It is impossible to compare. With huge respect to Ildar. Ramey is the greatest Mefistofele to walk this earth. For thar reason, this production should have stayed untouched. For no one comes close to him.
I attended the SF Opera production with Ramey, and love Abdrazakov but Ramey was better. He always has had a wiry body and was more convincing physically plus his voice just had a deeper timbre. I had goose bumps when the choir sang. I have been to many operas, viewed hundreds of productions but at 74 my fondest memory was of that choir on that night.
Not bad.......saw Ramey and Jerome Hinds many years ago in original costuming with Faust rolling off the stage and the lights go black......much more effective ending........great piece of music.
Abdrazakov is just great. Vargas is wonderful. But the greatest of all is "Margherita". Patricia Racette provides an exceptional performance at the prison scene (1.16) Moving and touching as ...hell!
I was in the chorus for this 2013 production of Mefistofele with SF Opera. I met Sam Ramey backstage when he came to visit during this run of Mefistofele, and he's a wonderful, down-to-earth, genuinely decent guy. Everybody at the company loves him, and he *was* amazing as Mefistofele. True, Ramey had more power in the low range and performed this role many times... but he no longer performs. I very much prefer a live show experience over a DVD/Blu Ray. Ildar Abdrazakov is an excellent singer/performer, even if this role is a little bit on the low side for his voice. He was wonderful to work with - always positive, treated everyone well, and 10/10 I would be more than happy to work with him again. Their personalities are different of course, but I rate the human decency and talent of Abdrazakov no less highly than that of Samuel Ramey. Ildar's voice is just a little higher than Ramey's.
Ramey may have owned this role, but I think Abdrazakov does a fine job of carrying on the torch. Bravo!

I will however say that I think Abdrazakov did a more convincing job with Attila.
Абдразакову до Рейми как до луны. В том числе и внешне
Wonderful Production and Good Voices.

Saw this at the met many years ago..outstanding..what a powerful opera..
Sublime performance !!!!!! 👌🏻
0:05-0:50 For some reason I keep expecting the Burger King to show up.
An absolutely wonderful production.
Grazie bella
I am in this!!!!
They played this in Serbia on TV and I watched it... I'm amazed. Good job whatever your part was. My biggest respect.
Me too. Chorus, top balcony level, 1st Balcony on house right from center, right side. (The short one.)
@@maximumcat 😃👏👏👏👏👏👏
fun memories!
beautiful music. He learned from Pucinni, and learned well. I wish I could leave something of this quality as my legacy

Σινεφιλάσθενος racette is a screamer. I’ve seen her at the met five times. Her voice is not beautiful.
The production was awesome! A great moment in the Post-Kurt Adler era.
AWESOME!!
MARAVILLOSO
Sam Ramey is Mefistofele!!!
Nice...but for me, Ramey still owns the role to my eyes and ears...will have to warm up to the new generation though
Sorry. This role belongs to and has always belonged to Samuel Ramey. Watch the 1989 San Francisco production on DVD.

I agree entirely. However, Cesare Siepi was also pretty good in this role.
Ramey was great.....Treigle owned the role!!!
Adbrazakov is way better than Ramey. Sorry..
Sorry, I totally disagree.
What's the wrong with your ears and eyes?
