excerpt from a letter I wrote to the band after hearing them in January 2017 in NYC: After your set at the Winterjazzfest my head was on fire and my eyes saw dragons everywhere. What you do with four instruments is so amazing that I am struggling for words to describe it. Yoon-jeong Heo plays the geomungo as a rhythm instrument, plucked bass (that reminds me of Jaco Pastorius) and a soloing instrument, sometimes all three at the same time. How she does this I don’t know. Jean Oh plays the guitar sometimes like a rock-and-roll instrument, sometimes like a cello. The geomungo’s and the guitar’s sound flow together like the rain. Your band has the most strikingly original music I have heard in about 6-7years. The sound you create is not world music for me; it is music that belongs to the world. One of my favorite musicians Jan Garbarek says the following: "You might say I live in a spiritual neighborhood which is scattered geographically around the world." You and your group live in the same neighborhood and I am so happy to be able to be part of it, even though I cannot play any instrument and my only connection to music is as a listener.
