      It's generally a good rule to put in practice. Sometimes, there are sellers who can't even accomplish what you may consider the bare minimum and have lower standards than you and these are the people who should be called out/left a poor review, if possible.

    That white stuff reminds me of Brasso. I bought a used game, didn't clean it (my fault) and it wouldn't boot. Opened up the case and it had that tell-tale Brasso smell. They applied it but forgot to take it off! Cleaned it up with IPA and the game worked like a charm.

      Yeah its possible, but for ever single game to have it seems weird.. so maybe the store is doing it? Brasso really shouldnt have even been considered to be used on most of these carts, and the ones that maybe it could have been used didnt seem like they did anything with it but possibly wipe it off slightly and not actually polish anything.

I didn’t know who he was cause I don’t follow baseball and I was talking with Ken Griffey like we knew each other for years, he was the coolest dude and finally an employee came up to me and said “you know who that is” I’m like “no” and then he told me and I was like wow!! If you're friends with any repair channels it would be cool to see someone take a crack at fixing that Duck Hunt game (if you don't end up returning it). Maybe some vias are bad and a few jumper wires down to the pins would get it going again. I have seen some repairs like that before.

    Definitely be careful about buying NES games at bottom-of-the-barrel prices. That last six out of six that I bought don't even work no matter how well they are cleaned. A good rule of thumb is to go one step up as far as what you are willing to pay because a lot of the time, used goods are being sold cheaply for a reason that is undeclared by the seller.

    • @SoundToxin
      @SoundToxin 3 місяці тому +1

      Have you tried a fiberglass pen on the pins? Sometimes the oxidation is quite thick on these very old games. I even had a JP copy of Kirby Super Star for SFC that took 2 or 3 passes with a fiberglass pen before it booted up, I was worried I was taking off too much material at first, but got increasingly desperate until it finally worked. Have had good luck with NES, GB/GBC and GBA as well with the fiberglass pen. Or if there's water damage, sometimes a white vinegar bath can bring it back, but it depends on the severity. Not everything can be saved, but so far I have yet to run into something in that bad of shape.

    It's not so bad when the cartridge shells are dirty or the sticker is ripped, that can be salvaged but when the contacts are not only dirty but damaged due to some residue on it, it's a 50/50 on whether it will play or not. Duckhunt's contacts were ruined by residue and no amount of cleaning can restore it.

      They were not happy I made these videos apparently... but they told me they use bright boy on all the games... so as I suspected and mentioned in another comment... they go through with a metal polish without opening the cart thinking its doing something... when all they are doing is leaving a bunch of residue on the board, pins and shell... and very rarely is there a reason to have to use a brass polish on cart pins... it shouldn't be the standard cleaning procedure... id rather they just wipe the shells down real quick, blast through the carts with a 1up card or qtip with alcohol and test if they boot up... bare minimum. But they have a different procedure that I simply think is wrong... and instead of being pissed at me maybe take it as a learning experience or I guess just stick to what they think is the correct way... but whatever..

      @@Madlittlepixel it would seem they need to hire me then cause I would spend all day cleaning cartridges the right way. 😂
      Also I sorta understand why they may be a bit upset cause they are literally a small store. Heck I one day just found them out of the blue a couple years ago when I was around the area which is kinda out of the way in town (think more towards the county). But I also agree they simply need to take your valid criticisms to heart and adjust or not.

      @@UberStarFkr small or big, noone is above criticism. I placed an order with them and began filming a video fully with the intentions of showing how much better they are than DK Oldies as an example... Which was why I had the price comparisons ready.. which wound up being a somewhat pointless aspect of the original video I did as its focus turned more into how disgusting everything was.. was unfortunate and not how I had expected my experience to be.. I really went into it hoping to prop them up.. but ah well I guess.. now they are telling me they are going to pray for me 😂

      @@Madlittlepixel They can pray all they want. What you do with the stuff you buy is your business, if they're sore for the videos that paint a bad picture of them then that's on them. The videos were intended to make them look better than DK but they were caught not cleaning the carts properly and are just gonna have to eat their cake now. Great video!

    Yea that white residue definitely was somethin they used to clean the contacts. I'd say as long as all or most of those games were a decent amount under market value for online stores then I'd say the condition fit the price . Now I totally understand not wanting games In less than great condition but if u don't care like me and just want to play it then not bad at all .I got the games I grew up with in good condition but some games I've picked up that I didn't have I bought at a good price with some cosmetic issues simply to just get the game for the best price. I also buy some games that don't have a label at all since I can get a repro label and even with a repro label it's still worth more than what I payed for. And I know why duck hunt didn't work you didn't blow on the cartridge lol
