believe how good the painting turned our thank you so so much fir this amazing video
A beautiful little painting but it was quite stressful for a beginner trying to follow and understand the process (how to successfully mix colours for example and create the general shapes). There seemed to be absolutely no time to get a handle on it. The colours of the paints tended to come out quite differently, too. Frustrated, I found I had to step away. If the video was 3/4 of an hour in length (not 3 hours, of course), I would have felt more supported. That is what a good teacher does!
A great video Katie, thank you and I'll give it a go. Quick question and apologies if you've answered it before - if I painted something from one of your video tutorials and the painting was good enough to sell (locally, not commercially/making prints etc), what's your policy about that? Is it OK to sell but with the credit on the back that it was painted with one of your tutorials? What about making cards from your tutorial paintings? Thanks for clarifying.
I believe she mixes her paint and saves the reference color made on the pallet that she uses while putting a small amount of color on another pallet incase when she is blending that color is used up she can make the same color again while checking to make sure it matches! This is only a guess! Lol
I loved this! Could you please tell me why, some artists sign their name then the date. I would think this might not be a great idea if they were to try to sell their work and it would show as a number of years ago. Just wondered. Thanks again for this tutorial!
Most people buy art as an investment and therefore a signature and date help the painting retain the value. Most artists will sign the front and sign and date on the back. Art is like wine, the older it is the more valuable, broadly speaking 😃
I have a question I think you could address in a future video(perhaps..). How can we paint anything (I'm mostly thinking of landscapes) that we actually look at and it's not a reference photo? I find it easy to paint using a reference photograph but when it comes to something that is actually in front of me I just can't.. Thanks!
Thank you Katie for being so generous in giving us all a wonderful opportunity to follow your tutorial. 🌟
Aw thank you. Your comment is so lovely ☺️ glad you enjoyed it!

??? Love it. But what is to your right that you periodically take your brush to?
Water? Or the palette to blend the colours
I believe she mixes her paint and saves the reference color made on the pallet that she uses while putting a small amount of color on another pallet incase when she is blending that color is used up she can make the same color again while checking to make sure it matches! This is only a guess! Lol
