No one in MLB could throw farther than Rocky Colavito even Roberto Clemente who threw with greater precision than anyone. Some minor leaguers have thrown farther.
@@nictyrpenou That is probably the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I am not directing this at you btw. I refuse to call it that. You can't call disabled people disabled because it's "offensive" so why is calling the disabled list offensive? It's the DL.
One of my favorite players EVER. He threw the nastiest cheese, best movement I ever saw. When it's started going bad for him I felt so bad for him. When he came back and started raking it was good to see.
I actually remember watching the highlights of that game when Ankiel came back as a CF for the Cardinals! I was quite impressed when ESPN actually said that he used to be a pitcher and even more impressed when he hit that big time home run.
I love the way you do these videos!!! How do you not have a million subscribers! When ever I get a notification for your video I immediately click it knowing it’s going to be a banger 🔥keep up the good work ma dude!
Rick is my favourite player of all time. I am British and went on holiday to America when I was a kid. I went to see the Braves Vs Nats and Rick Ankiel hit a grand slam. Amazing times.
I heard a story on this today. Ankiel told a bunch of what happened. After he went back to the outfield, he said he could throw a strike from 250' but not from 60'. What's being learned by sports science & medicine is that this is not mainly psychological, but neuromuscular. They've been wiring up athletes and musicians who have this happen. What they see is that certain muscles used in learned skills which have become automatic through extreme repetition, like pitching, suddenly begin misfiring, freezing, or over-activating. They've wired up golfers who've lost their games, and in different players they can see a lot of the same muscles misfiring. Anxiety can make it worse, but it's not just nerves. I'm glad Ankiel got to have a second life in baseball, I hope the sports medicine folks can keep learning more to help athletes who have this happen.
I say much respect for not giving up on the dream some of us call baseball. Baseball to me was always the most fun. I was truly more talented at football but I always enjoyed baseball much more. I think most of us who played always fantasized making it to the next level. There comes that time when you know that you have made it as far as you ever will. You hang on there as long as you can then progress backward. The hardest day is when you realize the next level is a dream that is not happening!
I remember everyone in Cardinal nation pretty much just giving up on him. It was almost like people wanted him to retire just so he wouldn’t have a mental breakdown. So when he started putting up massive offensive numbers in the minors it seemed like everyone was going, “Nooooo.... but, maybe he can do it.” Then, it seemed like we were just waiting for the perfect time for him to get a call up and it was pretty magical to see him back in the majors. When he hit that first home run back it was one of the very few times La Russa ever had a big smile. That should tell everyone how special it was.
I remember seeing Ankiel pitching, then he was gone. Then one random game on TV I saw Rick Ankiel again playing outfield!!! Then dude hit a home run. Started following him after that its a great story. Probably the best outfield arm in baseball history.
This is easily the best comeback story ever. I was following him as an up and coming pitcher. To me, he had one of the top 5 greatest arms from the outfield. So many outfield assists
definitely read The Phenomenon for more on his story. a lot of great info on his upbringing and his own headspace when his life started to fall apart around him

Yo! Dawson you should make a video about how the Chicago White Sox are a very underrated team and will be a very scary team later on in the future..Awesome Video by the way!
This happened to me when I was trying out for my middle school baseball team. I prayed everyday for a year that I would make that team so when i got the yips during tryouts I completely freaked out and faked an arm injury. I had no idea that it ever happened to anyone else at the time. I’m kept faking my arm injury and my parents took me to see doctors and to physical therapy for years and never lifted my arm up over my head if front of anyone. About 15 years later I found out about the yips and I confessed to my parents that I was faking the injury. I haven’t thrown a baseball since those tryouts
I dunno. I didn't play in the majors but in the competitive baseball I did play, I never heard a single word or clap from the crowd. It was ALLLLL blocked out somehow. But I didn't have 40k people screaming at me either lol.
@kilzad Birth yea, he said he’s old enough to control the anxiety and he is still able to pitch, I believe he is working with the cardinals in spring training right now

The Memphis Redbirds, at that time, were either leading in minor league attendance or ranked 2nd. I live just outside of Memphis and used to go to the AAA games regularly. Autozone Park is an exceptional stadium, built specifically for expansion in case MLB ever decided to put a major league team there. So he was still pitching in front of crowds of 10,000 people or more.
How and WTF to go from 19k's per 9innings to 17 BB in 4 innings? All you can say is that he aquired a very bad case of stage fright or maybe he saw the movie Bull Durham one too many times.

One of the best comeback stories ever. Good vid Dawson!
Use my beats for your "mixtapes"!
@contfeg kneeknew they make mixtapes as highlight reels. I make the background music for dawson and wanna do the same for them.
MLB Hi MLB
MLB hi MLB. OMG! I never expected you to be here.
Mlb who’s your favorite player
One of my favorite players of all time. His story is fantastic, and he may have had the best outfield throwing arm EVER.
True true. Kinda sad that Bo didn't give his all to baseball. He had some SERIOUS tools.
Jeff francouer has the best outfield arm
Made The Cut, I’m sorry to break it you, but the reason he stopped pitching was because he took ecstasy.
No one in MLB could throw farther than Rocky Colavito even Roberto Clemente who threw with greater precision than anyone. Some minor leaguers have thrown farther.
Made The Cut hi I love your compilations
Where you at shohei ohtani? Ohtani: “ the dL”
Nick Rampe He should be a hitter first. He is more valueable as a hitter.
Use as pitcher in extras.

I thought Dawson was a little older than that. None-the-less, I am very happy for him. Keep them videos coming.

And now he is a signature series in mlb the show 19
Derek Sarno and his hitting stats are insane.
which sucks at pitching

I loved watching him pitch back in the day. Awesome athlete. Really inspired me.
Who y’all got winning the NL Central?
1. Cubs 2. Cardinals 3. Brewers 4. Pirates 5. Reds
Dawson Wright
Cubs. The Cards may be hot, but not even their black magic can overthrow the lovable losers.
Deez nutz
Cubbies
If brewers hold up they will play stl in wild card
You should do a story on Dave Dravecky and J.R.Richard.
I agree with J.R! Not only did he have a cannon for an arm but he was a great hitter also!
Also, I’m going to make a video on this anyway but I’m curious. Who do you think should win AL MVP?
Dawson Wright
Mookie Betts. Few players ever have a great season and hit for the cycle.
Mookie betts but even tho I hate him Jose Ramirez should be considered as well
People are sleeping on J.D Martinez
1.Mookie 2. Jd martniez 3. Ramirez
Joe mauer
As a Cubs fan this kid is a fighter and glad he didn't stop.
Did u know about him before this video ?

Love the throwback intro also cubs will win the division keep up the good work
Struggling pitchers should do this more often. Imagine how many amazing throws they could make with a bit of practice.
This is a fun story. I never knew any of this, crazy.
Dawson Is AMAZING
he hit a game winning HR for the braves in the post season a few years ago
I love your videos
I love baseball storytime
This was worth the wait!
I like the intro but the low resolution is kind of buzz kill
We need a video on Greg Gibson the home plate umpire
I caught Rick as an old man with the nationals and he STILL had a cannon back then.
I was at a Memphis Redbirds. Game when was hitting the backstop a lot. I think he walked the first 6 batters before they pulled him.

He lost his control as a pitcher but before that he had an amazing curveball. Because of his pitching he had one of the better arms for an outfielder.
You should make one about David peralta
When Dawson makes a video!
I've seen many pitchers gradually lose "it"/control, but Ankiel is the only person I've seen lose it seemingly instantly and never get it back.
Oof
That Dude is Legit💯
Yeah
Do Dereck Rodriguez next.
You should do David Peraltas story from pitcher to McDonald’s worker to mlb star
Rick is a gamer, much respect. (Not video gamer, gamer like hes fuckin hard)
He became a excellent CF and could hit
Look up Adam Loewen. Went from MLB Pitcher to Outfielder to Pitcher.
Dawson the GOAT

ROBERTO CLEMENTE,BO JACKSON,VLAD,RICK ANKIEL

Great video. Interesting story.
Can you talk about ideas that can help the MLB be popular all around
How bout James jones former mariner. Switched from outfield to pitcher but didn’t do to well
His last name is 6 letters. Jersey number 66. I see you Ankiel...
Those beginning edits are cringe you can beat that lol
ankiel became better player as an outfielder unbelievable
Hey dawson, could you make a story about Edwin Richard Doheny?
